Wrapped In Golden Branch - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Do you think the Prince Consort is dead?
?
“Why are you here?” Li Kangning was surprised.
Pei Yizhi threw the bloated man back, and with a “boom,” the ground seemed to shake. “The guard station is nearby. I saw the familiar carriages parked outside the courtyard, so I came to take a look.” His burning eyes fell on the girl’s face, “Why did Miss come to this northern suburbs?” As soon as he finished speaking, he glanced at Gu Yanheng on the other side calmly, warning flashing in his eyes.
Gu Yanheng turned deaf to the word “Miss” in his mouth and nodded towards him with a warm smile instead.
Pei Yizhi gritted his teeth; this Gu San was everywhere.
Li Kangning ignored him and only ordered the guard: “Pull this manager down, and let someone carefully investigate what other messy things he did in the school.”
The guards immediately restrained the fat Qian Fengze.
Qian Fengze was frightened by the strong man who lifted him up effortlessly. Now, he even forgot to beg for mercy and was dragged down in a daze.
The atmosphere was quiet momentarily, and Li Kangning turned her gaze to Gu Yanheng with undisguised doubt.
“Young Master Gu is familiar with that manager? Why’d he want you to intercede for him?”
Gu Yanheng was slightly startled, and his heart soured. “I’m here for the first time today. I heard that there’s a vacancy for a teacher, so I only want to help. It’s not because I have any relationship with Manager Qian.” As soon as he entered the school, the girl at the back corner door attracted his attention, and he didn’t even notice that there were boys in the school.
Li Kangning lowered her eyes when she heard this, and her eyelashes trembled.
Gu Yanheng’s heart palpitated again. Pei Yizhi sneered; this Third Gu really thought this genuine Prince Consort was dead. He quickly calmed down and said, “Have you finished your work, Madam? Can I take you back home?” As he spoke, he stepped forward and took the girl’s slender hand, interlocking their fingers.
Seeing his mushy tone, Li Kangning was so embarra$sed that she glared at him angrily. Pei Yizhi turned sideways inadvertently, his tall and robust body blocking the girl tightly.
Li Kangning saw his little thoughts and felt amused. She couldn’t help laughing and said, “Okay, I’ll let you escort me back home.”
Gu Yanheng’s gentle and handsome eyebrows suddenly gained a hint of gloominess and then quickly calmed down. Only one carriage was prepared for this trip, so Li Kangning, Pei Lan, and Zhi Lan sat together while the guards accompanied them on the side.
If Pei Yizhi were allowed to squeeze into the carriage, Pei Lan Zhi Lan would have to follow on foot. Li Kangning asked him to follow on horseback. On the carriage, Zhi Lan chattered non-stop as usual. Pei Lan was as silent as usual, only answering a few words occasionally.
Li Kangning glanced at Pei Lan and was stunned for a moment. Pei Lan was indeed a little weird today. First, she didn’t want her to check Manager Qian’s matters and showed signs of discomfort. Then she rem*mbered the prophetic dream she had had a few months ago. In the dream, Zhi Lan put a small amount of aconite powder into her daily food for a small profit. She still kept Zhi Lan by her side for several reasons. First, Zhi Lan had served her closely for ten years. People were not plants, and she didn’t want to alienate Zhi Lan because of a dream. Second, although Zhi Lan acted rashly and spoke bluntly, she never had any bad intentions, and even the Imperial Guards didn’t find any problems with her. If she dreamed that it was Pei Lan who poisoned her, she might have killed her and driven her away, after all, Pei Lan had only been with her for less than two years.
Li Kangning silently lifted the carriage curtain and wanted to take a breath. “What’s wrong?” The clear and magnetic male voice was slightly hoarse. He slowly rode the imperially bestowed Ferghana horse alongside the Princess’s carriage.
Li Kangning pondered for a moment, “Nothing.” In the dream, this man died almost at the same time as her and was not much better than her. She looked up at him with a hint of pity in her eyes, and then she put down the curtain in her hand.
Pei Yizhi frowned with confusion in his dark eyes.
About three-quarters an hour later, the carriage stopped before the Princess’s mansion. When Li Kangning was about to step on the horse stool to get off the carriage, the strong man effortlessly picked her up.
“Ningning is too light. You should gain some weight.” The man whispered in her ear.
Li Kangning was speechless. Her figure was like her mother’s, and she was considered plump among the women nowadays, but this man asked her to gain weight.
Zhi Lan suddenly said: “Princess, it seems that Huai’an Marquis is there.”
Li Kangning raised her eyebrows and looked in the direction of her gaze— It was indeed Huai’an Marquis, standing there like a door god without moving. If she had not had a prophetic dream and reminded her father to be careful of Huo Ji, the new leader of the Eleuth tribe, her father would not have ordered the chief commander, Qiao Kaiyuan, to escort Huo Ji to the capital. This matter could be regarded as an indirect promotion to solve the mystery of Pei Yizhi’s life changes. Not far away, Huai’an marquis, who had been standing outside the Princess’s mansion for a whole day, finally waited for the person he wanted to see. But he hesitated at this moment and dared not step forward. Seeing that the Princess and his son had no intention of paying attention to him when they saw him, he felt mixed emotions, and his face turned pale. It was not until the young couple crossed the threshold and entered the mansion that Huai’an Marquis panicked.
“Your Highness! Yujin has realized his mistake. Princess, please let the Emperor release him!”
“Yizhi, I’m guilty toward you and your mother, but Yujin is still your brother. You…”
