Precautions of a Snakepit - Chapter 92
Won had no intention of moving in with Top Dog for several reasons, most of which were his personality.
If she could have solitary confinement during a mission, she would take it.
If she had to sleep with three people and there was only a double and single bed, she would take the single bed.
She liked being alone. She felt uncomfortable with others around her.
A house is a place to relax. Everyone needs to be able to be comfortable. So naturally, she hadn’t considered living with this man at all…
“Pretty’ let’s make a bet. If you don’t c*m from this, hah… we won’t live together, but if you do, how about we live together?”
“Such a bet, ah, what are you…”
“Are you not confident? Do you think you’ll c*m from just this? No way. No matter how sensitive my pretty girl’s body is…”
The problem was that she had fallen for his taunt.
He won the bet, packed up his things, and though it really wasn’t her home, and just a temporary place to stay, Won wasn’t pleased.
‘I hate this.’
Won ran a hand through her hair in frustration, not sure if it was directed at the unwelcome intruder or herself for losing the bet.
After taking a look around the house, Top Dog returned to the living room and set down the suitcase he was carrying, keeping the wheels off the floor the entire time. When he started unpacking, the contents spilled out. Won was a little tired from everything that happened, but as she continued to watch him, she realized that it was more than only a few clothes.
‘No way…’
Won nervously started to check his luggage.
“This is all your luggage, right?”
“No. These are the things I need right now, and the rest will be delivered separately.”
The retort rose to the top of her throat, but she kept it in. He’s going to be gone for a month at most, and she can’t believe he brought all this stuff.
Now that she thought about it, it was her fault he got hurt, but it wasn’t entirely her fault that it opened up again after it was stitched. Why should she be responsible for that too?
She was filled with doubt.
“What did you have for breakfast and lunch?” Top Dog randomly asked.
Won stood still and tried to remember. After waking up, she drank a cup of warm water, ate one of the eggs she boiled yesterday, and did some warm-up exercises. Then, she tried to eat the salad she ordered for delivery, but she had no appetite for it, so she put it in the fridge and ate a handful of almonds from an airtight container she left on the kitchen table instead…
‘You’re not going to like it if I tell you the truth.’
She decided to dodge.
“Just something.”
“So you didn’t eat much at all?”
Won was left speechless by his conclusion.
‘Who gave him the ability to read minds?’
“Can I look in the fridge?”
With that, Top Dog was already moving toward the fridge, as if asking her permission was an act of courtesy only. She let it go. He’s going to be living with her for a while anyway, she can’t prevent him from going in the fridge.
She heard the distinctive sound of the door being pulled away from the rubber lining of the fridge, and she froze as she remembered what the interior looked like.
Sure enough, Top Dog, frozen in place by the refrigerator door, slowly turned to face her.
“Honey b*by darling sweetheart, how come there’s only a single salad bowl in the fridge of a house for humans?”
Won was silent as Top Dog questioned her. She felt like he was scolding her, but she couldn’t argue back. It’s hard to resist the universal perception that anyone who can’t feed themselves is pathetic, even though they haven’t committed a sin or harmed anyone else.
“Is it possible that my honey sweetheart b*by darling is actually a fairy and doesn’t even drink water? Why don’t you even have water?”
“The water is room temperature.”
Won, who had been looking away in fear of being scolded, answered confidently. She doesn’t like cold water, so she doesn’t keep it in the fridge.
Top Dog gave her a questioning look.
“Is having water something to be so proud of?”
Won quickly looked away from his gaze.
“It’s okay. It’s about what I expected.”
Top Dog muttered something unintelligible to himself and began rummaging around the kitchen without asking permission. As he opened cabinets, lower shelves, and every other storage space, a frustrated voice came out.
“How come you don’t even have any salt?”
“Because I don’t like salty things…”
Won regretted her excuse. It sounded lame, even to herself.
“What about sugar?”
“I don’t have a sweet tooth…”
“Chili powder?”
“I’m not a fan of spicy…”
“Cooking oil?”
“I don’t like fatty things…”
She knew it was a bad answer, but she couldn’t stop herself. If she didn’t do this, she’d be labeled as incapable.
“I’m not asking for oyster sauce, chicken stock, sesame oil, pepperoncini, or butter, but not even basic condiments? You’re kidding me.”
After mumbling a curse, Top Dog walked right past Won and went to the living room. He didn’t even go through the living, he went to the front door and put on his shoes.
“I’ll be right back.”
Without looking back, he opened the front door and walked out. Alone in the house, Won thought to herself for a moment.
‘Should I change the door lock?’
It was tempting to just away all responsibility and move out.
‘I’m already tired. Is living together going to work?’
She wasn’t sure.
She anxiously looked at the suitcase that was left wide open in the middle of the living room. It looked so much like its owner that it felt so at home in its place.
‘Where did he go, anyway?’
He just said he would be back, but he didn’t say from where.
Since they were talking about food, Won guessed it was the grocery store.
‘But does he even know where it is?’
He’s not a kid, he’s a grown man and he can find it. He can just search for it on the internet and it will tell him the shortest route.
After sitting on the couch for a while, an unfamiliar melody echoed through the deserted apartment. Won approached the wall pad and saw Top Dog gently waving at her on the screen.
Without thinking, she pressed the open door button and a few seconds later, heard the doorbell ring for the front door. She languidly opened it to see Top Dog holding grocery bags in each hand.
“Ugh, it’s about to get cold. If you go outside, make sure you wear a coat, got it?”
He rushed in, dropped the groceries on the table, grabbed a change of clothes, and went into the bathroom to wash up. Curious, Won opened the bags to see they were filled with all sorts of spices, oils, sauces, and other condiments. There was even a bottle of laundry detergent.
‘But what is he supposed to do with all this? I don’t have any other ingredients.’
As she was wondering, she heard the melody play again at the front door. She checked the wall pad and saw a strange man on the screen.
“Who are you?”
“Hi. Delivery from XX Mart.”
Won carefully examined the man on the screen. He looked like someone who had come to deliver something, but she hadn’t ordered anything from that store.
‘Could this be from a hostile organization…?’
Had her temporary residence been compromised?
There was no shortage of grudges held against her, and there would be no shortage of people to act on those grudges.
‘Should I open the door? Or, since they found the temporary home anyway, I can let them in here and deal with it…’
While she was in the middle of her deliberations, Top Dog emerged from the restroom and pressed the open button without hesitation.
“I did it.”
Won relaxed.
“When?”
“Yesterday, right after I was given the address. I had a feeling my sweetheart honey bear wouldn’t have any food in the house.”
Unwiped moisture trickled down his chin. Won stared at his near-n*ked body. The bandages around his upper body were getting w*t.
“… I don’t like it when you get water in your wounds, so quickly clean them up. Stop calling me those crazy nicknames, too while I’m being nice.”
“Hah, my love, it’s so exciting to think of all the bad things you’ll say to me when I call you honey b*by darling pretty love sweetheart. What are you going to say to me?”
‘He’s insane.’
To Won’s disgust, Top Dog chuckled and went back to the restroom. When he returned a few minutes later, dressed, he went to the front door at the sound of the doorbell and returned with bags in his hands. Won didn’t need to open it to realize there were all kinds of ingredients in there.
‘There’s the reason he only bought seasonings.’
Meanwhile, he had retrieved a knife and other cooking utensils from his suitcase, as well as a dried bundle of cloth. Unfolding the bundle, he looped it around his neck and tightened the straps at his waist. It turned out to be an apron.
An apron and Top Dog sounds like a terrible combination, but the result was surprisingly a good match. In fact, Won was impressed.
Broad shoulders contrasted with a narrow strap around his neck, arm muscles showing through the short sleeves, and a waistband that accentuated his relatively slender waist due to his wide abs.
“If you look at me like that, I can’t cook. Do you want to eat me first?”
Ignoring the fact that he looked like he was about to undo the waistband and throw off his apron at any moment, Won approached the table.
“What am I supposed to do?”
“You can lie down on the couch and do some breathing exercises, or you can stay here and do some modeling to improve the health of my eyes. Is there anything in particular you don’t like or can’t eat?”
“Not really… I don’t like mushy vegetables.”
“Okay, understood.”
After watching Top Dog skillfully prepare some food, Won went to the living room and lay down on the couch. It was embarrassing to stand there like a sack of potatoes with nothing to do.
The sounds of chopping and slicing, broth bubbling in a pot, and the appetizing smells wafting through the apartment overwhelmed her senses. Won felt out of place.
Noises in the house that she didn’t make. The smell of food she didn’t buy or order.
‘This is weird.’
