Da Li Temple - Chapter 23.1
Chapter 23.1
Captured
When the moon was in the middle of the sky, Su Moyi took the people from the Da Li Temple to leave the Qing Ya Residence. He still carried the letter that Lin Wanqing had written to Liang Weiping. But that letter was clearly written for him, not Liang Weiping.
??
She knew that after she left, he would definitely go to interrogate Liang Weiping, so she left the letter in the most conspicuous place in the study. It explained why she had sex with him that night but also mentioned where she was going this time. Although Su Moyi didn’t ask, he was sure Lin Wanqing must have also told Liang Weiping personally.
??
That way, even if Liang Weiping confessed, it was consistent with the information in the letter. Su Moyi also had no more reason to make things difficult for him. She really considered all the details for Liang Weiping. For some reason, the smothered fire in Su Moyi’s chest seemed to have ignited again.
??
“My lord,” Ye Qing came over and looked at the crumpled letter in his hand, “Do you want to go to Lin Recorder’s hometown to look for her?”
??
Su Moyi sneered, raising his hand and tearing the letter to shreds. “If she really wanted to go home, she wouldn’t have written it on the letter.”
??
Ye Qing was anxious and pressed on, “Judging from the hour, that much time is enough to escape from Sheng City. Once out of the city, this person is like a fish in the sea. It would be difficult to find her if she didn’t go home.”
??
Su Moyi turned back, his gaze like a torch. “From the city gates to the only post station in Sheng City, it takes at least two hours on foot. She’s a woman. Furthermore, it’s nighttime now. Even if she goes out of the city rashly, we only need to work fast, and we would not fail to catch up.”
??
“So ……”
??
“So, she’s trying to lure the tiger away from the mountain.” Su Moyi twisted his index finger under his wide sleeve, creating a rustling sound. He paused and raised his eyes to the city gates not far away, his gaze dark, “Since she wants us to chase after her, let’s not fail this intention.”
??
The same sliver of the cold moon shone on the furious man under the city gates and on the person in the broken temple who hardly slept through the night. She leaned over and placed a hot bun in her hand on the floor, her long fingers tapping on the door frame. A small white dog ran from the distance with its tail wagging and a small note in its mouth.
??
“Eat it,” Lin Wanqing took the note from its mouth and rubbed its head.
??
The little white dog obediently took the meat bun and plopped down on the side to eat it.
??
Lin Wanqing already left the Da Li Temple an hour ago. When Ye Qing sent her back, she probed several times and knew that Su Moyi hadn’t told him her identity. Therefore, she guessed that if even Su Moyi’s most trusted person, Ye Qing, didn’t know, no one in Da Li Temple would know. Furthermore, Su Moyi left hurriedly and only asked Ye Qing to watch over her. He didn’t allow her to go but didn’t forbid others to come.
??
With the excuse of buying medicine, she asked someone to find a courtesan. She asked her to dress as her friend and brought a woman’s clothes to visit.
??
Ye Qing was an honest person. Seeing the girl’s clothes exposed a bit, he didn’t know where to put his eyes. So Lin Wanqing wore the courtesan’s clothes and strutted out. She bought out the little beggar on the street and told him to go squat at the entrance of Da Li Temple and report to her if he saw someone leaving the city gates with guards.
Seemingly, Su Moyi has already left the city to catch her. She raised her head to look at the moonlight tonight, unable to say whether she was happy or sad. It seemed she would have to put her father’s case on hold again for a while. However, she still had a lifetime to work on it. When she thought about it that way, it seemed like there was nothing to feel sorry for.
??
“Little White,” Lin Wanqing patted the little white dog’s back and smiled, “Go to bed early. You still have to rush early tomorrow morning.”
??
The next day, Lin Wanqing counted the hours and got up early. When she left Da Li temple, she packed lightly and only brought two sets of clothes to change on the road. To avoid possible probing eyes in the city, she didn’t change out of yesterday’s outfit. With a cloth bag in one hand and Little White in the other, she followed the first group of people out of Sheng City.
Counting the time, from last night until now, the people from Da Li Temple should have chased at least a few dozen miles.
??
Sheng City was the capital of the Nan Dynasty, located in a fortress that was easy to defend and difficult to attack. Therefore, leaving and entering the city had to pass through a narrow valley with the only resting post on this road. Lin Wanqing counted the time, thinking she would probably have time for a break there before lunch and have lunch on the way. The main road was straight, shaded by the trees, and from time to time, there were rushing carriages and horses passing by, rolling up the flying gravel. The journey was smooth. At midday, she could already see the small two-story station not far away with gray bricks and black tiles and a shady area supported by an awning cloth for travelers to rest.
??
Lin Wanqing felt that she was lucky today. Usually, the post station would be overcrowded. Today, it looked as if it was still empty. She quickened her pace, and Little White trotted along behind her.
??
The bells on the door curtains were ruffling, making a clear ringing sound. Lin Wanqing entered and found a table in the lobby to sit down. When she put down the bag in her hand, a servant boy came over.
??
“Miss,” he called with a smile, softly saying, “This post station is under renovation today. Guests should come to the second floor.”
??
Lin Wanqing was stunned. Her gaze fell on the teenager in carpentry clothes at the corner, then followed the servant boy to the second floor. He led her to the innermost private room. The room was clean, and the windows were not facing the street, so the sound of pedestrians coming and going wouldn’t disturb her.
??
Lin Wanqing walked in and wanted to open the window to take a breather but realized she couldn’t push it.
