- Chapter 26 - Heading to Enies Lobby for Justice
“Before dawn, someone must shed light on the darkness!”
“We, in the name of justice and honor, are here to protect ordinary citizens!”
A fist landed heavily on the chest, and blood splattered from the tiger’s mouth which stained the uniform. With a stern expression, the young man solemnly declared to the world, “We will march to Enies Lobby and rescue the fallen girls!”
“We defend honor with blood!”
Behind the young man, five male and female marines stood firmly, pounding their fists on their chests in unison.
The sunlight cast a delicate golden glow on the six young marines, making them appear sacred and dignified.
The news media reporters were excited, and rapidly clicked their camera shutters to capture this scene.
The new generation of marines was determined to march to Enies Lobby to bring justice to the innocent people who had been enslaved.
These reporters knew that this news would undoubtedly make tomorrow’s front page headlines, leaving the world astonished.
After obtaining the desired news material, the reporters scattered.
Yang Ming handed over dozens of captured Fish-Man pirates to the local marines stationed there. During this process, he took a moment to check the system’s message.
“Ding!”
“Congratulations to the host for quoting a classic line from Genshin Impact, granting one lottery chance. Would you like to activate the roulette wheel?”
A familiar-looking lottery wheel appeared before Yang Ming.
The prizes on the roulette wheel were divided into several categories: character summons, artifacts, items, talent skills, and skins.
Character Summons: Tartaglia, Diluc, Klee, Venti, Mona.
Artifacts: Flower of Life, Plume of Death, Sands of Eon, Goblet of Eonothem, Circlet of Logos.
Items: Vision, Anemoculus Resonance Stone, Portable Anchor.
Talent Skills: Swordsmanship of the West Wind, Gale Blade, Windborne Bard, Soaring Thunder.
Skins: Dream of the Sea, Flickering Candlelight, Rosy Waltz.
?Witch’s Ever-Burning Feather?: One of the Witch artifact sets. (1/4)
2-Piece Set Effect: Increases Pyro damage bonus by 15%.
4-Piece Set Effect: Increases Overloaded and Burning damage by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt damage by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases 2-Piece Set effects by 50% for 10 seconds. This effect can be triggered once every 3 seconds, up to 3 times.
A fiery red feather, like a burning flame, fell into Yang Ming’s hand and quickly merged into his body.
In the Teyvat continent, there was a legend about the Witch’s Ever-Burning Feather:
“A fiery red bird feather that burns endlessly. No matter how long it burns, it never extinguishes. Because she chose the path of hellfire, the path she walked left behind nothing but ashes.”
This time, Yang Ming was venturing to Enies Lobby, a journey akin to this legend. Even though he had a noble excuse, once he marched on Enies Lobby, it would damage the reputation of the World Government.
The consequences and costs of such an action were unimaginable and could even result in Yang Ming losing his status as a marine.
However, Yang Ming had made this decision without hesitation. It was akin to walking the path of hellfire, leading to an unpredictable darkness ahead.
“Somebody must burn away all the pain to bring about new hope.”
Yang Ming clenched his fists and declared in his heart.
Their hands shackled as they handed over the Fish-Man pirates to the local marines. Many of whom held higher ranks than Yang Ming’s team, they received respectful salutes.
Even though protocol didn’t require it, these marines had heard about Yang Ming’s previous actions, and anyone with a sense of justice couldn’t help but hold him in high regard.
The leader of the group, a lieutenant commander, watched as Yang Ming’s team gradually walked away and muttered to himself:
“Whether you can rescue the fallen girls or not, I will use all my connections to ensure that you won’t be questioned by the World Government at Marine Headquarters.”
“But it’s not just you; we all defend honor with our blood!”
Yang Ming’s words about justice and honor would spread like dandelion seeds over time, sowing the hearts of marines worldwide.
One day, this hidden undercurrent would eventually form a force that would astonish the world.
Before Yang Ming’s group had gone far, Iceberg arrived with a group of his trusted aides.
If it weren’t for Iceberg holding a beautifully crafted box in his hands, Smoker and the others would have thought he was intentionally causing trouble.
Iceberg forced a faint smile onto his face, despite the previous friction and unpleasantness between the two sides. Yang Ming’s resolute decision to go to Enies Lobby to save the fallen girls had deeply impressed this future mayor of the Capital of Seven Waters.
He slowly opened the box, revealing a Devil Fruit and a ship charter inside, saying, “Honorable Marines, these two gifts are not only a humble offering to make amends for what happened earlier but also to support your just cause.”
Iceberg’s generosity was truly beyond measure!
In the black market, Devil Fruits had a baseline price of one hundred million Berries. Rare mythical zoan-type Devil Fruits or natural-element Devil Fruits could fetch prices in the tens of billions.
The ship charter, while not as valuable as the Devil Fruit, was still worth tens of millions of Berries!
Yang Ming accepted the box and looked at Iceberg with a half-smile, asking, “I assume you didn’t offer such precious gifts for just these reasons, did you?”
Iceberg looked somewhat surprised at the young man before him, not expecting him to be so astute.
He didn’t intend to reveal his true intentions and leaned closer to Yang Ming, whispering, “If possible, could you deal with that CP9 agent a bit harsher? He’s been occupying our company’s dock and hasn’t paid any fees.”
Upon hearing this, Yang Ming chuckled.
In reality, Iceberg was probably worried that the CP9 agent might hold a grudge against Tom’s Workers, right?
But some things were better left unsaid.
After bidding farewell to Iceberg, Yang Ming’s group found the three-masted ship mentioned in the charter at the dock.
Once the six of them boarded the ship, Yang Ming placed the Devil Fruit on the table and looked at his five comrades, saying, “I don’t intend to consume this Devil Fruit. Feel free to take it if any of you need it.”
Smoker had already consumed the Smoke-Smoke Fruit and declined.
The other four looked at each other and hesitated for a moment. Finally, Tashigi spoke up, “Yang Ming, could you give this Devil Fruit to Tashigi?”
Yang Ming handed the Devil Fruit to Tashigi without hesitation, and this generous act moved her deeply.
Unlike most women, Tashigi was a woman of few words. She simply looked at Yang Ming with gratitude in her eyes.
Marines knew that you only needed to take one bite of a Devil Fruit to gain its power, and the taste was far from pleasant. Tashigi naturally didn’t want to take more than necessary, so she took a small bite.
Closing her eyes to quell the nausea, she also focused on feeling the power bestowed by the Devil Fruit.
In the next moment, Tashigi’s beautiful eyes snapped open. She raised her hand, and black iron pillars shot out one by one which formed a prison.
“A Jail-Jail Fruit ability?”
“It’s surprisingly suitable for Tashigi.”
Amid the envious gazes of the other five, Tashigi suddenly embraced Yang Ming.
Then, Yang Ming felt a fleeting wetness on his lips, accompanied by Tashigi’s magnetic voice, “Thank you, my little man.”
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
As the three-masted ship carrying six justice-minded marines set sail for Enies Lobby, news birds flew to various parts of the world, spreading the latest news.
Enies Lobby.
This island was located in the first half of the Grand Line.
It housed the World Government’s direct judiciary, known as the court. However, in reality, it operated solely based on the World Government’s will. Anyone sent to Enies Lobby was already deemed a criminal, and in its 800-year history, no innocent verdict had ever been issued.
Prisoners sent to Enies Lobby were all considered to have no chance of returning. After passing through the desolate courts, they would reach a massive cold steel gate known as the Gate of Justice, symbolizing the World Government’s absolute justice.
No one who passed through the Gate of Justice at sea ever came back alive.
Because once you passed through that gate, there were only two destinations. One was Marine Headquarters, the main fighting force of the World Government’s Marines, and the other was Impel Down, a deep-sea maximum-security prison notorious for its torture chambers and death row inmates.
In the Tower of Justice, inside the office of the CP9 chief, a seductive melody could be heard.
A well-dressed CP9 agent stood outside the office, holding a newspaper and looking extremely uncomfortable.
“Is entering like this going to get me killed by the chief?”
Putting self-preservation first, the agent knocked on the door.
“Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock!”
The sounds from inside the office abruptly stopped, followed by the rustling of someone dressing.
Spandam with a furious expression, opened the door and glared at the agent, who seemed to realize they had done something wrong. Spandam said coldly, “You better give me a reason, or you won’t need to come back to work tomorrow.”
With a glimpse from the corner of his eye at the rather risqué scene inside, the agent cleared his throat and handed over the newspaper.
“Report, Chief, something big has happened!”
Spandam questioned, “What’s so urgent? Why are you so panicked?”
Spandam rolled his eyes and quickly scanned the newspaper. He was shocked and dropped the paper to the ground right in front of Yang Ming and his team’s faces, with the headline written in bold black letters.
“Justice in Action: Marines Head to Enies Lobby!”
Under this headline, the article detailed the heinous deeds of Enies Lobby throughout its history, as well as a series of misconducts during Spandam’s tenure as the CP9 chief.
Spandam’s face twisted in anger, and he crumpled the newspaper into a ball, exclaiming, “Get Rob Lucci here immediately!”
“I command him to kill these six Marines!”
