My Dream is to Get My Own House - Chapter 1
“Let’s break up.”
My boyfriend, Pedro, dropped the fork he was holding and looked bewildered.
“What? You’re talking about that in a bakery?”
True to his words, this was a cheap bakery in front of a children’s academy.
My boyfriend of five years had brought me to this shabby place, saying, “Since you gave me ten million gold, today, I’ll treat you for the first time!”
It was quite a rundown place for a restaurant.
“Are you really curious about the reason?”
“Yes, I am curious.”
I looked at Pedro from head to toe.
He has slicked-back hair neatly styled with pomade and was wearing a flashy watch.
He even wore a tailor-made suit that fit his physique perfectly, presenting a neat and handsome appearance.
‘The catch is that he was all dressed up using the money I gave.’
What about me?
I have a messy bun that covered my entire face, wore old-fashioned glasses, and had worn-out sleeves.
Being aware of all these facts, I suddenly felt a loss of confidence.
“I don’t want to tell you the reason. Let’s just break up.”
As I tried to get up, Pedro looked at me in disbelief.
“Why are you suddenly acting like this? Oh, I see. Is it because of jealousy?”
Is he crazy?
Well, I’ve been clinging to him all this time, asking him to date me while giving him money.
I guess he could have misunderstood.
“Do you really want to hear the reason why I want to break up?”
Pedro scoffed and scratched his chin.
“Sure, it must be just a trivial jealousy thing, but I’ll listen.”
“Then.”
I put my hand in my chest pocket and pressed the recording button of my recording device.
Following that, in a monotonous and fast tone, I spoke.
“First, you’re too promiscuous. People like you are called crazy bastards obsessed with women.”
He retorted as if he was taken aback.
“In life, you might occasionally get distracted. If you were good, would I have been unfaithful?”
I would have been angry under normal circumstances.
But I’ve been immune to such remarks for a long time.
I just raised the corners of my mouth, thinking about the recording device that is inside my pocket.
“Okay, I think I already have the evidence that you cheated.”
Are you ready for the dissing to begin now?
“Second, you’re too arrogant. You’re nothing more than a third-circle magician, but you act as if you’re an archmage when you’re just a small fry. Know your place.”
Pedro responded angrily to the sudden onslaught.
“…What? You’re just a first-circle magician, aren’t you? And even if I’m a third-circle magician, I’m about to receive a noble title.”
“Oh, really? Then who wrote the paper you submitted to receive a noble title?”
To receive a noble title as a magician of the third-circle or higher, one had to submit a paper proving their magical and intellectual abilities.
But Pedro had no knowledge of magic whatsoever.
So, I, who had specialized knowledge in magic, wrote his paper for him.
“That’s… It’s you.”
“And I’m not done yet. Third, you’re an expert at swindling money from me. A leech sucks less blood than you.”
Pedro’s face turned red and blue. I calmly continued speaking.
“Fourth, you actually have bad breath. Fifth, you’re so unlucky. Sixth, you have a talent for making people angry. Seventh, you’re too selfish and think only of yourself. Eighth, it’s ridiculous that you try to judge other people’s appearances while pretending to be the best-looking person in the world. You’re not even close to that. And ninth…”
Pedro’s eyes gradually turned dull.
“…Next, four hundred ninety-nine. You resemble a crow. A well-dressed crow. Five hundred, I just dislike you. From the top of your head to the tip of your toes, you’re nothing special.”
Pedro, holding onto the fork as if his soul had left his body, trembled.
“Ha! Really unbelievable. Have you gone mad? Crazy? Why is someone who was timid and gentle all of a sudden running wild? Did you eat something wrong?”
“I am perfectly normal.”
“Then why on earth are you acting like someone who has come back from the dead?”
I stared at him intently with crossed legs and tilted my head.
Yes, it may be hard to believe, but he was right.
I died recently and came back to life.
To be precise, this is my third life.
* * *
I was a foolish pushover who gave money to my family and lover.
As a fallen noble, my fate was predetermined from the beginning.
Living as a money-making machine between my authoritative father, extravagant mother, and beautiful younger sister.
“Sis, can you give me some money? I need it to buy a dress.”
“Y, yeah! Here…”
Me, with my bushy hair messily hanging down and dirty glasses that my eyes can’t be seen.
On the other hand, my younger sister, Soldika, is extremely beautiful.
She licked her lips as if pitifully looking at me.
“Sis, clean your glasses and take care of yourself. So, Pedro is…”
“…Thank you for caring.”
Despite me being the one giving money, the sight of her wiping sweat from her forehead and trailing off in her speech was almost pitiful.
My lover, Pedro, whom I relied on as my only support, was no better.
“Ishael, you’re really ugly.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t you need to lose weight? Why did you get so fat?”
Him brazenly having an affair with numerous women was just a bonus.
Of course, even during his escapades, the money for his food and lodging came from own pockets.
My family was no different.
They urged me not to break up with Pedro, saying that no one else would take me.
Meanwhile, I diligently saved every penny.
Even though I knew that fact, I couldn’t say a single word like a fool.
I just suffered from anger issues and died from heart failure.
And at that moment.
Not only did memories of my second life, before my regression, resurface, but also memories of my first life.
My first life, or rather, before I was reincarnated as Ishael.
When I lived in South Korea as a confident workaholic named Yoon Sejin.
“Miss Yoon, how do you know coding even though your major is marketing?”
“To do marketing, you have to understand the references presented by the development team. So, I learned in advance.”
She was incredibly good at her job, and she worked diligently.
And above all, she was someone who knew how to speak up against unfairness.
“The main contractor mistreated the subcontractors, and someone died. Shouldn’t we do something about it?”
“Miss Yoon Sejin, aren’t you afraid of the future? That’s not how you conduct yourself in society.“
“I’m not scared, I will speak up. I’ll live with a clear conscience.”
“You’re as stubborn as a rock.”
“If the world is filled with the same old rocks, it would be boring, wouldn’t it?”
Yoon Sejin was a passionate individual who spoke her mind without hesitation.
Opinions about her were divided, but she was a morally admirable person.
She was completely different from the version of me who was gaslighted by my family in my second life and put up with their manipulation.
After days of suffering and becoming fully aware of my memories, my daily life was hit by a storm of changes.
No, the reality I faced hadn’t changed.
But I gained confidence and courage in myself.
‘At first, it was confusing, but now it’s different.’
With Yoon Sejin’s memories, courage, and self-assurance, I was fully equipped!
First, I decided to throw my ex-boyfriend in the trash.
When Pedro contacted me, saying he needed money and wanted to go on a date, I inwardly rejoiced.
Was it because I was happy? Sad?
No, it was because I thought, “Finally, the time has come for a sparkling transformation.”
Now, it was time for the memories of my first life, where I lived confidently, to be of help.
* * *
I returned to reality and looked at Pedro.
‘If Pedro is the standard in my sweet potato field of a life, he would count as a baby sweet potato.’
Should I get immersed in dealing with this trash?
It was time to focus and wrap things up.
“If you have nothing more to say, I’m leaving.”
“Ha… well, I also have something to say.”
After hearing the “Five Hundred Reasons Why I Should Break Up With You” from me, it was a moment when Pedro, battered from the punches, prepared to strike back.
A waitress approached our table.
“What is it?”
She roughly placed the tray on the table and spoke.
“Your order has arrived.”
Pedro looked bewildered.
“But we didn’t order anything.”
She looked at me instead of Pedro with a smile on her face.
“It’s complimentary. It’s a peperoncino that will burn your eyes and a rock-hard croissant filled with scorching cream. Also, a warm and sticky cappuccino that is perfect for pouring out.”
A hard and large croissant was placed in front of me with a thud.
I noticed the subtle nuance in her dialogue.
‘If I want to get rid of my disgusting ex-boyfriend, I need a fiery ending.’
The server who glanced at me quickly left like the wind.
“Enough. I will never let you go. If we’re going to break up, it will be after I receive my noble title.”
Because I was just a cash cow and a fool to him, he wouldn’t let me slip away easily.
“Pedro, don’t you really want to break up with me?”
With those words, I lightly dipped my pinky finger into the cup of cappuccino and checked the temperature before taking it out.
“Yes, I’ve even thought about marrying you.”
As I wiped the tip of my finger with a napkin, that’s when Pedro’s face turned as red as the peperoncino.
“In that case…”
After holding the warm teacup in my hand, I elegantly lifted my pinky finger.
Now it was time for a grand finale.
There was no reason to hesitate.
Cha-ak!
