Beast, Blue Blood - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
“He seems to live his life to the fullest.”
Hisha couldn’t help but admire.
Thinking back on how thoughtlessly he had spoken, Hisha felt like hitting himself.
“Where did you find such a person?”
It was when Leah spoke that Hisha came to his senses.
“He’s just too cute.”
Leah reached out her hand toward him again.
“Stop.”
At Eugene’s cold voice, Leah stopped her hand.
“Alright.”
“You need to know Leah Mavrogiotis.”
Kate had once advised.
“She’s the only one among the siblings who’s close to Eugene Fuger-Dulloch.”
That’s what he heard, but even more surprising was that Leah didn’t seem to care much about being slapped.
“Go.”
At Eugene’s words, Leah seemed a bit disappointed but obediently followed her instructions. Of course, she waved her hand playfully before leaving.
“See you later.”
Leah left first, and Eugene turned to Hisha.
“Sorry, my sister is quite immature.”
“It’s alright.”
But Hisha was a bit bothered. The female employees last time, and now this time as well…
“Well, um…”
As he hesitantly started to speak, Eugene looked at him. Hisha, pondering how to ask, just went ahead since Eugene was waiting.
“Do you think I’m cute…?”
Eugene closed her mouth, not sure how to answer.
“No…”
So she unintentionally answered, but Hisha seemed to notice something and had a sullen expression.
“You’re lying.”
He sighed and muttered quietly.
“But I’m still a man.”
Though she didn’t doubt that fact, Eugene found Hisha’s crestfallen face even cuter and smiled awkwardly.
“It’s a bit different… It doesn’t mean you’re not manly, Young-soo.”
Judging by his expression, he thought she was just being nice. But with Leah to deal with first, Eugene then spoke.
“See you later.”
Hisha bowed his head, and Eugene went to the main building. As she was entering the room, Leah appeared behind her.
“Definitely interested, 100%. But why don’t you make a move?”
Eugene cast a nonchalant glance at Leah and walked on.
“What do you mean, make a move on a person?”
Regardless, Leah asked with sparkling eyes.
“What are you waiting for?”
“Not waiting for anything.”
Eugene approached the bar where drinks were prepared and asserted, while Leah spoke as if astonished.
“So, you’re just going to have a ritual for him?”
“He’s young.”
Eugene said, holding a glass. Leah, with one hand on her hip, asked.
“How old?”
“Twenty-five.”
Leah made an exaggerated gesture like a comedian.
“I thought he was underage, but that’s quite old.”
Meanwhile, as Eugene offered her a drink, Leah waved her hand genuinely this time.
“I’m on a dry spell. I drank so much on the island last week that I threw up my guts.”
Assuming as much, Eugene didn’t ask further and took a sip of her drink. She sat on the sofa, and Leah naturally sat beside her.
Eugene asked.
“How is your mother?”
“Don’t ask. It’s hard for me to see her face too. She’s currently in a passionate affair.”
“With that Colombian model from back then?”
“Colombian model?”
Leah looked puzzled, then realized.
“Oh, the last boyfriend? She changed him a while ago. You know, your aunt changes men faster than she changes her underwear.”
Then, like asking about a scandal that rocked Hollywood, she asked with twinkling eyes.
“So, how’s the virus progress?”
Eugene immediately stood up.
“Goodbye. It was nice to see you after a while.”
Leah laughed and grabbed Eugene’s sleeve.
“Alright, alright. I won’t ask. Everyone’s making such a fuss that I just wanted to ask once.”
As Eugene sat down again, Leah continued to chatter.
“Our company is also developing cosmetics using telomerase. If it works well, you can maintain your youthful face forever.”
She gestured with her arms as she said ‘forever.’
“Though it’s up to you to make sure you don’t die.”
Then Leah gave a coquettish smile.
“Technology collaboration is always welcome.”
Eugene didn’t respond and drank her liquor. Leah sat beside her and leaned her head on her shoulder without hesitation.
“It’s tough, isn’t it? Don’t worry. None of those other guys will be able to set foot in this mansion. This place is yours. Who can replace Eugene Fuger-Dulloch? It’s only natural that father left such a will because he knew you’d complete the virus. He’s just grumbling, wanting you to use your power a bit. So grumpy. To think he’d show his trust in such a way.”
Leah, who had been chattering, spoke seriously.
“Don’t forget that I’m on your side.”
Eugene didn’t respond, slowly swirling her glass, creating a gentle whirlpool in the wine. It was just a whirlpool in the glass, but if there were an insect in it, it would be enough to drown it.
Suddenly, Leah glanced up and asked.
“But seriously, if you’re not going to go for that part-timer, can I hit on him?”
Eugene got up as if it wasn’t worth answering. Leah, who was leaning against her, fell to the side and lay on the sofa like a lazy cat, watching Eugene’s back with smiling eyes.
* * *
“Hi.”
A bright and high-pitched voice rang out as if there were no worries in the world, and Hisha sighed inwardly. However, he turned around and greeted her without showing it.
“Hello.”
Leah walked in, looking around the greenhouse.
Eugene had gone to work, but Leah, who didn’t seem to work or was perhaps on vacation, remained in the mansion. Unfortunately for Hisha.
“This place is quite nice. I never thought to come here.”
She had never thought to come to a space guarded by a dull middle-aged man, but the presence of such a cute boy changed things. The boy seemed to have a straightforward personality, as his displeasure was evident on his face, which only made him cuter. Leah felt an urge to tease him so he wouldn’t make such a face again.
With that thought, Leah sat on a bench.
“Go on, work. I won’t disturb you.”
Hisha and Pierlu immediately started their work without asking twice.
As they went about their tasks, Leah stared at Hisha. Continuously. Without taking her eyes off him for a moment.
Trying to ignore it, Hisha found it impossible to work and eventually asked.
“Do you have something to say?”
Leah, as if waiting for him to ask, replied.
“Our Young-soo seems to have a solid body. Looks like a knife wouldn’t go through.”
Her eyes glinted mischievously between her narrowed eyelids. Hisha felt uneasy, wondering if she knew something, but convinced himself that if she did, she wouldn’t just watch idly.
“Please don’t actually try to stab me.”
Leah laughed like a child.
“Oh, you’re so cute. Really. I want to keep you locked up.”
“I’m not an animal.”
When Hisha replied in exasperation, Leah smiled.
“Who said only animals can be kept?”
Hisha couldn’t tell if it was a joke or serious. Before he could respond, Leah turned to Pierlu.
“But why are you still here, old man?”
“Because I haven’t been fired.”
Pierlu answered without any agitation. Surprisingly, he seemed quite composed when dealing with Leah.
Leah spoke again.
“Our father isn’t here either. No one would stop you if you decided to leave.”
“If the master asks me to leave, I will.”
At Pierlu’s words, Leah shrugged.
“Everyone is so stubborn. Don’t you think, Young-soo?”
Hisha could only smile awkwardly, and Leah, as if remembering something, spoke again.
“Oh, Young-soo might not know. This old man once ran away with Eugene’s mother.”
Pierlu flinched, and Hisha didn’t know what expression to make. He was aware of the situation, but hearing such a shocking story so casually from Leah was beyond comprehension.
Leah seemed oblivious to the uncomfortable silence she had created. Or maybe she was ignoring it.
“Is it because of your son’s hospital bills? I heard it’s an incurable disease. You know you can’t cure it. You’ll just spend money and suffer until he dies. Why not take the severance pay and send him to a hospice? At least if you quit while Eugene is here, you’ll get the severance…”
“Miss!”
Hisha shouted so loudly that even Leah was startled.
“What?”
Even if he got fired, Hisha couldn’t let this go.
“You can’t say that. If you thought your father was going to die…”
“No?”
Leah interrupted, tilting her head as if she genuinely didn’t understand.
“I wouldn’t care. Why should I be sad about a biological father who did nothing but make a mess?”
Hisha was speechless, having never met anyone who spoke like this. Meanwhile, Leah laughed brightly.
“Don’t you get it from my last name? I’m a Mavrogiotis, not a Fuger-Dulloch. In the past, even stepping into this house was unthinkable for me. So I want Eugene to inherit the family as soon as possible.”
Meeting someone like this for the first time, Hisha felt his worldview shaking. Seeing his confusion, Leah burst into laughter.
“I know. It’s confusing, right? But that’s how it is in this world. Seryozha genuinely even wants his father to die. He should’ve been named Dmitri (the eldest of the Karamazov brothers, who has an extremely bad relationship with his father).”
As for Seryozha, it was Sergei’s nickname.
“Her… fiancé?”
Hisha asked, bewildered, and Leah smiled with her hands on her hips.
“So you know too, Young-soo. Seryozha already has a wife. Everyone knows; it’s no secret.”
Of course, Hisha knew. But…
Before he could think further, Leah continued.
