She Is a Daughter Raised As the Son of a Duke - Side Story Episode 5
Side Story Episode 5
After Milo tasting the lip balm on her lips, May began to find herself constantly conscious of him. Whenever she sneakily glanced at him, Milo never missed the chance to respond with a playful smile.
In the past, she might have brushed it off no matter how obvious his affections were. But now, she couldn’t ignore him. Ironically, each time she tried to downplay her reactions, she ended up feeling awkward and unsure of how to handle it.
With his tall stature and handsome appearance, his strength without arrogance, and his refined consideration for others, Milo was undoubtedly an attractive man in anyone’s eyes.
As May’s gaze met Milo’s, he approached with a smirk at the corner of his lips.
“Lately, it seems like you’ve been looking at me often, My Lady. It makes me happy.”
“T-That’s not what’s happening.”
Caught off guard, May blurted out a lie. Being so conscious of Milo herself, she could sense that he knew it was a lie too. However, Milo intentionally revealed a slight pained expression.
“If that’s the case, it hurts me deeply. Do you know how heartbroken I would be if it seemed like you were oblivious? Even if it doesn’t seem that way, I am still a man.”
He did this in the hope that she would be even more aware of him.
“I want to appear even more manly to you than anyone else, My Lady.”
Seeing the smile on his lips, May realized that Milo was deliberately trying to shake her feelings.
While doing so, he suddenly grew serious and tightly held her hand.
“You have no idea how much I desire you… My Lady.”
Feeling his gaze constantly on her might make her lose her composure, so May averted her eyes.
Milo intertwined his fingers with hers and squeezed her pinky finger.
Every action of his felt like a temptation, so enticing that May, who hadn’t recognized his charms until now, couldn’t resist.
Soon, she thought it would be immature to hide her feelings, so she decided to be honest.
‘…Honestly, it would be a lie to say I’m not conscious of it.”’
How can I not be conscious when you’re being so assertive in approaching me?
Lifting her head as if she had nothing to hide, she met his gaze.
“But… we need to consider the practicalities. We both come from families with responsibilities. How could we marry?”
May was genuinely worried, but Milo was simply delighted.
“Did you consider marrying me?”
With a smile in his eyes, he resembled a cunning and innocent fox.
“No, you were the one who…”
“If I were to become your companion, Stella has promised to take care of Nazret.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely.”
It seemed Stella had recently taken an interest in the family affairs as well.
“So you can consider that there are no practical issues preventing your marriage with me.”
Milo smiled and brushed May’s long hair behind her ear.
“Of course, it all depends on Lady’s choice.”
Back home, May sat on the rocking chair and took out a seashell that she had received as a gift long ago on the Lulart Beach.
It was a gift she received from him when she first met Milo.
“At that time, I thought he was a cold but warm-hearted boy.”
His expression was cold, and his voice was chilly, but his actions were warm.
He had immediately handed her the seashell, saying it was pretty.
“A shell as beautiful as this…”
A pastel-colored shell with shades of pink, purple, and sky blue. Upon closer look, it shimmered with a dazzling light. Its shimmer wouldn’t fade even after a long time.
Milo still remained cold when not smiling, but when he did, he became incredibly warm. That was one of Milo’s charms, making it hard not to like him.
“The reasons I can’t dislike him…?”
“The reasons I can’t dislike him. If I think like that, does it mean I can’t dislike him either?”
“Could I possibly… like Milo?”
As she thought about it, her heart began to beat so fast that she could almost hear it. If she did like Milo, it meant she was attracted to someone again after a very long time.
A few days later, when May met Milo again in the knight’s order, she was certain about one thing.
At the very least, she was attracted to him.
Seemingly aware of May’s feelings, Milo approached with a smile in his eyes as soon as he spotted her and delivered a decisive move. Facing her, he kissed the back of her hand.
“Please give me a chance, Lady.”
Startled by the unexpected hand kiss, Mayei’s face quickly turned red. She responded with a shy smile.
“I think I’ve already given plenty of chances, haven’t I?”
Her voice quivered slightly as Milo gently chuckled and held her hand, looking at her with an affectionate gaze.
“Then, I’ll consider this a chance too.”
Without hesitation, he leaned in and kissed her on the lips.

By the time the story of Miracagon had ended, the warm tea had already turned cold.
“If Diego and Jed didn’t like May, they wouldn’t have ended up dating and getting married like this. However, just like Jed’s story, it’s an unrealistic tale for the present.”
Yet, just like after reading a romance novel, Iris and Cassius were left with a strong impression.
“If Diego’s story is realistic, then Jed’s story is tragic, and Milo’s story can be seen as idealistic. Realistic love brings about conflicts, while idealistic love doesn’t lose its freshness. Honestly, if it weren’t someone’s story but the content of a romance novel, I might have preferred Milo’s story.”
Cassius also nodded in agreement.
“I feel the same way. Four years is too long.”
Not being able to meet or exchange letters with the person you love for four years. No one would wish for such a situation.
“No one would want their feelings to drift apart while in a relationship.”
“Perhaps, when May hears these three stories, she might regret her love for Diego a little.”
While there was a teasing aspect to Iris’s words, Cassius, as well as Miracagon, expected similar sentiments.
“But even if she listens, I don’t think her feelings for the person she loves will change. Waiting for four years and reuniting… that shows she must love him a lot.”
Unless you’re an eternal guardian deity, four years was a very long time for mortal humans, especially considering that they would eventually die.
“I also think the same way.”
With Miracagon’s words, Cassius stood up from the sofa and stretched. After listening to May’s story along with the three men for a couple of hours in the same position, his body felt stiff.
“Well, now that our curiosity is satisfied, I guess we should return Miracagon to where he belongs.”
Miracagon seemed to be tired from talking non-stop, as he slumped his shoulders as if to say he was worn out.
“Please send me back home soon, guardian deity. Even demons have limits to their stamina.”
“I understand, so don’t rush me.”
Iris waved her hand nonchalantly.
“Take care.”
As Cassius held onto Miracagon, they disappeared in an instant from where they stood.

A while later, it was the regular hunting day for the Guardian Knights.
The meeting place was the Paint Park Station. Perhaps because it was winter, knights were gathering on the platform, and their breaths were visible in the cold air.
When May arrived at the station, her heart raced at the thought of seeing Diego.
“Don’t get nervous and make it awkward by showing that you’re nervous.”
It was right after Isabella’s birthday party. Today was their first meeting since they kissed by the lakeside.
That kiss on that day had been impulsive. To put it irresponsibly, one could say they were carried away by the atmosphere.
“The falling snow is beautiful.”
However, on the platform where she arrived, there was a man even more beautiful than the pure white snow.
Although he had already spotted May, Diego Stacia was standing at a distance, unable to approach due to shyness, watching her with a sidelong glance.
When their eyes met, May momentarily saw his face overlapping with the scene of their kiss. She was taken aback for a moment, but then casually approached him as if nothing had happened.
As she got closer, the chilly wind that touched her cheeks didn’t even register in her heart, brimming with excitement.
“You came early.”
A girl with short hair came up to her and asked. The young man titled the “Clumsy Prince” turned his gaze away, nodding his head. Whether it was due to the cold or embarrassment, his ears turned red.
“Why aren’t you looking at me?”
In response to the teasing question, Diego could hardly say, “We’ve kissed before,” so he just ruffled his hair.
Seeing him like that, May couldn’t help but laugh. Somehow, she wanted to tease him even more.
“It’s not like we agreed to date right after the kiss, so you weren’t sulking, were you? Oh, could it be that you’re still sulking?”
“How, how could I!”
He denied sulking, but his voice inadvertently rose. Only then did Diego meet May’s blue eyes. Seeing her looking pleased, he felt strangely deflated.
“…Of course, I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t receive even a single letter.”
“We’re dating, you know.”
The sudden confession seemed to leave Diego breathless.
“To date?”
“Yes.”
How long had he been hoping to hear those words? After the kiss, Diego actually couldn’t sleep from excitement.
“To finally be dating May…!”
But caught up in his happiness, he couldn’t regain his composure. Just then, his colleagues crowded around and took May away.
“Lady May! We need to catch the train!”
“Right. Since it’s cold, let’s get in quickly.”
Even when Mayboarded the train with her colleagues, Diego remained in his spot, smiling contentedly.
Iris, who had been watching May, felt satisfied.
“Before, Maydidn’t seem to fit in well with the team, but it’s a relief to see her getting along now.”
“Yeah, seeing her so cheerful is nice.”
Cassius turned his gaze to Diego, who was standing alone.
“An ending like this seems fine too. It’s a bit poignant when you think about what will happen next, but in the end, it’s a happy ending.”
A guardian knight soon led Diego onto the train, saying that it was about to depart. Iris and Cassius were also observing this scene.
“Yeah, as long as May is happy, that’s what matters. I’ll support her no matter what path she takes.”
“I’m thinking the same.”
Lastly, Iris and Cassius boarded the train as well. The train was filled with the lively conversations and laughter of the knights along with May.
Not long after, the train’s doors closed, and it began to move toward the next station.
