To My Husband's Mistress - Chapter 2 Part 3
Leticia replied, taking the towel. Her hands trembled slightly as she pressed on her wounds. Although the immediate danger had passed, she couldn’t help but feel scared and overwhelmed by what lay ahead.
“Hmm. The bleeding hasn’t stopped yet, which is a big problem. Even though Lord Sion personally treated you.”
Langry casually muttered, sparking Leticia’s curiosity.
“Um, does ‘Sol’ usually heal people like this?”.
“‘Like this’, Lady?”
Langry replied, feigning ignorance.
Despite knowing what he meant, Leticia explained firmly, her cheeks turning red.
“Well, by touching the flesh… and spending time. Does he have to do it that way?”
“Small wounds can be healed quickly. But in Lady’s case, her life was at stake, so there was no other choice. Lord Sion has never seen such a serious injury before.”
Indeed, who would have seen someone on the verge of death like her? Those who can reach him are originally of a status where they are not at risk of getting hurt.
“Even so, it took him several days and the bleeding still hasn’t stopped. Lord Sion may have a bad personality, but his abilities are excellent. But even he must be past his prime.”
Langry said with a hint of pity in his voice.
It was at that moment when Langry expressed his regret that a cold voice suddenly came from behind.
“Who are you treating a has-been?”
“Even the Emperor wouldn’t insult those who are not present, but you two are quite impressive.”
Sionian clucked his tongue as he returned. His eyes alternated between her and Langry, as if they were accomplices. Though she felt a bit intimidated, she knew she had to express her gratitude.
“I have heard everything from Sir Langry. Thank you very much for saving my life, Your Highness.”
Leticia bowed her head while pressing on her lightly bleeding wound. His deep blue eyes, like the northern sky, lingered on her for a moment.
“Foolish.”
Clicking his tongue, Sionian casually pulled a chair and sat down.
“Now that you’ve heard the explanation, it’s your turn. I’m not good at beating around the bush, so I’ll ask you directly.”
With those words, Sionian raised his hand and touched Leticia’s chest, specifically covering her wound.
Leticia’s cheeks flushed at the touch that she could never get used to. But her body was honest, and as soon as his hand made contact, the bleeding from the wound began to stop.
In that state, Sionian asked in a low voice that sent shivers down her spine.
“Tell me. Who was the person who tried to kill you?”
Leticia couldn’t answer immediately.
“Of course, it must be your stepmother, Jenia Violet, right?”
It was Langry who unexpectedly broke the suffocating silence.
“Because she was the last witness.”
“Did I ask you?”
At Sionian’s stern words, Langry mentally puffed up his cheeks.
“N-No. It’s not Jenia.”
Leticia finally regained her composure and denied. She felt a reluctance to reveal her true situation to foreigners. It was as if she wanted to disappear from embarrassment.
But they saved her. In order for them to not interfere without knowing anything, she had to be honest and reveal everything now.
“The culprit who tried to kill me… is Rianca Snoweider. My husband’s mistress.”
Upon hearing this, Langry exclaimed, ‘That can’t be true.’ On the other hand, Sionian smirked confidently and reached out his hand to Langry.
“Hand it over.”
With a clink, a bag of gold coins was handed over. Seeing this, Leticia was dumbfounded.
“Did you make a bet about me?”
“No? It was about the culprit.”
Sionian corrected, emphasizing that the two were completely different. Of course, that didn’t change Leticia’s hurt feelings.
“If it’s Rianca Snoweider, is she the young lady with blue hair? With rare pink eyes and a face as graceful as a deer?”
Langry, disappointed from losing the bet, asked.
“Yes, that’s right. Do you know Rianca?”
“No, but the messenger seems to have seen her. They said she was crying very sadly at your funeral, right by your husband’s side and had an argument with your stepmother.”
Leticia laughed silently. She was literally stunned.
Even now, her hands trembled and her mind fuzzy, and her heart sank when she thought of Rianca.
‘Why on earth did she stab me?’
She couldn’t understand at all. Aster had already requested a divorce from her. Even if she refused and went to court, it was clear that he would win.
Because she couldn’t bear a child.
In Northland, where women were seen as baby-making machines, it was a sufficient reason. But why did Rianca stab her? Why take the risk of becoming a murderer?
“So, what are you going to do from now on?”
Sionian asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“Are you going back to your husband?”
“To Aster Winchester?”
Unless she was crazy, that would never happen.
“No. There’s a high chance that my husband is also an accomplice.”
Leticia answered bluntly, pushing back the misery that crawled up to her heart.
Even if Aster wasn’t involved in this, he would have wished for her death. That way, he could marry the ‘pure and uncalculating’ Rianca.
‘She may not be calculating, but she’s quick with her hands .’
She had heard that men these days preferred proactive women, but this was a bit extreme. Anyway, being a widower instead of a divorcee, was better for Aster.
‘It’s perfect for pretending to be a victim.’
Being able to avoid the harsh criticism of society for abandoning a devoted wife like a used rag was an added bonus.
“Do you have a place to rely on separately? Someone you know?”
Upon hearing her words of not going back, Sionian asked again.
“…No. No one.”
Leticia weakly lowered her head. At this point, she slightly regretted not dying in the river.
‘That’s not it.’
Why should she have to die? She hadn’t done anything wrong.
Yes. It was those bastards who deserved to die. Leticia was determined to make them pay, no matter what it took.
Since she had nothing else to lose anyway.
“I have no intention of causing trouble. It’s enough that you saved me. As soon as I recover, I will leave. I wish I had something to repay you with… but this is all I have.”
Leticia quietly took off her wedding ring and placed it on the table. The thin platinum ring with a crystal embedded in it looked too shabby to belong to a marquess’ daughter-in-law.
When she received this ring, the Winchester Marquis was still struggling with financial difficulties. Aster had promised her, over and over again, mindful of that fact.
As soon as my business succeeds, I will buy you a very large and expensive ring that anyone would envy.
‘But when he actually succeeded, he bought a necklace for Rianca instead.’
The necklace was incredibly valuable, with a pink diamond embedded in it that looked exactly like Rianca’s eyes. Only then did Leticia realize.
That her husband was a huge asshole.
“…Your eyes have changed.”
Sionian said, not even bothering to look at her wedding ring.
“I know those eyes well.”
