This House Has A Delicious Restaurant - Chapter 7 - Helper (1) - Part 2
I glanced towards the door absentmindedly and made eye contact with Luke, who had just come in with his hair messed up from the wind.
“Luke?”
“Sis? What are you doing here? And Anise is here too!”
“Hi, Luke.”
It seemed that Luke and Anise had become quite close over time. The way Anise reached out to Luke and adjusted his hair looked very affectionate.
At Luke’s question, I pointed to the food and then gestured toward Anise, explaining that we had met by chance.
“Wow, this is fate. I was just thinking of talking to you both about something when I saw you, and now I’m meeting you both at our house!”
“Talking about what?”
Luke seemed so excited that he was holding back from shouting and spoke in a small voice just loud enough for us to hear.
“Don’t be surprised. I’ve got abilities too, just like you guys! And it’s really impressive compared to Moa Ablon’s ability!”
“I see. So you’ve developed the ability to summon a weapon.”
A red mark appeared on Luke’s forehead from the flick I gave him. After getting flicked, Luke pouted but soon naturally took a seat next to Anise. Luke’s mother didn’t seem to mind much.
Luke, looking around to see if there were any other guests, leaned his head forward.
Anise and I exchanged glances for a moment and decided to play along, so we leaned in towards Luke. Soon, the three of us had our heads together in the center of the table.
“Are you curious about my ability?”
“More curious about when you originally had no ability at all, right? It’s extremely rare for abilities to develop later in life… unless you were in a life-threatening situation.”
“Could it be related to the time when Ms. Moa Ablon saved us?”
I didn’t respond to Luke’s comment but looked at Anise, who seemed to be pondering and replied with a question as if she wasn’t sure.
Although the experience was special compared to an ordinary person, Luke didn’t seem to have been in such a critical situation.
“Why are you talking among yourselves? Aren’t you curious about my story?”
“I am. But Luke, when did you develop this ability? Did it appear after that incident?”
“Exactly! I originally had no ability at all, but last night before I went to sleep, my eyes felt ticklish and I had a strange sensation. Then I saw a strange red line.”
“A line?”
Luke nodded vigorously and picked up his fork. He spoke while staring intently at the fork with wide eyes.
“For example, if I keep my eyes open without blinking and focus on one thing, I’ll see a faint red line. When I blink, it disappears. It was so fascinating that I kept staring at a book in the room, and the red line gradually became more pronounced. And when the line became a vivid red…”
Just as Luke’s eyes were about to well up with tears, a hole suddenly appeared in the center of the fork. The fork, unable to maintain its balance due to the sudden hole, bent in half.
Not only was it not folding, but a hole suddenly appeared.
Caught off guard by this surprising fact, I just blinked in response. Luke rubbed his eyes and laughed, clearly feeling the sensation.
“Isn’t it amazing? When the line turns red, it makes a hole in the object. Yesterday, I even made holes in a thick book, and after trying several times, I found out that if I move my eyes left and right while seeing the line, it doesn’t just make holes—it cuts like a knife.”
If Luke’s words were true, it was an incredible ability.
Seeing Luke’s desire for praise, Anise patted his head and told him it was impressive. But it wasn’t something that could be praised as simply impressive.
Anise’s ability to amplify other abilities had attracted Zerdan’s interest… Luke’s ability also seemed like it would catch Zerdan’s eye depending on how it was used. Although I didn’t know the range or power of Luke’s ability, the fact that he could make holes in a thick book without a weapon suggested it could be very effective in harming people.
It could be used for hidden attacks and possibly even ranged attacks depending on the range.
The downside, from what I gathered from Luke’s story, was that he needed to keep his eyes open without blinking.
“How about it, sis? Isn’t it better than your ability? If anything happens, let me know. I’ll help you out!”
“That’s reassuring, Luke. Does your mother know?”
“No! I haven’t told her yet. I was planning to surprise her later! I’m telling you guys first.”
Luke answered Anise’s question. He still held the fork that had been bent in half.
I discreetly hid it and handed him a napkin.
“Luke.”
“Yes?”
“Congratulations on developing such a great ability. But it might be better not to talk about it to others, including your mother. At least until you’re more familiar with using it.”
“Why?”
Seeing Luke’s blank expression, I reluctantly brought the fork and napkin. I wrapped the fork with the napkin so it wasn’t visible and continued.
“Even if you don’t intend to, there might be people who would try to use your ability for bad purposes. Remember the people who kidnapped Anise and us? Your ability might be something they would like, so I’m giving you this advice.”
“Are you saying someone might try to make me kill others?”
“I don’t know. But if I were in their position and knew about your ability, I’d try to use it in some way.”
Luke’s face turned pale at my honest advice.
Even though he was young, Zerdan’s side seemed to have no qualms about using any means to get a useful ability, so I gave him this advice.
Anise, alternating her gaze between us, seemed to be either disappointed or shocked, or perhaps both, and patted Luke’s back.
Her refusal to offer premature comfort suggested that Anise also understood the situation to some extent.
“So, how can I get used to it quickly? You’re both ability users, right…”
“Hmm? Even though you say that, my ability is also new, and I’m still getting used to it.”
“I’m still not good at controlling my ability either… Sorry, Luke.”
Following my calm statement, Anise responded with an apologetic tone. With our contrasting answers, Luke’s shoulders drooped a little more than before.
“For now, practice on your own until it’s manageable. Image training is fine too. I’ll think of some good methods as well. If it doesn’t work out, we can find someone to ask for help.”
“Is there someone to ask for help?”
The thought of Obella crossed my mind.
There is someone reliable and kind. Although, I’m reluctant to introduce him directly because of Terisier.
“There is, but let’s put that on hold. For now, try to improve on your own. I’ll visit here again tomorrow.”
A considerable amount of time had passed since we started eating. When I stood up, Anise promptly went to the cashier.
It seemed like she was talking with Luke’s mother, possibly to split the bill from the previous meal.
“I understand. I’ll try it on my own for now. My eyes are a bit sore, though.”
“Don’t overdo it, Luke.”
“Okay. Thanks!”
I patted Luke’s head and left the restaurant.
Anise suggested buying some personal toiletries, and after purchasing what was needed, we headed to her residence. It was quite a nice place for someone living alone.
“It would have been okay to buy some clothes too…”
“No, there’s no need to waste money. If it’s all right with Anise, I’ll just borrow one set of clothes.”
“All right. Then I’ll prepare some clothes for you to change into after you wash up.”
I saw Anise searching for clothes in her closet. Her bright blonde hair was tied up, and she was carefully selecting clothes while standing on tiptoe, looking quite meticulous.
It would be fine if she just gave me any clothes.
“Are you planning to visit the place you were going to tomorrow?”
I felt a slight flutter of emotion at her kindness, trying hard not to focus on it, and asked her.
As Anise pulled out some clothes for me, she answered.
“Yes. I plan to visit when I have time.”
“Why do you volunteer there? I’m not being sarcastic, just curious.”
“I was an orphan myself.”
