The Queen of Villains - Chapter 14 part 1
The atmosphere of the mansion quickly sank the next day because Emily was not in a good mood.
Killian ‘s mood is usually unpredictable or bad, so his mood doesn’t really affect the atmosphere of the mansion. Therefore, it was clear that the reason everyone in the mansion was uneasy was because Emily was upset.
“Emily, are you okay?”
Johann , who was the cause of this incident, grabbed Emily’s arm and asked, concern evident in his voice.
“Yes, what?”
“My uncle upset you.”
Honestly, when Johann first orchestrated this, he wanted to stir up Killian ‘s anger by having him see Emily and the prince together. So Killian getting mad at Emily or the two of them fighting was an unexpected development.
‘Stupid uncle, what is he doing so tactlessly?’
Johann, without even thinking about the fact that he caused the problem, turned his anger towards Killian , who had brought the situation to this point.
“Johann.”
While he was cursing Killian in his mind, Emily grabbed Johann’s shoulder with a serious face and asked,
“Did anyone say in front of you that I had a fight with the Marquis?”
“What? Uh, no.”
He couldn’t possibly say that he had been hiding and listening all along. He felt like he wanted to stand up when Killian said something mean to Emily. But if he stepped forward, he was afraid he would forever be branded a bad kid in Emily’s eyes.
“It’s just the atmosphere… It seemed like you two were fighting.”
“I’m really sorry. It’s not right for you to be exposed to that at such a young age.”
Johann felt his conscience pricking for the first time in his seven-year-old life.
“Don’t worry about me.”
But Johann still didn’t have the courage to tell the truth. In his anxious and impatient state, he scratched his head for no reason and said,
“Should we stop practicing for today?”
“Thanks for being considerate. When things get resolved, I’ll practice hard again.”
Emily looked at Johann with affection and gently stroked his head.
With the practice time she had set aside for Johann gone, she now had some free time. Emily called the butler to her personal study to find the culprit.
“Alvin, did you find out when Prince Lucius sent the letter?”
“Yes, I asked the administrator in charge of mail at the royal court, and they said the letters from the prince’s palace were processed a week ago.”
“How long does it usually take for the delivery?”
“They say it arrives within 2 to 3 days, so it would have been delivered about five days ago if it was the letter handled a week ago.”
“Do you know who the maid was?”
Alvin nodded confidently.
“It’s Chili. She’s been bringing the letters up for the past week.”
“Then bring her here right away.”
“Yes, Madam.”
Not long after, Chili, who had been summoned by Alvin, arrived at the study.
“Madam, did you call for me?”
Ever since the chilly wind blew through the mansion, she had a hunch that she was somehow involved. Chili, who had made a big mistake for the first time in her Mafia life, couldn’t stop her hands from sweating.
“It’s nothing special. I just have a few questions to ask.”
“Please ask, Madam.”
“Did you happen to have any letters from His Highness, the Crown Prince, among the letters you brought to me in the past week?”
“Well… I’m not sure because I didn’t check the recipient of the letters.”
“You didn’t check the recipient?”
No wonder she had received promotional letters and junk mail. It seemed strange. Normally, in noble families, letters were sorted and reported according to their importance. Seeing Emily’s puzzled expression, Alvin stepped forward to explain.
“We usually only check that there are no explosives or hazardous materials when mail arrives. Chili, in particular, is an expert at removing explosives.”
Chili added further explanation.
“I didn’t know if it was okay to check the recipient. Lord Killian dislikes having his privacy exposed, so I try to be especially careful about respecting your privacy while serving the two of you.”
In that case, it was uncertain how to confirm whether the prince’s letter had arrived safely.
Chili wanted to say something to comfort Emily but hesitated. A few days ago, Killian had summoned some of the servants for a special order.
“If there is anything to do with Johann, report it directly to me, not to the madam.”
“Understood, Your Lordship.”
Since entering this Mafia den, the only person Emily felt comfortable with was Johann . He didn’t like that it was Johann , of all people, but he couldn’t take away that refuge from Emily.
So Killian made sure that Emily wouldn’t see Johann ‘s bad side as much as possible.
“There’s nothing else . You may leave now.”
“Yes, Madam.”
As soon as Chili came out of Emily’s room, she hurriedly ran to Giovanni.
“Giovanni, may I speak to you? Do you have time?”
Giovanni was in a highly stressed state these days because of Killian ‘s constantly changing mood. To others, Killian always had the same expressionless face, but as his closest aide working closely with him, Giovanni was directly hit by the turbulent atmosphere emanating from him.
“What’s the matter? Is it something important?”
“Yes, it’s about Madam.”
Giovanni abruptly stood up at the mention of Madam.
“Did something happen to Madam?”
“That’s not it… “
Chili relayed the story of Johann intercepting the letter a few days ago. After hearing the story, Giovanni rubbed his forehead and exclaimed.
“You know what kind of person Johann is, but you got tricked like that!”
“I’m really ashamed of myself”
‘Ugh, that little brat.’
Chili resolved not to have any more conversations with Johann in the future.
