Chapter 13 part 1
When she opened her eyes, Su Ci saw that Lu Zhe had already turned away and was quickly leaving.
Su Ci didn’t continue to pester him, fearing that if she pushed too hard, she might scare him off.
Lu Zhe ended up being late after all. By the time he arrived at the classroom, he was already more than ten minutes late.
This was his first time being late.
The teacher, being considerate of this top student who had a terminal illness, didn’t say much and simply asked him to take his seat.
“Brother Zhe,” Li Dongliang approached as soon as Lu Zhe sat down, “Did you bring the little bunny today?”
“No,” Lu Zhe replied, taking out his textbook.
Li Dongliang immediately became deflated, lying bored on his desk. Days without seeing the bunny were uninteresting to him.
At the staircase corner.
Fu Baili looked down at the shy girl in front of him, who was too timid to meet his gaze. With his hands in his pockets and a commanding posture, he asked, “Are you scared of me?”
Unlike other girls, this girl had dodged him multiple times when they crossed paths.
Was it a game of playing hard to get?
She had now indeed caught his attention.
“It’s not that, Fu Baili. Please move aside; class has already started.” Zhao Youyou’s eyes were reddened, her voice soft and gentle.
When she left her house in the afternoon, the entrance was once again littered with trash.
The couple upstairs became even more outrageous. After finding out that her family had won the prize of five million yuan, they somehow collected a lot of leftover food and smelly garbage, dumping it in front of their door daily. Even when they sought help from the property management of the community, the issue remained unresolved.
This time, her mother went upstairs to argue with the couple and nearly got pushed down the stairs.
The harsh words from the couple made Zhao Youyou break into tears.
Fu Baili, tall and imposing, didn’t move aside. The girl in front of him spoke in a weak tone, her reddened eyes making her look like a little rabbit, which made people want to tease her.
“Since you’re already late, does it matter if you’re a little later?” Fu Baili blocked Zhao Youyou’s way, “You’ve been avoiding me. Is it because you like me?”
“You …” Zhao Youyou looked up at him in disbelief.
In her previous life, it was she who had liked and pursued him, but Fu Baili had always treated her with disdain.
With a hint of grievance, Zhao Youyou bit her lip. Why was it that when she liked him, he ignored her, but now that she didn’t, he came pestering?
She mustered up the courage to look Fu Baili in the eyes, “You’re mistaken, I don’t like you.” Worried that Fu Baili wouldn’t believe her, Zhao Youyou emphasized, “I like Lu Zhe, not you.”
She wasn’t afraid of her lie being exposed because even though she didn’t like Lu Zhe, she knew that Lu Zhe had feelings for her.
The smile at the corner of Fu Baili’s lips faded. He sneered, “Lu Zhe? You’re fond of someone with a short life?”
“It’s none of your business.” Feeling intimidated under Fu Baili’s gaze, Zhao Youyou quickly lowered her head.
“Indeed, it isn’t my business,” Fu Baili responded with a cold smile before turning away.
Inside the classroom, only the sound of the teacher’s lecture could be heard. Suddenly, the back door was kicked open.
Everyone looked up to see Fu Baili stride in, seething with anger. No one knew who had provoked this young master.
The teacher looked visibly upset and was about to reprimand him, but recalling the instructions given by the principal, he held back. He slapped the podium forcefully, “Focus on the lecture!”
Everyone immediately regained their focus.
Fu Baili pulled out a chair and casually leaned against its back. He cast a sidelong glance at Lu Zhe sitting across the aisle.
Tsk, what a nerd.
……
After leaving the mall, Su Ci suddenly realized she didn’t have the key to Lu Zhe’s place. Even if she went back, she couldn’t get in.
Considering Lu Zhe was working tonight and wouldn’t finish until 9 pm, she let out a frustrated sigh. She couldn’t possibly wait outside all day, so her only option was to head to Lu Zhe’s school to get the key.
The summer sun was intense, its harsh rays causing the leaves and branches of the trees lining the street to wilt.
Su Ci, not fond of the heat, bought an iced milk tea. She leisurely strolled, in no hurry to find Lu Zhe at school since he wouldn’t finish class anytime soon.
As she sipped on her sweet milk tea as she observed the life values on the inner wrists of the pedestrians. She noticed that most had yellow grids, and she felt she had never seen a green one, indicating a lifespan over a hundred years.
She summoned Fu Gui and asked, “Why can’t I see my own life value?”
Fu Gui: [Fu Gui doesn’t know either.]
Su Ci: “You mentioned before that my life is tied to Lu Zhe’s, meaning if he dies, I die. Does that mean his life value is also my life value?”
Fu Gui: [Not exactly. If Lu Zhe dies, you definitely die. But if you die, Lu Zhe might not necessarily die.]
Su Ci bit her straw angrily as her eyes shone with rage, “So, you’re saying my lifespan is unknown, right?”
Fu Gui shivered: [Yes.]
Su Ci took a big sip of her milk tea, annoyed.
At that moment, an elderly woman, adorned with gold and silver jewelry and white hair, slowly walked by. Two tall men in black suits followed closely behind her, drawing the attention of many pedestrians. It was evident that the old lady was of significant status.
Su Ci’s gaze shifted to the old lady, particularly her hand.
The lifeline grid on her hand had a thin, faint red line that was about to vanish.
Su Ci had encountered this situation before; the last person she saw with such a lifeline was Xiao Kuaile.
The old lady had only 1 minute left in her life.
Suci observed the old lady’s complexion, which was rosy and didn’t indicate any signs of impending death.
Could it be an accident?
With two imposing bodyguards accompanying her, what kind of accident could possibly occur?
Su Ci wasn’t the kind to be nosy. In her perspective, even with the presence of such robust bodyguards, the elderly woman was still destined to pass away. Given her own frail stature, she felt even more powerless to intervene in any potential accident.
Regretfully glancing at the almost vanished red line on the old lady’s hand, Su Ci brushed past her.
Fu Gui: [Master, save her! Save her!]
Su Ci: “Quiet down. Didn’t you see she has bodyguards? What do you think I, with my thin arms and legs, can do?”
Fu Gui: [There’s a heavy object falling from above, about to hit her on the head. Master, hurry and save her!]
Su Ci halted in her action of sipping her drink, looking up in disbelief. Sure enough, she saw something falling from a high floor.
Her instincts acted faster than her thoughts. Discarding her milk tea, Suci quickly moved and pushed the elderly lady aside, yelling, “Watch out!”
One of the bodyguards, having stabilized the old lady after she was shoved, turned angrily towards Su Ci, ready to confront her. “What are you doing?” he demanded.
Suddenly, with a loud “bang”, a glass kettle narrowly missed the bodyguard, shattering into pieces at his feet.
Both the bodyguards and the old lady were stunned.
