15. Night of the Hunt (3)
Translated by: ???
Suddenly, a black shadow sprang out from her right rear like an arrow. Eve swung her machete, hitting the arm that dug into her side without even looking in that direction. The sound of bones shattering and a piercing scream shook everyone’s eardrums.
“Arrghh!”
“It’s no fun if you come at me one by one. Are you just going to watch like a bunch of puppies with your tails between your legs? Come at me all at once.”
“F*ck, attack!”
“K*ll her!”
As if the agonizing groans of their comrades had become triggers, the wolves around Eve bared their fangs and rushed towards her.
Eve was not someone who engaged in duels or battles. She was a hunter and a fighter. Of course, Eve shone the most when she was killing and hunting.
Eve swung her heavy machete, striking the sharp dagger that rushed towards her neck. The machete blade moved like flowing water, hitting the wrist that lost its weapon with great force. The dark gray fur on the werewolf’s wrist twisted in a grotesque direction.
“Kuaaakk!”
“Get her! Take her weapon, you bastards!”
“DIE!”
A werewolf with a human head and a man with ears on top of his head simultaneously lunged for Eve’s arm. Eve lowered her stance and swung her machete in one swift motion, cutting through both of their kneecaps like breaking a twig. Bright red blood splattered in front of her eyes.
“Aaah!”
“Get her! Catch her!”
“She’s just a woman!”
“This rat-like bitch!”
“Keuu, keuugh!”
Eve, feeling it with her aura, pursued them. She struck the tip of her machete into any opening she saw, shattering it. Flesh and bones flew in the air, and blood splattered everywhere.
To avoid blood splashing into her eyes, Eve leaned her head back and ducked under the onslaught of attacks. The long sword that was aimed at Eve hit the chest of a werewolf rushing towards her. Eve lowered her stance completely, swung her leg, tripped the beast’s ankle from behind, and then stood up, smashing the wolf’s neck with her heavy machete.
There was no time to rest. The blades of a longsword and a dagger rushed towards Eve. Eve swung her heavy machete, knocking away the attackers, and mercilessly thrust her fists and feet into their vital points. With each gleaming flash of the blade, the sound of bones breaking and terrible screams erupted.
The woman they thought they could easily overpower quickly proved to be too skillful. One of the werewolves, who had been watching the situation from one side of the pub’s wall, made a slightly perplexed expression and quietly left the pub.
In no time, there were more bodies lying on the ground than standing. The floor, walls, and the bodies of the survivors were covered in blood, and it was impossible to discern whose blood belonged to whom.
Eve swung her machete, shaking off the blood droplets that clung to the blade. The pub, where the brawl had taken place, momentarily fell into a state of calm. The werebeasts surrounding her each held their weapons, but did not show any signs of attempting to attack, only waiting for an opportunity to strike. Eve smirked and taunted.
“You all are more cautious than I thought, my friends. Will you keep this up until tomorrow morning?”
However, even with Eve’s provocation, the werebeasts only glanced at each other and aimed their weapons at her, showing no other reaction.
The dead bodies were just pawns prepared to drain Eve’s strength. Eve quickly realized that only these five werebeasts were the ?real deal.? They were waiting for orders.
And at that moment, the tightly closed door of the pub opened, and a familiar face entered.
“These idiotic bastards. Taking so long to deal with just one woman.”
“Long time no see, Basca. How have you been?”
“…Attack all at once. Put her in restraints.”
“Haha. Quite brave of you. I’m glad I don’t have to go looking for you.”
Basilio took out a silver metal collar from his breast pocket, ignoring Eve’s presence. Eve could easily guess that it was a mana restraint designed to neutralize a mage or an aura user. He seemed to have discovered that she was an aura user.
As soon as the order was given, the werewolves’ momentum changed, and they began to attack Eve in coordination. Her machete blade, aiming for an opening, was blocked by a thick axe, and at that moment, razor-sharp claws dug into her side. She jerked back to avoid the claws, which were sharper than any knife, and a mace was swung at her head from behind. She parried the blunt object with the blade of her machete, sending it sideways, and a foot came for her leg. They attacked like a pack of hunting animals, their hands and feet matching perfectly.
Continuing to fend off the reaching hands, Eve sliced through the throats of the attacker, and drove the blade into the werewolf’s skull as it screamed in pain. Grabbing the dead wolf by the arm, she spun it around, the tip of her blade sticking out of the corpse’s chest. While the wolf hesitated, Eve kicked the corpse and sent it flying towards the man behind it.
At that moment, someone grabbed Eve’s ponytail and yanked it back forcefully. Eve swung her arm back with her machete, but her body was pulled back before the blade could make contact with anything.
Regrets flooded her mind. She wished she had cut her hair earlier, ignoring Alberic’s constant nagging about how a lady should always have her long hair beautifully groomed.
“Hurry up! Pin her down!”
“Throw away her weapon! F*ck, what kind of woman……!”
“Legs! Grab her legs!”
“Damn it, stay still!”
As if waiting for her to fall, the wolves pounced. They grabbed her arms and legs, pinning her to the ground, struggling against her strong and violent movements, all the while cursing and muttering.
“Shouldn’t have messed with me, young lady.”
“Argh, your tongue is sharp for someone who’s attacking me with numbers…!”
“Let’s see how long you can keep whining. I’ll make you regret it to death.”
“This sh*tty…!”
“No wonder she’s strong for a woman. She’s an aura user. Let’s see if she can still jump around after being restrained.”
When Basilio threw the restraint to his subordinate, the man caught it and immediately put the cold iron collar around Eve’s neck. The corner of Eve’s mouth twitched up as she felt the cold iron collar tightly constricting her neck.
“There’s a misconception that ordinary people have.”
“What?”
“They think that aura users surround their muscles with aura to gain monstrous strength.”
The werebeasts, seeing the iron collar around Eve’s neck, relaxed their grip on her arms and legs. Eve twisted her leg and kicked the wolf’s head that was near her lower body with great force in one swift motion, sending it flying.
Bang!
“Ugh…!”
“What the hell!”
“What’s wrong? It’s just a kick.”
Eve kicked the floor as she did, folding her body to the limit, then hooked her legs around the neck of the man holding her arm from the left. The man, whose neck was caught between her legs, frantically tried to remove her leg from his neck while releasing his grip on her arm.
With her free left hand on the ground, Eve swung her leg out and, with the force of her thigh, flung the strangled man across the room. Then, without hesitation, she picked up a nearby short dagger whose owner was unknown and fiercely struck the arm of the man who had been holding her right arm. Blood spurted, and the man let out a short whimper as he crumpled down.
“Damn it! Did you properly secure the collar?”
“Y-Yes! It’s working properly!”
“Are you still under the impression that I have been using aura, even though I have been fighting without it? Which means…”
With a swift roll of her body, Eve stood up from the ground and threw her dagger upwards. She caught it in reverse as it fell, then lowered her stance, bared her teeth, and grinned.
“You guys are done for. My specialty is dogfighting, after all.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Eve jumped up and stepped on the wooden chair and table. A furry beast, almost like a complete wolf, with a huge build, tried to block her with its claws, but before its claws could reach her, Eve’s dagger sliced through the wolf’s fur and skin. In an instant, blood spurted out from under the wolf’s jaw.
As the situation took a turn for the worse, Basilio’s face darkened. Eve quickly parried her next target’s punch with her arm and brought his head down, hitting his throat with her knee.
Meanwhile, the door of the pub burst open. Basilio and the remaining werewolves turned their gaze in that direction.
“What the? I told him I could handle it myself.”
“You certainly did it splendidly.”
William, dressed in a shabby shirt and trousers that ordinary workers would wear, entered the open door with only two of his subordinates behind him.
“Grab him while you’re at it. He’s about to bolt.”
