Chapter 64 Part 2: Out of Reach
The students around him couldn’t help but exclaim,
“What are you talking about?”
“What is this?”
“What’s going on?”
The grim-faced seniors of the student council asked everyone to wait for a moment and started whispering amongst themselves.
「User accessing the system for the first time…」
「Assessing User «Pyo Yeon-won»」
Name: Pyo Yeon-Won
Title: Under the protection of the ruler of the Netherworld, Unawakened, Master of Cooking
「New Awakener Registration…」
Pyo Yeon-won quickly understood what the status window meant, especially since he’s been surrounded by Hunters and Awakeners almost all his life.
At the same time, he also realized that he had unexpectedly entered inside a gate.
‘The surroundings looked the same, but I’m definitely inside a gate.’
He clenched his fists.
‘I’m inside the place I’ve only heard about in stories.’
It’s a cruel place where the difference between life and death can be decided in a matter of seconds, and where even the most agile of Hunters can lose their lives in a single moment of inattention— The Gate.
“Quiet, everyone, let’s just wait for a while until we fully grasp the situation!”
The senior member of the student council spoke up to calm down the crowd, and they slowly shut up.
In such a chaotic situation, a superior’s words had more power than usual.
Even if… They were also students.
The body of the Earth General Monster fell to the ground with a thud.
The first time I entered a gate, I had to work hard just to kill this guy, but now I didn’t even have to use my skill.
He’s still a big guy though, and there’s plenty of meat to go around, so this will help me get my meal for the day.
It had been three days since I entered this gate.
It was actually wider than I expected.
We’ve been traveling nonstop, but it still took us three days just to get near the university.
A little further on, and I could finally see Hankuk University.
“Uh……? What is that?”
The dense trees made it hard to see, but once we left the dense jungle area, the sky finally opened up.
It was strange….
I could see what looked like…
A black dome.
‘Judging by the location, that must be the university…?’
That thought flashed through our minds, and without even saying anything, we all rushed out towards it.
It wasn’t long before we got a closer look at the black dome.
It was shaped like a sphere, cut in half, and we couldn’t see inside at all.
“We can’t get inside!”
Jeong Sang-Jun shouted out loud.
He put his shield in front of him and slammed his body against the dome a few times, but it didn’t budge.
I tried firing my gun, but it was the same.
No, the bullets didn’t bounce off, they were sucked in as if they were being absorbed.
The black dome had a dark purple pattern around it, and only where I fired my bullet was there a swirling pattern like a whirlpool.
“It seems to absorb shock.”
Pyo Hye-won frowned, as if puzzled.
If it was simply deflected, it would be possible to break it with a stronger impact, but if it absorbed the force, things would be much more complicated.
Hyewon-Unnie floated up into the air and came back down.
“It completely surrounds the entire university, and I can’t see any gaps! There’s… No… Way… To… Get… Inside.”
We looked up at the giant black dome and wondered,
“Are we just going to have to wait and see?”
I loaded the special bullets.
‘We had to do something.’
A swarm of light suddenly gathered around Noir, the barrel of the gun shook a little, and uncontrollable energy was concentrated.
Before Hyewon-Unnie could even say anything in surprise,
‘Penetrating iron Shot.’
The description of this special bullet was like this.
‘It pierces through opponents with condensed power.’
If that’s the case, it might be able to penetrate this wall, too.
The moment the bullet pierced through the dome’s wall, the area around the bullet’s entry point briefly lifted to reveal the scene inside, but only for a brief moment.
The dome’s walls quickly recovered to reveal nothing but blackness again.
But for that brief moment, I was able to get a glimpse inside.
“Did you see the scene inside..?”
There was blood all over the ground.
I wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, but I knew things were definitely bad.
A chilling silence settled between us.
“Seoha-ya, can you shoot again?”
“There’s a cooldown. I can do it again in five minutes, but not simultaneously.”
“Did I just see… Correctly?”
No one answered.
I wanted to believe that it was monster blood, just ignoring the fact that there were bloody handprints all over the ground.
“I just heard some news.”
Jo Yeon-Ho was holding the radio and relayed the news to us.
“They said that there are at least five Hunter Aspirants and Two Active Hunters trapped inside.”
“Yes. They were preparing to take the Hunter test after completing the training at the academy.”
“Who are the two Active Hunters?”
“Ranger Park Young-Chan and Tanker Go Ha-Jin. Young-Chan is a Nightwalkers’ new recruit, and Go Ha-Jin is an independent hunter.”
At least it seems that the situation wasn’t completely helpless.
Just having someone who knows the gate a little bit is a big help.
A Nightwalker Ranger would be a pretty good hunter.
Though it’s unclear how much of that effectiveness a single Ranger can pull off with Go Ha-Jin as the tanker.
“Yeah… Yeon-Won’s talked to me a lot, so he should know the basics… I just… I just hope he stays put, and survive before we get to him…”
She tried to sound hopeful, but there was no strength in her voice.
“Let’s take a walk around first and shoot whenever we have time, it’ll help us check the situation inside.”
“Okay. Let’s do that.”
We took a break after we finally exhausted the maximum of six bullets per day.
After circling around and peeking in intermittently, we were able to come to a few conclusions.
“This is the boss monster’s habitat.”
