The Villainess Captured The Grand Duke - Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Scheuer had never expected any loyalty or affection from them. After all, she would return to the North, and they would remain in the Central. “Just not lying is enough,” she thought.
Searching through the people exchanging greetings, Scheuer, with her keen eyes, eventually found Sevi. The silver hair that was visible just a moment ago had disappeared.
When a light voice from behind said,
“Looking for me?”
Scheuer’s startled shoulder triggered a dull pain around her shoulder.
“Ouch, I bit my tongue!”
Turning around, she found Sevi covering his mouth, frowning with one eye slightly squinted. His long hair and embroidered attire made him look even more noble. There was a certain distance in his gaze and behavior.
In an attempt to appear sunny, she greeted him,
“May the blessing of the goddess be with you. I am honored to meet Grand Steward Sevi.”
Sevi, still holding his injured tongue, responded with a restrained nod, showing no more than the tip of his tongue.
The timing couldn’t have been better. Scheuer chose a suitable topic for conversation first.
“I would like to ask about the wedding date. Could you spare a moment?”
Despite the polite request, Sevi’s expression seemed somewhat uncomfortable. The time spent pondering about a topic that would not raise suspicion was futile. He made a slight gesture and replied,
“I’ve been looking for you. Apologies, but could you come after I have white hair?”
“No, it’s not that. I wanted to inquire about the wedding date…”
Before Scheuer could finish, Sevi just tilted his head slightly.
“Hah, alright… Why did the goddess favor me with this predicament? Marriage should be something agreed upon by both parties, you understand?”
“Agreed?”
“When did I agree to it?”
He was actually questioning her. Scheuer, facing this uncooperative Sevi, pondered seriously. ‘Do I really have to get the date from the temple…?’ The trust in the temple was fading. After all, conversations were meant to be between people. Like living organisms. Like a cactus or a goldfish.
Scheuer’s physical distance from Sevi became more apparent thanks to their conversation. She couldn’t believe he was the Grand Steward, even if they had chosen him solely based on his face. With the current atmosphere, leading a conversation to the second slab seemed impossible. Scheuer quickly gave up.
“No, it’s okay. I’ll find a way without involving the temple.”
As she said this, a large shadow loomed over her. Silk-like silver hair shimmered as it tickled her cheek. When she looked up, Sevi was silently gazing down at her. His incessant babbling had stopped, and something about his presence was overwhelming.
Concerned that she might have said something wrong, Scheuer cautiously probed him. When she looked closely, his expression was notably different. His embroidered attire, radiant golden embroidery on the white steward’s robe, and his fair skin and silver hair seemed to emit a mysterious, sacred aura.
In this dull hall, he stood out more than anyone. Even more dazzling than the other attendants. There was something ethereal about him, almost like a pristine flower in the desolate surroundings.
‘Fits surprisingly well, huh?’ Maybe it was his dazzling features. Without any particular reason, Scheuer stared at Sevi, and their gazes met head-on. Sevi’s mouth curved into a small grin, and a prominent dot on his cheek was quite noticeable.
He placed one hand on his chest and raised the other, creating a glow around him. Sevi’s greeting was so radiant that it seemed like an afterglow. Scheuer found herself captivated. This was the moment where the divine nature of a deity was most evident.
“Right. Instead of burdening the temple, handle it yourself. You, who lives in the present.”
His words resonated deeply with Scheuer. Changing the future might not stop the predetermined events from unfolding, but at least they would turn the pages themselves.
“Why did the goddess favor me with this predicament? Marriage should be something agreed upon by both parties, you understand?”
“Agreed?”
“When did I agree to it?”
Sevi seemed to be questioning her, and Scheuer took a moment to ponder. ‘I would have refused the ending, and led him to keep turning the pages.’
Uncertainty lingered in Scheuer’s mind. ‘He is right about one thing. Marriage should be a mutual agreement. I’ll find a way to handle it without the temple.’
Sevi’s words echoed with a certain resonance. The present, this very moment, gained new significance. Scheuer, with a bright smile, clasped her hands together.
“As expected of the Grand Steward! You’ve been looking far ahead!”
Sevi swept his hair back with an annoyed expression.
“Everyone comes to me with trivial matters. They tell me to do this, do that. Did I become the Grand Steward to do as others say? No, I did it because they told me to.”
“Can I do as I wish then?”
“Sure!”
Sevi replied enthusiastically. The answer provided a boost of confidence to move forward. Scheuer wanted to share this joy with Raygrain immediately.
However, a large shadow cast by a deputy attendant was approaching Sevi.
“You can’t.”
The firm response was unexpected, but Sevi showed no sign of surprise. The deputy attendant came closer, almost bringing his face right in front of Sevi’s, and said,
“Don’t use your divine power to enhance your appearance.”
Sevi, unbothered, murmured with a bit of mischief,
“Don’t they say showing off is a virtue?”
“I’ve never heard that before.”
The man courteously gestured to Scheuer, almost seeking her understanding.
“Sevi, I am Koa, the attendant assigned to assist you. What’s going on?”
Sevi responded rather than Scheuer,
“Another young lady who’s given her heart to me has emerged.”
Scheuer, looking serious, countered his statement,
“I’m already married.”
“Alright, that happens sometimes.”
“I have black hair and am facing 10:10. I don’t give a definite answer when asked to be with someone, but if they draw a sword, I prefer someone who hands me a bouquet instead.”
Sevi, watching her quickly speak, chuckled and said,
“You’re the type who can’t be honest, huh? You’re saying everything opposite of what my appearance implies.”
Shrugging his shoulders, Sevi tilted his head and grinned. Scheuer felt an urgent desire to bring Raygrain right away, shouting,
“This person is legally married to me!”
Fortunately, Koa beside Sevu was a reasonable person.
“Sevi has always had strong self-love. I apologize on his behalf.”
“Not at all! Koa, this lady asked me to marry her.”
“Perhaps you wanted to know the date of the wedding.”
“Confident without even seeing it.”
“I don’t need to see it.”
Every time Koa spoke, he deeply bowed his head. It seemed as if his head might touch the ground. Should she raise him?
Scheuer hesitated but awkwardly reached out her arm. As she did, Sevi’s large hand enveloped her small shoulder.
“No need to bow,”
Regrain’s voice, lower than usual, echoed in her ears.
Scheuer’s posture straightened involuntarily.
“Smile Love”
