The Villainess' Fate Defying Story - Chapter 19
If she were asked what she was most worried about, she would answer that it was telling Jake to come to the student council room. It was not easy to have a secret conversation with him, who always had someone by his side. And she was Cassandra. If she were seen openly contacting Jake, it could cause trouble.
She was quite irritated by the fact that she had to be so careful when she was the one who had something to say to him. Just before she sat down at the cafeteria, she casually passed by his side and whispered “student council room” quietly.
That was the moment when she felt like she was not a villainess but actually a spy agent. She never wanted to have such a stressful “meeting” again.
She concentrated all her nerves on whether Sirius had heard her or not, but fortunately he was chatting with the Prince next to him. Even so, he had sharp ears, and she intended to be very careful.
If Jake hadn’t noticed because it was too quiet, then she could postpone it until next week. It was Cassandra’s way of thinking that she wanted to get rid of the troublesome things as soon as possible, and she didn’t set a clear deadline.
So it didn’t matter if Jake didn’t come to the student council room at lunchtime. In any case, there would always be a student council meeting on Friday afternoon after school, and there was something to do for the agenda preparation. This was also a troublesome job.
“You’re fast, aren’t you? Talking today after yesterday.”
Should she take that as a compliment? Five minutes later than Cassandra, Jake opened the door of the student council room and muttered that.
Don’t say such careless things without checking the inside of the room first. Fortunately, it was only her, but if other officers had been coming in and out, they would have wondered what was going on.
“It was your request, Jake-sama.”
She wanted to get rid of the trouble as soon as possible and feel relieved.
She hid her true feelings and put on a social smile.
She got up from her chair and quickly put the documents together and left them there.
Because of the incident that happened at the beginning of the week, an emergency meeting was held, and the officers had to run around to ensure strict discipline.
Cassandra, who had a hard time from the moment she became an officer.
It’s very unfortunate for the students who are now having a romantic love affair in this academy, but she had no choice but to ask them to give up as long as Sirius is the executive officer.
The Prince spends his time in the academy, and so do they.
She understood Sirius’s feeling that he can’t let it go too wild.
The problem between men and women is not something that can be confined to that alone.
Being fifteen years old is also a factor that makes him more nervous.
Jake is currently a student who is in a flower garden, but he is smart enough not to mention even a single word of the triplets in his usual conversation.
“So, did anything happen?”
“Yes. When I talked to everyone, they agreed.”
Rita had a rather unhappy face, but she seemed to be telling herself that “this is for Rize’s sake, Rize’s sake”.
Cassandra didn’t talk directly to Rita and Rina, but asked Rize, who had a fervent request, to persuade them.
Cassandra gave up on imagining what kind of persuasion Rize had tried.
Rina didn’t seem interested in Jake, but she didn’t make a bad face and accepted it. She was kind enough not to complain about Jake’s selfishness, a true angel.
Then he brightened up his face. His smile, which did not reveal any underlying emotions, was certainly dazzling. She was somewhat flustered because she did not expect to see such a face from him as Cassandra.
“I see, you’re quick at work!”
“I’m sorry for the trouble.”
It was indeed difficult to arrange something that he asked for the day before, the next day. If she had asked them to make plans on such a short notice, they would have scolded her for taking them lightly. In that sense, she was impressed that Miss Daisy accepted the invitation at the last minute. The young ladies of nobility are busy with their schedules even on holidays.
“I’m sorry for the sudden talk, Jake-sama.
How about next Sunday?”
“…Really fast, isn’t it? It’s the day after tomorrow.”
“Yes, good deeds should be done quickly.”
It was a fact that she got information from Jake and made a deal with him.
Even if that information was of no use to her as Cassandra, she had to fulfill what she promised. She could not help but feel a tremendous sense of unfairness, but there was no other way.
And besides, one way or another, it was a good opportunity for Rize. Now she would meet with Rita together, but if things went well, she might be able to meet Jake directly next time. No, honestly it was a bit bad to meet him in person at this early stage of the schedule…
It’s not the time to talk about holiday dates.
But rather than being forced to polish herself as an outsider, being able to talk with Jake individually would raise Rize’s motivation more. That’s what she told herself. The die had already been cast.
“Do you know that there is an area in the royal capital’s large square where you can overlook the lake?**
The three of them are planning to go there the day after tomorrow.
How about you happen to pass by there as Jake-sama?”
“Hmm, I see?”
He nodded. His bright red hair that burned like fire swayed above him. It was a truly brilliant color.
“The square, huh? Got it.”
It would be strange to invite him to Cassandra’s residence, and Jake’s residence was out of the question. Opening the student council room on a day off was also quite risky. She thought about using the dormitory lounge, but no matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t escape the curiosity of the other students. And meeting at a fashionable cafe was also troublesome if she was seen by an acquaintance.
First of all, why did she have to make a situation with the triplets like a harem date? She didn’t owe him that much. So she decided to make it look like Jake happened to pass by the public space where the triplets were. This way, she didn’t need to prepare anything special or make a reservation. It was an environment where they could easily leave if they felt uncomfortable or if one of the triplets wanted to go home. Even if they were seen by the academy students, it wouldn’t be unnatural for classmates to have a conversation in the plaza. The external factors that could affect them were a problem, but it was just a way to start a conversation.
Cassandra didn’t feel the need to think about what happened during that time. She wasn’t an old lady who set up arranged marriages in the neighborhood.
“Of course, you won’t be there, right? You’re not going to follow us, are you?”
“… That’s what I have in mind.”
As she said before, Cassandra was not their guardian or anything. She was just a close classmate. And she and Jake himself were supposed to be enemies and should not have any contact. As long as she set up the place, Cassandra didn’t need to be present. Rather, Jake would find her annoying.
She didn’t plan to interfere or support them actively. She felt like punching him in the stomach when he treated her like an obstacle face to face, he was really a cocky guy.
“The time is around two o’clock in the afternoon. It would be strange to stay in one place for a long time with the three of them, so please carefully choose the right moment to talk to them.”
Jake was a sensible boy who knew how to time things well. He could easily talk to the girls who were having a friendly conversation among themselves at a suitable time. He had already obtained their consent beforehand, Cassandra couldn’t take responsibility if he wasn’t satisfied with the outcome.
“Ah, thanks a lot. …Well then, as a reward from me, here’s one more thing. Arthur likes looking at the starry sky, you know. I also learned that for the first time after I moved into the dormitory.”
“Ah, thank you so much.
That’s precious information, I’m grateful for your care, Jake-sama.”
She lightly smiled with her hand on her cheek, but Cassandra’s mind was a huge commotion with crackers and drums.
She didn’t ask why he liked the starry sky, but that was enough!
The starry sky, wonderful! Romantic!
It was also more than enough in terms of something that anyone could appreciate.
She would have been troubled if he suddenly said that mountain climbing was his hobby.
She gained one more piece of information about the Prince…!
Now Jake’s existence looked three times brighter than usual.
It was a precious moment when she felt truly grateful to Jake after reincarnating in this world.
Of course, he must have remembered and realized it yesterday.
I see, it was only after Cassandra brought him a satisfactory story that he agreed to the “deal”.
She decided to apologize in her heart for thinking that he was a simple-minded brute.
…
As soon as the afternoon lessons were over, only the student council officer conference remained.
To be honest, if she wasn’t the Prince’s fiancee, she would question who would accept such a bothersome role that involved needless work.
This academy was a meeting for the offspring of nobles, for those who would make a significant contribution to the kingdom.
But that was only a secondary purpose.
The main thing was, it was an educational institution founded for the peak of the king’s education, where the royal family would enroll, guide, and rule the children of the lords without any problem.
It would be alright to say that the academy existed only for that reason.
The teachers probably believed that an academy without a royal member was not an academy at all.
But Cassandra fervently hoped to experience that tranquil era at least once.
Along with the bell that indicated the end of the lesson, the students who had been calmly sitting in their seats all rose up at once.
And around Prince Arthur, who had been diligently listening to the lesson in the front row, female students flocked in a hurry.
It was like ants crowding over sugar candy, or bees attracted to flower nectar…
Everyone understood that the Prince had student council work to do.
When he began to move silently, the crowd trailed him like a parade of feudal lords and vanished from the roomy room.
And in the corridor, students from other classes and grades also poured in, creating a big commotion.
It was only due to an unspoken rule that no one could obstruct the Prince’s movement that it was permitted, and while he halted and replied to conversations, it transformed into a scene where showers of light poured down on him.
It was amazing that they were so organized, but Cassandra felt complicated seeing that every day.
She wondered if she was actually less than them.
How many times did they have the chance to talk to him face to face? No, how many times would they have it from now on?
“Really, they are troublesome, aren’t they?
Cassandra-sama, wouldn’t it be alright to warn them once…?
They need some restraint, don’t they?”
The one who showed indignation as if it was her own matter was Miss Daisy.
They acted as if they could stick close to him without any warning, even though there was a formal fiancee named Cassandra.
She had also heard a story that a scholarship student from another class leaned on the Prince once.
“Daisy-san, you should refrain from such words.
The Prince is forgiving them, I’m not in a position to order them around.”
When she thought about whether the Prince was actually troubled or not, she really couldn’t read his expression.
If he looked at her even briefly and showed a troubled face, Cassandra wouldn’t hesitate to act.
But he always had the same attitude, a standard thing of the royal quality to treat everyone equally with a smile.
He might have something to gain from interacting with the ladies in his own way.
Would the Prince really appreciate it if Cassandra eagerly chased away the ladies without being asked by him?
And the ladies also respected her and withdrew quickly if Cassandra was by his side.
She might have to warn them with a word if they got too clingy in front of her, but they all knew their limits.
She also thought that it was a difficult position to be in.
She waved her hand at Daisy and left the lecture room, saying goodbye.
The hallway leading to the student council room was crowded with people around the Prince and Ralph and others, and she didn’t feel any courage to pass by them.
She would be troubled if they made a fuss around her and told her to go ahead with the Prince alone.
Maybe Ralph and Sirius who were nearby would glare at her with criticism, saying that she was a cold and narrow-minded queen candidate from another house.
They would take it badly as if Cassandra had driven them away out of jealousy.
She could easily imagine that scene.
Even the spontaneous actions of others that she didn’t ask for would give them a negative impression of her.
What a terrible filter they had.
She tightened her grip on the bag she was holding, and turned right to head to the student council room from the opposite side.
It was important to avoid the risk prediction.
“You are truly tolerant, Cassandra-sama.”
The one who spoke to her like that was Rize.
Next to her were Rina and Rita.
She added that she had already informed them about Sunday along with the greeting, and they showed three different reactions.
She thought that anyone who could say they were ‘the same’ after seeing their completely different behaviors definitely had a hole in their eyes.
Rize looked at the glittering noblemen moving to the end of the hallway and sighed again, “You are so tolerant.”
She probably wanted to say something like scolding them to stay away from the Prince, like Miss Daisy.
“Aren’t you the same, Rize-san?
Aren’t there only male students by his side?” (That is what it says in the original text, I am as puzzled as you. The author probably was on autopilot and wrote it like this instead of girls.)
“Huh? If I were his girlfriend, I would kick away the girls who swarm around him without question.”
She couldn’t say anything back to Rize’s casual and extreme remark, and unconsciously raised the corners of her mouth.
“Even now, I wish the families of the students who are by Jake-sama’s side would go bankrupt.”
“Rize. Your words are too much!”
Rina scolded her with a sigh. Rize’s way of speaking without any remorse was rather refreshing.
Rina was also treated as one of the triplets, but she seemed to be quite reluctant about it.
“But isn’t the Prince lonely?”
Rita tilted her head and threw a bomb that exceeded Cassandra’s understanding.
“I mean, wouldn’t you feel lonely if your fiancee didn’t care or get jealous even if you talked to other women?
If it were me, I might want him to be a little jealous!
Maybe I would be shocked like ‘Are you not interested in me!?'”
She made a gap with her thumb and index finger while saying “a little”.
“Ah, I get it, that’s it!
I want to hear him say ‘Don’t touch my woman’ at least once in my life.”
“Haha, Rize is suddenly girly, huh? You wouldn’t say such a line before.”
“Shut up!”
Rize tried to poke her sister with the bag she was holding, but Rita avoided it lightly with her innate reflexes.
“You two, Cassandra-sama and the Prince are not mere lovers, you know?
They are fiancés who have obtained approval from the country and everyone’s endorsement!
It’s very impolite to compare them with our common sense as normal people.
The future queen wouldn’t mind about such gossip in this academy, right?”
…As she watched Rina earnestly scold them, a tempest was surging in Cassandra’s heart.
No…
She wasn’t pleased about it either.
She also felt uneasy.
But if she attempted to meddle and disturb the situation here,
she might be regarded as irritating by the Prince for acting like a bride when it was just an agreement between their parents!
The Prince surely didn’t think he was lonesome, right!?
Or perhaps, could it be…
He was silently upset at his fiancee for abandoning him in this state…?
She couldn’t question him, what kind of face should she make.
She might be disliked for being too self-aware…
Rina’s words changed into knives and were pushed before her eyes.
An unavoidable reality.
She had no time to poke her nose into other people’s love matters.
