Inlaid With Jade - Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Pregnant
After lunch at noon, the three men gathered in the study to discuss the important matters of the court. Lin Yu had some free time and visited Qin Mei’an with snacks made in the kitchen. Third Brother also followed her with its tail wagging.
Qin Mei’an’s illness was strange. It didn’t seem like she had caught a cold, but she had recently been weak and had a poor appetite. Afraid that Third Brother would rush to Qin Mei’an as it had rushed to her before, Lin Yu held its collar tightly when she entered the room.
Qin Mei’an liked incense, but Lin Yu didn’t smell it when she entered the room. The windows were half open, and the yard’s red plum blossoms were blooming beautifully. Qin Mei’an sat quietly, facing the window, in a rocking chair beside the stove, doing needlework. It was a heavy cloak, and based on the color and the embroidery pattern, it should be for Lin Jing.
Seeing Lin Yu coming in, Qin Mei’an asked the maid to bring a chair and serve hot tea. Looking at Third Brother, who Lin Yu was carrying, she shook her head and smiled. Then, she threw a small pastry from the table to it. The Third Brother opened its mouth to catch it and swallow it in two bites.
The Third Brother had black fur and shed them like grass all year round. Whenever Lin Jing was around, he never let Third Brother enter the inner room. Qin Mei’an didn’t leave the room these days, and they hadn’t seen each other for a long time. However, it didn’t pounce on Qin Mei’an but swung its tail and moved its nose to sniff her. It sniffed earnestly, and the two didn’t know whether it smelled something. It just lay down at Qin Mei’an’s feet slowly, closing its eyes to nap.
Seeing that it was well-behaved, Lin Yu didn’t care much. She put the food box on the table, opened the lid, and told Qin Mei’an: “I heard from my brother that you had a poor appetite, so I asked the kitchen to make a few snacks. See if you want to eat anything.”
Qin Mei’an put down her needlework, took a closer look, and then shook her head with a wry smile.
After hearing this, Lin Yu had to cover the food box and ask someone to take it away. She sat down, looked at Qin Mei’an carefully, and said distressedly, “How can this happen so suddenly? You look thinner.”
Qin Mei’an didn’t know the exact reason: “That’s why! Your brother even asked the doctor to check, but he couldn’t find anything. But it’s fine. It’s not that I can’t eat anything; I’m just picky.”
Seeing Lin Yu’s worried face, she approached her with a smile and comforted her: “Don’t worry. I think I’m pregnant.”
Lin Yu looked at her in surprise: “Really?!”
Qin Mei’an smiled and shook her head: “I’m not sure, but my period hasn’t come yet. When the doctor in the mansion returns after the New Year, I will ask him to take my pulse carefully. ”
Seeing Lin Yu’s joy, she said gently: “I haven’t told your brother. I’m afraid he will be disappointed, so don’t tell him for now.”
Lin Yu nodded and agreed, then said, “Then you must tell me when there is news.”
Qin Mei’an and Lin Jing have been childless for many years. They have been looking forward to having a child countless times. Now that Lin Yu heard Qin Mei’an might be pregnant, she was very happy for them. As she spoke, she reached out and picked up Qin Mei’an’s thin wrist to take her pulse. She became a doctor after a long illness and was pretty accurate in reading pulses. She felt it carefully for a long time, and Qin Mei’an asked: “How is it?”
Lin Yu smiled and said, “Well… 70%.”
Qin Mei’an smiled happily, covering her lips and laughing softly.
Before Lin Jing entered the room, he heard the two people whispering about intimate things between girls, unsure what they were talking about, but they kept laughing.
The Third Brother reacted the fastest. It pricked its ears when it heard Lin Jing’s footsteps at the door. It stood up and slipped away like a puff of smoke.
Lin Yu saw Lin Jing out of the corner of her eye and said softly, “Brother, have you finished talking? Where is Li Heming?”
Once she opened her mouth, Lin Yu asked about Li Heming. He hummed and tilted his head to the outside: “Standing outside the door, waiting to take you back.”
Lin Yu saw that his face was strange, guessing they might have had another dispute in the study, and asked hurriedly: “What’s wrong? Did you quarrel with him again?”
Lin Jing frowned: “No.”
There was no quarrel, but it was better to have one. Lin Jing only realized today that Li Heming was irritating. In front of him, Li Heming called him Lord Lin, but when he saw his father, he respectfully called him “father-in-law.” The change in attitude was so fast that it was shocking. Lin Jing couldn’t stand it and said a few words to him in the study room. He didn’t expect this bastard to hide his wolf tail and pretend to be a good person in front of others, and he looked unconcerned about being criticized. Even when Lin Jing said something harsh, he replied indifferently, “Lord Lin is right.”
Ultimately, Lin Zhengqing scolded him to control his temper as the Minister of Revenue. Lin Jing couldn’t control his anger, so they dispersed after chatting. However, seeing that Lin Yu was now defending Li Heming, Lin Jing would not tell her about these things to avoid being angry with her again. He began to drive people away rudely: “Your good husband is still waiting outside the door. Take him away quickly. It makes me upset.”
Lin Yu was not angry and even bowed properly: “Yes, brother.”
Lin Jing was furious. He was aggrieved and upset before Lin Yu walked out of the door and stuck to Qin Mei’an. Lin Yu looked back and saw Lin Jing bending down and hugging Qin Mei’an from behind, burying his face in her shoulders and neck, looking angry and pitiful.
Qin Mei’an held his hand, pulled it to her lips, and kissed it gently, whispering to comfort: “Cut it out, little sister is still here.”
Lin Jing looked up when he heard it. Lin Yu didn’t dare to spoil his fun, so she quickly held back her smile, closed the door, and went to find Li Heming.
