When a Well-Raised Son Grows Up - Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Abella blinked when she heard Esha’s words. “Will Carlisle get hurt? Why?” As if expecting that question, Esha sighed deeply.
“That kid really didn’t have any plan either. Jumping into imprinting without knowing much about the mating season…”
Observing Esha, who appeared to have a headache and was rubbing her forehead, Leon stood up for Carlisle.
“Carlisle has always been somewhat apart from his group… Maybe no one properly told him about being in heat or imprinting.”
While Abella, who still seemed clueless, just continued to nod, it was Leon who cautiously spoke up, observing her.
“The heat itself from imprinting power is quite different from regular animal heat… Maybe Carlisle didn’t know about that.”
“So, how is it different?”
“Well… Because it’s caused by an external force, if the inner desire isn’t released, there’s a good chance the body could be harmed by the pressure. It’s uncertain if the body can endure it before getting harmed…”
Leon scratched his head, looking confused and lost in thought.
“What happens if he can’t handle it? What then?”
“Sorry, I don’t know anything either…”
“No worries. There’s nothing to apologize for. Um… Usually, during mating season, mates instinctively seek each other out. It’s just nature… When both are the same species, they easily find each other, but as you can see with Abella’s situation, in humans, even if they imprint on our species, the mating season might not come. So, I guess Carlisle might not come looking, given how quiet it’s been. It’s a bit strange.”
Leon said, looking out the window for no particular reason, “It’s quite impressive to endure this much, isn’t it? Haha, I can barely last 5 minutes when mating season arrives…”
“That’s something to be proud of.”
Esha, who was nearby and now towering over Leon, pinched his cheek and gave him a stern look. Despite this, Leon, with an innocent expression, willingly offered his cheek to Esha, whether she pinched it or not.
“You’ll hurt me if you pinch like that.”
As Esha saw Leon’s playful laugh, she blushed and turned away. Leon simply responded with a happy smile.
As Abella watched the two, Carlisle came to her mind. His image popped into her head because his innocent appearance, masking his intense look, oddly resembled Leon.
“You and Carlisle look so similar, you could be brothers, don’t you think?”
Abella laughed quietly as she said, “It’s similar to what Carlisle does.”
At her words, Leon smiled slyly and laughed softly.
“I think Carl might be upset if he heard that.”
“Abella, could you stay with Carlisle? It’s a bit scary for him to be alone…”
At Esha’s words, Abella’s expression darkened slightly. After all, talking about mating season made Abella feel uneasy too.
Eventually, less than an hour after arriving at Esha’s house, Abella couldn’t sit still anymore.
“I guess I should go after all.”
Esha smiled as if she had anticipated Abella’s response.
“If you need anything, feel free to come by anytime.”
“Thanks, Esha.”
After that, Abella swiftly turned and went back to her own house.
As Abella got closer to her own house, which was near Esha’s house, she took a deep breath.
Her safe place appeared just as calm as always, with thin trails of smoke rising from the chimney and gentle light coming through the windows.
But Abella was unsure of Carlisle’s condition inside… Feeling tense, she swallowed nervously, trying not to make any noise, as she carefully made her way towards her home.
But something was off. As she neared her house, a strange thumping sound grew louder from inside.
Confused, Abella cautiously looked through a small opening in the window to see inside the house. However…
“Carlisle!”
Was Carlisle, in the form of a large wolf, indeed banging his head against the wall?
Surprised, Abella screamed and hurried into the house. The sight of Carlisle inside was even more shocking.
It wasn’t clear how long he’d been banging his head against the wall; blood was flowing from his forehead, and he’d even used a thick rope to tie around his neck.
“Carlisle! What’s happening?!”
Carlisle was groaning and drooling heavily, feeling extremely thirsty. Abella, seeing him in that condition, felt confused and didn’t know what to do.
When Carlisle saw Abella, he became even more excited, barking loudly as he tried to run towards her. However, the rope around his neck prevented him from reaching her.
As he tried to run, the chain tightened, making him yelp. He tried again but faced another painful tug. This went on, with him coughing and gasping for breath each time.
Abella saw Carlisle’s distress and hurried to untie the leash, but it was difficult because Carlisle was struggling against it.
“Hey, calm down, please… Just try to stay calm!”
Abella couldn’t stop the tears streaming down her face. But despite her tearful sorrow, she was filled with anger inside.
“You idiot! Who told you to go this far? What’s happening? How will you make it through the night? I’m not complaining because you didn’t mate with me.”
With tears in her eyes, Abella managed to remove the chain from Carlisle’s neck. Immediately, Carlisle rushed towards her, almost eagerly. Abella stumbled backward and fell to the ground as he approached. Instead of the comforting embrace she expected, she felt the rough breath of the beast and its tangled fur against her.
“Ouch… I came to help, and you’re pushing me like this! What’s going on?”
Abella shouted at Carlisle in frustration. But as soon as she looked at him, she realized something was wrong.
That Carlisle has lost his mind. Abella was taken aback by his wild-eyed look, feeling a sudden chill down her spine as memories of that night flooded back. Her body tensed instinctively, overwhelmed by a sense of dread.
“Baby”
She called out to Carlisle with a shaky voice. She anticipated his usual innocent reply, but instead, Carlisle, tears flowing, only let out unintelligible cries.
For a moment he moaned above her, then abruptly ran out again, running towards the wall to bang his head once more.
“Thud!” The entire house shook with a loud noise.
“Carlisle!”
Surprised, Abella quickly reached out to stop him, only to grab Carlisle’s tail by mistake.
Abella grabbed his tail and tried to pull him towards her. It was as if she was calling him.
In a strange turn, Carlisle defensively bared his teeth at Abella. Suddenly, her concern that he might attack her felt insignificant.
“Don’t do that, come here. Huh? You’re hurt, you’re bleeding…”
Abella openly expressed her frustration. She reached out to Carlisle with a handful of concern, but he avoided her touch and ran off to another part of the house.
“Hey! Where are you going!”
Abella ran as fast as she could, but Carlisle, with his quick movements, outpaced her. He ran around the house, dodging Abella each time. This left her panting and breathless, feeling like she had just run a race.
“Come on, Carlisle. Let’s put some medicine on and stay with me. Okay?”
Wiping sweat from her brow, Abella spoke wearily. But Carlisle still seemed hesitant to come near her.
Carlisle crouched close to the ground, ready to jump at a moment’s notice. He continued to slap the ground with his tail.
Abella noticed a red patch of flesh amidst Carlisle’s black fur. It had sharp spikes embedded in it, a familiar sight to her. She trembled at the sight, swallowing nervously as a lump formed in her throat.
“Take it easy, You’re a good boy, come here.”
Abella tried to hide her trembling voice as she spoke. But in the end, it was still trembling.
The tense situation made Abella nervous, just like anyone else would be. Despite Abella’s gentle call, Carlisle remained stubbornly distant, refusing to listen to her words.
The blood on his forehead had dried, causing his fur to stick together in stiff patches. Finally, Abella found the courage to come closer to Carlisle. But… what happened next was very fast.
