When a Well-Raised Son Grows Up - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
The birds chirped, and sunlight sparkled through the window.
Today, as usual, the shop was closed.
Carlisle yawned loudly and jumped out of bed, while Abella remained asleep.
He stretched his hind legs and tilted his head. He grunted and moaned in pain. Despite the pain, he didn’t care.
Carlisle grabbed a small basket and hurried out of the house before Abella woke up.
On his day off, he decided to get a bunch of Abella’s favorite fruits.
However, Carlisle didn’t notice that someone was lurking and watching him near the house.
* * *
Carlisle scrambled up the mountain on his unsteady legs. His eyes lit up when he spotted a ripe blueberry bush, exclaiming, ‘Mommy’s favorite!’
Carlisle ran toward the blueberry bush, his tail wagging wildly. He barely approached when he detected a hint of sweetness.
Carlisle wrinkled his nose and picked the ripest blueberries from the bush, placing them in his basket.
His actions caused the small animals that had been gathering berries since early morning to hide in nearby trees and shiver, unaware of the culprit.
The animals were afraid they would become the wolf’s breakfast.
Carlisle, however, was preoccupied with Abella’s p*ssy which he had touched and fondled extensively the previous night.
He is confident that she will be okay. This behavior is typical for her, although it can still be concerning. He has been more careful since his first experience with blood.
Carlisle picked as many blueberries as possible and then lightly walked down the mountain, finding some ripe mushrooms along the way.
Abella had mentioned wanting to try roasted mushrooms, so he searched for them.
The big wolf’s front paws approached the mushrooms, its sharp claws threatening to dig into the flesh of its prey. Instead, they dug into the soil around the mushrooms.
Carlisle carefully shoveled the soil around the mushroom with a pop, pop, pop. He used his front paws to dig, which looked a little odd, but Carlisle didn’t mind as he pulled the mushrooms into his mouth and threw them into the basket.
Carlisle’s tail wagged as he looked at the basket of blueberries and mushrooms.
Making a blueberry pie, roasting mushrooms, and preparing a stew would make Abella happy when she woke up. He could hear her voice in his head, praising him.
Carlisle descended the mountain with ease, his left leg no longer causing discomfort.
He descended the mountain quickly and felt something was wrong near the hut.
Carlisle slowed his pace, holding the basket in his mouth, and looked around his surroundings carefully. He spotted a familiar figure. It was Esha.
“Damn, why is she here at this hour?” he muttered.
Carlisle grew impatient once more as he checked his surroundings. It seemed that Abella was still asleep, judging by the mood. Esha knocked a few more times as they ran, but there was no response from inside.
Carlisle checked the sun’s position and was relieved to see that it was not yet time for Abella to wake up. He had secretly fed her the Nephra herb the previous evening, and it had proven to be quite useful.
He fed her only to satisfy his lust, but this stroke of luck was unexpected.
“I need to return home before she wakes up.”
If she goes to Abella, he doesn’t know what she’ll say. Therefore, he had to get back home before she woke up.
Esha was about to knock again when she heard a thud behind her. She was unaware of Carlisle’s approach. Carlisle had approached without her noticing. She turned around to see a single cry coming from behind her.
“Huh……!”
Esha froze. A wolf, the size of a house, was running towards her.
Its scowling snout and bared fangs were frightening. The basket of blueberries in its mouth was a bit out of place, but it didn’t matter.
All that mattered was that the beast was coming.
Esha quickly regained her composure after shaking with fear. A moment ago, she was surprised, and now she glared at him with a familiar expression.
Are you the boy from back then?
Carlisle made a warning sound but did not confirm or deny it.
She checked the basket while he was biting. She was sure. that the wolf in front of her was Carlisle.
Esha regained her composure. She cleared her throat and looked at Carlisle disapprovingly.
“I expected that, but do you have no intention of leaving Abella’s side? Do you plan to harm Abella like you did to your people?”
At the mention of his people, Carlisle flinched, and his nose crinkled even more.
‘Once again, that stupid dog is talking nonsense to a human. A pathetic as$hole to the very end.’
He thought Redden was pathetic for talking nonsense to a human. He was irritated by the situation and Esha’s words, which he thought were stern.
Carlisle joked, but Esha warned that she would not stand by and let anything happen to Abella.
‘But how did she find him if she wasn’t looking?’Maybe she was lurking nearby, watching.
He realized she was more troublesome than he had thought. Carlisle sighed and looked at Esha. It seemed as though he was telling her to leave after she had spoken her mind.
He didn’t want to waste time arguing, so he remained in his non-human form. He didn’t want to wake Abella up by arguing with her.
“I heard it all. You weren’t even wolf pups to begin with.”
Esha’s next words made Carlisle pause. Carlisle dropped the basket from his mouth and stared at Esha fiercely, demanding she repeat herself. Esha stood her ground.
“Leo told me all about it, he just grew up for a while to heal his wounds…….”
But before she could finish, Carlisle interrupted her with a loud bark that drowned out the rest of Esha’s sentence.
Esha tightened her hands and muttered.
‘Not even funny.’
She looked at the basket of blueberries and mushrooms that Carlisle had packed for her and twisted her mouth.
“Did you think Abella was your mom for putting up with your stupidity for so long?”
Also, by the way, lucky or not,
Esha looked at the basket and felt frightened. Esha opened her mouth again as the door to the house swung open.
She said, ‘Get a grip. I’ve told you before, you’re not Abella’s real family.’
Esha’s eyes widened as the door opened, revealing Abella. She had already spoken before turning to Carlisle.
Abella appeared as the door swung open.
Abella looked between Esha and Carlisle, as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“Esha?”
Carlisle appeared as though he had been in the mountains all day. Meanwhile, Esha, her only friend, was verbally abusing him.
“Are you speaking disrespectfully to Carlisle at this moment?”
Abella was shocked by Esha’s loud outburst, which she heard even before she opened the door.
She remembered Carlisle, whom she had just rescued and who was now eager to prove himself so that she wouldn’t leave him behind.
-I wanted to prove I cared for her.
-I am always afraid of being abandoned by you, but you are always good to me, more than I deserve.
-We may not be related by blood, but we’re still really family, right? I shouldn’t have to worry about being abandoned, right?
That day, she wondered why Carlisle was suddenly filled with such fear, and it was caused by her only friend.
Disappointment showed on Abella’s face.
