Chapter 47
* * *
And so, a day passed.
Ishael continued to go to work with the spell bottle cradled in her arms.
As an apprentice magician who had just started at the Tower of Matap, she was in charge of cleaning duties.
Unfortunately, Ishael’s fingertips were not very skilled.
Crash!
The flask she was cleaning shattered into pieces.
“Why are you like this, seriously?”
“…Ugh, how pathetic.”
“I’m such a fool for believing in that. Let’s just focus on studying magic spells.”
She continued to act foolishly throughout the day…
“Magic spell!”
She opened her eyes wide and approached a magician who was studying magic spells.
“Magic spell, you’re not supposed to write it like that!”
“Huh? Huh?”
“Here, you’re supposed to use ‘b,’ not ‘p’!”
Everyone was surprised by her appearance, as if a god had spoken, and quickly wrote down the correct letters.
And true to her words, the magic spell began to work.
Ishael smiled with satisfaction and reached into her chest pocket, taking out the spell bottle she had put there.
And so, three days passed.
Gradually, the magicians began to gather around Ishael.
She was definitely a genius when it came to magic spells.
But she never revealed the interpretation of the most important spell.
Her behavior sparked intense curiosity.
“Could it really be thanks to that spell bottle?”
Moreover, Ishael was so trusting of people.
“Yes…”
She looked at the people and rolled her eyes, as if to say something.
“The truth is, do you know about the small room in the Tower of Matap?”
“If you say so, then I don’t know.”
“Why don’t you ask the Duke or Lord Claude?”
Ishael hesitated and said, “The room I mentioned is an absolute secret.”
“Huh? Is there a secret room in the Tower of Matap?”
The highest-ranking magician passed by and said, “If you’re talking about ‘Alfred’s Room,’ it must be a secret.”
Ishael’s eyes widened.
“Huh? How did you know?”
The magicians exchanged glances at her words.
They, too, knew about Alfred’s Room.
Several hundred years ago.
Alfred Saboia, a genius in magical studies, recruited talented magicians and created the Tower of Matap.
He built a room in the Tower of Matap where he and the talented magicians stored their great magical artifacts.
After Alfred’s death, the room was sealed off, preventing anyone from entering.
Once every hundred years or so, there were legends of those who entered Alfred’s Room and suddenly gained magical powers.
And now, Ishael claimed to have actually entered Alfred’s Room!
“Did that room really exist?”
“Yes! By chance, I went in on the day there was a bomb threat. It’s still amazing to me.”
Ishael said with her face buried in her hands, looking disappointed.
“Oh, I wish I could go in again…”
* * *
How on earth did an ignorant 1st Circle magician like her manage to enter Alfred’s Room?
Ada looked at Ishael with a suspicious gaze.
The reason the terrorist group “Crimson Castle” attacked the Tower of Matap was one.
To kill the skilled magicians of the Tower of Matap on the surface.
But their actual goal was the precious magical artifacts stored within the Tower of Matap. They planned to plunder or smuggle them out.
In particular, one of their major objectives was to eliminate the items hidden in Alfred’s Room.
Unfortunately, Alfred’s Room could only be opened under certain conditions.
This fact was revealed by Marriott.
“Oh? Then if we set up a bomb, everything will explode. Just blow it all up.”
…However, to their dismay, Ishael’s actions led to the failure of the bomb attack.
“But it turns out, Ishael’s contribution was all thanks to Alfred’s Room.”
Ada followed Ishael’s footsteps throughout her work, constantly trailing behind her.
Her efforts paid off.
After several days, as frustrations grew due to repeated failures.
Ishael left a small note on his desk.
[A spell bottle that brings friendship!]
[I’ll bring it today.]
[I want to become close with Lord Claude?]
Ada clenched the note in his hand and smiled with satisfaction.
“Finally, is today the day we enter Alfred’s Room?”
On that day, Ishael wandered around the vicinity of the Tower of Matap, using the excuse of going home from work.
It was evening, when the magicians had all finished work.
She reached the end of the corridor on the 10th floor of the Tower of Matap.
In the empty corridor, Ishael muttered words that sounded like an incantation.
At first, Ada wondered what she was saying.
But as soon as Ishael finished speaking, a small door appeared there!
Ada’s eyes widened as he looked at the suddenly opened door.
He wanted to achieve a proper performance and become an even greater dark magician.
If he could enter Alfred’s Room and steal the magical artifacts, his life would turn around.
Of course, there were risks involved in infiltrating Alfred’s Room.
But his opponent was Ishael, a 1st Circle magician.
All she was good at was spellcasting.
Furthermore, spellcasting had a critical weakness of taking a long time to activate.
Thinking about the dagger hidden in her bosom, he smirked.
“If I provoke her, a quick stab should do.”
Ada confidently stepped inside without hesitation.
One side of the vast wall was filled with various spell bottles.
“Hmm…”
Even after looking around, Ishael was nowhere to be found.
Ada wondered if she was startled, as if hearing the sound of his footsteps, she seemed to have hidden herself inside.
“Well, I came here to steal spell bottles too.”
He couldn’t afford to appear arrogant in front of others.
He laughed ominously.
“Thanks to this spell bottle, I was able to prevent the bomb attack, that’s right.”
If he could take a few of these spell bottles, how much would Marriott appreciate him?
With a bright future shimmering before him, he reached out his hand towards the spell bottles.
Creak!
At that moment, a voice echoed loudly in Ada’s mind.
“If I just get my hands on this spell bottle, the terrorist attack will succeed.”
Startled, Ada looked around.
“What, what is this!”
Ishael revealed herself from a side door, wearing a devilish smile.
“What’s the matter? Are you a terrorist?”
Ada looked at her in bewilderment.
“W-What are you talking about?”
“You came here because you wanted to know the spell to disarm the terrorist attack, right?”
“Wha-That’s not true!”
But at the same time, the voice in his mind resounded once again.
“How did you know?”
Startled, he looked around.
Once again, a voice flowed from his mind beyond his lips.
“I shouldn’t have revealed that I’m a member of the terrorist group ‘Crimson Castle’!”
“Well, aren’t you an amusing human? It flows so smoothly, doesn’t it? Just let it out.”
Ada looked at the spell bottle that accidentally stuck to his hand in astonishment.
“W-What is this? This spell bottle that I came to steal… Is it a wicked spell?”
“Yes, it seems you’ve fallen victim to a very wicked spell.”
He opened his eyes wide and removed his hand from the spell bottle.
Fortunately for him, the spell bottle turned into ashes and fell to the floor.
With a mischievous expression, Ada drew the dagger from his chest.
“Now that you’ve heard all of this, I can’t let you leave alive.”
“Huh? Is that so?”
He whispered slowly, pointing the knife at Ishael’s throat.
“Yes. I’ll kill you without pain.”
Just as Ada was about to smirk and slit Ishael’s throat.
In an instant, when the blade flashed and emitted a light.
At that moment, Ishael’s head didn’t fly away…
“Huh?”
…It didn’t happen.
Instead, a dazzling light enveloped Ada’s entire body.
Ada stood rigid like a log, clutching the knife in his hand.
“W-What is this!”
From his stiffened back, a grumbling voice could be heard.
“What the hell is this?”
Suddenly, the door creaked as if it opened.
Outside the door, Helic and Duke Saboia stood with stern expressions.
“We should arrest him as a suspect.”
“Your Grace! No, Lord of the Tower of Matap!”
Ada’s body was frozen, but his mouth was open.
He began to complain as if feeling wronged.
“I’m innocent! I only stopped the magician who planned to steal the spell bottle.”
“What do you mean?”
“That woman said she wanted to get close to Lord Claude and steal the friendship bottle! So I came to deal with her.”
Ada, too, hadn’t entered with the intention of committing a stupid theft.
He was blinded by greed, but he had at least prepared some self-defense measures.
He took out a crumpled note from his pocket as evidence.
[A spell bottle that brings friendship!]
[I’ll bring it today.]
[I want to become close with Lord Claude?]
Ishael’s handwriting was clear.
Pointing to the heart drawn on the note, Ada blurted out his words.
“She did this as a married woman! So I came to exact proper punishment!”
When Ishael remained silent, Ada grabbed her chin with confidence.
“Why are you allowing an apprentice like me to be insulted like this?”
Helic furrowed his eyebrows and questioned.
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Huh? Nonsense? Is there anything wrong with what I said?”
“Plenty, flaws.”
Ishael laughed spitefully.
From the pile of ashes, she took out the last remaining note.
