After Transmigrating Into the Book, I picked Up the Protagonist-Shou - Chapter 39 Part 2
“Give me the Spirit Gathering Pill,” Chu Guiyi said.
Chu Wenfeng nodded, took out a bottle of pills from his sleeve, and handed it to Chu Guiyi.
Curious, Xie Shuci asked, “What’s a Spirit Gathering Pill?”
Chu Wenfeng sneered, “You don’t even know what a Spirit Gathering Pill is and you want to be an alchemist?”
“Can’t you even go a day without mocking me?”
Chu Guiyi explained, “As the name suggests, the Spirit Gathering Pill temporarily replaces the Golden Core to gather spiritual power.” He added, “The pill takes some time to take effect. Please wait a moment.”
Xie Shuci and Chu Wenfeng worked together to tie up the unconscious Sun Xiaohu.
While Great King, seemingly full of energy, circled around Xie Shuci non-stop. After they finished tying up Sun Xiaohu, Xie Shuci sat down next to Xie An, and Great King darted into his lap, rubbing his face against Xie Shuci’s clothes and nudging his hand with his head, hoping to be petted.
Chu Guiyi meditated nearby, while Chu Wenfeng watched him eagerly.
“This is Great King, a red snow wolf that looks like a puppy. Do you want to pet him?” Xie Shuci patted the dog’s head and picked him up.
The puppy fussed happily in Xie Shuci’s hands, trying to snuggle into his lap and even attempting to lick him. Remembering the dog’s mouth was just covered in blood, Xie Shuci recoiled in mild disgust, but Great King, eager and relentless, tried to climb onto his shoulder.
“This little guy…”
Just as Great King’s front paws reached Xie Shuci’s shoulder, ready to claim his spot, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, pulling him off Xie Shuci.
“Woo!” Great Wang’s four legs flailed in the air, trying to break free from the grip on his neck. He didn’t like this person’s scent! His keen instincts told him this human was very dangerous, extremely dangerous.
Xie An calmly held the puppy and pulled him into his own arms.
Great King was restless in Xie An’s arms, trying to crawl back towards Xie Shuci. But Xie An grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and pulled it back.
“Awoo, Awoo, woo!”
Save me, Daddy!
Xie Shuci had no idea what the little creature was thinking. Seeing how Xie An seemed to be “in love” with Great King, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Xie An, so you like dogs, huh?”
Xie An said nothing, lowering his head and once again pressing the little creature, which was trying to run to Xie Shuci, back into his arms.
Great King was furious. He was about to transform back to his original form to teach this insolent human a lesson. Just as his spiritual power began to surge, Xie An pressed down gently on his back, forcing all the spiritual power back inside.
Infuriated, Great King opened his mouth to bite Xie An’s hand. Xie Shuci happened to see this and lightly slapped its head. “Don’t make trouble, don’t bite him!”
“Wooo…” Great King cried pitifully.
He glanced resentfully at the human holding him and saw that he was smiling! He was smiling! He must be mocking him! Daddy treated this human better than him! He wanted to poop in this human’s arms to teach him a lesson!
Wiggling his bottom, Great King was just getting worked up when a big hand suddenly pressed on his forehead. He froze, looking up to see the human watching him with an amused expression.
That scared Great King out of his tantrum!
Finding this human terrifying, he didn’t want to stay in his arms any longer. Thinking quickly, he transformed into a two or three-year-old toddler, clambered into Xie Shuci’s lap, and clung tightly to his neck, looking anxiously at the nearby human.
“Hey…”
“Daddy… I’m scared…”
The little child clung to Xie Shuci’s neck so tightly that a bit more force would have strangled him.
“Cough cough…” Xie Shuci coughed, quickly prying Great King’s hands from his neck and taking a few deep breaths.
“Daddy…”
Just as Xie Shuci was about to explain to Xie An, he saw Xie An’s stern face, seemingly contemplating something, like how to get the little toddler off Xie Shuci.
After a moment, Xie An reached out directly.
“Wait—don’t… he’s just a kid…”
“Daddy, Wuuu… I’m scared…”
Xie An’s movements paused, his eyes narrowing slightly as he mouthed silently, “Daddy?”
Xie Shuci explained, “He’s a little wolf demon who can naturally transform. It seems he’s never seen his parents, so he thinks I’m his dad.”
After he heard this, Xie An pursed his lips and looked towards Chu Wenfeng, as if to ask, “Why didn’t he think of him as his dad?”
How would Xie Shuci know? Great King, still trembling slightly, clung to him even tighter. Xie Shuci could only pat his back gently.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, don’t be scared,” Xie Shuci comforted softly.
Xie An lowered his eyes and suddenly reached out to Xie Shuci, “Give him to me.”
Xie Shuci asked in confusion, “Do you know how to soothe a child?”
Xie An nodded confidently, “I do.”
Although Xie Shuci was doubtful, seeing Xie An’s insistence, he tried to pass the Great King over. But as soon as the Great King saw Xie An’s hand, he started shaking even more, with big tears rolling down his cheeks and soaking Xie Shuci’s clothes.
“Uh,” Xie Shuci hesitated, “he seems a bit afraid of you.”
“He’s not afraid.” Xie An was resolute, lifting Great King by the armpits and firmly pulling him from Xie Shuci’s arms.
Great King struggled with all his limbs but for some reason, didn’t dare to cry out loud. Once he was in Xie An’s arms, he looked tearfully at Xie Shuci, hoping to be taken back.
“Hey, he’s really not crying anymore!” Xie Shuci marveled at the now quiet Great King sitting on Xie An’s lap. “Xie An, you really know how to soothe kids.”
Great King, “…”
Daddy, are you blind? Wuwu.
Daddy, can’t you see his hand on my neck? Wuwu
Daddy, he’s not soothing me, he’s threatening me, wuwu..
Xie An nodded without a hint of embarrassment and then gently patted the back of Great King’s neck. The little toddler immediately turned back into a puppy, but he didn’t dare climb onto Xie Shuci again.
Xie An set him on the ground and patted his head, indicating he should go play by himself.
Great King reluctantly glanced at the warm embrace of his daddy, then resolutely scampered over to lie beside Chu Wenfeng, casting a resentful glance at Xie An with his big black eyes.
There’s a bad guy taking Daddy away, and I can’t win against him, darn it!
Before long, Chu Guiyi, who had been meditating, opened his eyes.
Chu Wenfeng immediately straightened up and asked, “Senior Brother, are you okay?”
Chu Guiyi’s face was a bit pale, with fine sweat on his forehead. He propped one leg on the ground and said hoarsely, “It was much more difficult than I expected, but fortunately, I can still walk.”
He had used the Spirit Gathering Pill to temporarily repair his spiritual veins, reducing the physical burden caused by the loss of spiritual energy.
“Typically, a secret realm is open for seven days. The Dragon Tooth Secret Realm is different from others. During the day, apart from the abundant spiritual energy, it’s no different from the cultivation world. However, at night, the danger level doubles compared to other secret realms. Many rare treasures only appear with the onset of night, along with various dangers,” Chu Guiyi explained to the three.
“Should we leave now?” Xie Shuci asked.
Chu Guiyi nodded. “Shuci, please open the Dragon subduing artifact.”
Supported by Chu Wenfeng, Chu Guiyi stood up. Chu Wenfeng picked up a stick to use as a crutch and handed it to Chu Guiyi.
Xie Shuci nodded and then looked at the unconscious Sun Xiaohu on the ground. “What about him?”
Chu Guiyi replied, “The Sun family members should be waiting outside. We’ll hand him over to them.”
Chu Wenfeng roughly picked Sun Xiaohu up from the ground, wrapped the whip around his neck, and signaled to Xie Shuci to open the dome.
Great Wang, being a very smart wolf, transformed back into his majestic red snow wolf form, with snow-white fur except for a patch of blood-red hair on his left ear.
Xie Shuci gathered a ball of spiritual energy in his palm and struck upwards. With a thunderous sound, the dome showed signs of breaking.
As the dome vanished, the Sun family disciples, who had been standing guard, immediately drew their swords and surrounded the group, glaring at them.
“What did you do to our Senior Brother?”
One of them pointed his sword at the group, including the wolf.
Chu Wenfeng tightened the whip and raised his chin towards the crowd. “Take one more step and see what happens.”
Seeing Sun Xiaohu’s life in Chu Wenfeng’s hands, the Sun family disciples dared not make a move. One of them asked coldly, “What do you want? If anything happens to our Senior Brother, the Sun family will never forgive you!”
Chu Wenfeng sneered, “Even in its decline, the Chu family is not someone a mere Sun family can contend with. Do you think your family is the only one in Yingzhou coveting the Chu family’s position? And yet have you ever seen anyone openly going against the Chu family? Previously, our Senior Brother did not want to bother with you clowns, but I tell you, from now on, you better avoid the Chu family. Otherwise, I will make sure you regret it. —Now move aside!”
“You…”
Chu Wenfeng tightened the whip, leaving a mark on Sun Xiaohu’s neck, and repeated, “Move aside.”
The disciple’s face turned ashen, but with Sun Xiaohu’s life at stake, he had no choice but to motion for the others to make way.
The four passed through unimpeded, with Great King beside Xie Shuci, baring his teeth at the Sun family disciples, as if to say, “Anyone who disrespects my dad will be bitten to death.”
After walking for a long time until the Sun family disciples were out of sight, Chu Wenfeng threw Sun Xiaohu to the roadside.
Chu Guiyi said, “They will probably catch up soon. We need to leave here quickly.”
Through the gaps in the tree canopy, they could see the sky darkening. It wouldn’t be long before nightfall.
“Shuci, we need to leave this forest quickly. Let him lead the way,” Chu Guiyi said, referring to Great King. He had overheard Xie Shuci’s conversation with Xie An.
Xie Shuci nodded, bending down to rub Great King’s head. “We need to leave here now. Can you lead the way?”
“Aoo Aoo!” Great King, excited to finally be useful, spun in a circle, his tail wagging like a windmill. He even deliberately passed by Xie An, throwing him a contemptuous look.
See! Daddy likes me the most, he didn’t ask you to lead the way!
Great King darted to the front, signaling everyone to follow him.
Xie Shuci took a couple of steps forward, then realized Xie An hadn’t moved.
He turned back in confusion and saw Xie An standing still, looking displeased.
