Precautions of a Snakepit - Chapter 70
“Ms. Yang, I’ll walk you to the bathroom.”
“No! I don’t want you to, I’m going with my pretty unnie!”
When the staff tried to stop her, Ms. Yang threw a childlike tantrum. The staff was helpless.
Won approached them.
“I’ll take her.”
“Uh, I’d appreciate it if you did, but… are you sure it’s okay?”
“Yeah, I helped her last time.”
Won deliberately let it slip that it wasn’t the first time. The staff hesitated for a moment, then cautiously allowed it.
“Then, if you’ll excuse us, please.”
Won grabbed Ms. Yang’s hand in case she changed her mind.
“Ms. Yang, let’s go to the bathroom.”
Won managed to keep a nonchalant expression on her face, but her heart was pounding. She’d been waiting days to do this and now was her chance. She was lucky.
‘Let’s get the combination to the safe first. If I have time, what else can I ask about? The secret room? The bizarre precautions?’
Before she knew it, they were in front of the restroom. Won follows Ms. Yang as she opens the door to the restroom and tries to enter, but Ms. Yang yells at her.
“Why are you coming in?”
“What?”
“I know how to go to the bathroom by myself? Do you think you’re my mother? I can do it myself, so you can wait outside.”
Ms. Yang pushed Won hard and slammed the door. Won was left standing outside the bathroom door, unable to comprehend the situation.
‘What’s going on?’
Didn’t she ask her to go with her so she could get the combination? Won thought they were going to the restroom like last time to give information away from prying eyes.
After a minute or so, Ms. Yang opened the door and came out.
Did she lose her mind for a moment and come back? Was she going to ask her to follow her in now?
While Won was making thousands of assumptions, Ms. Yang reached out her arm to take her hand. Won’s mind raced.
‘She’s trying to sneak me something.’
A note with the combination to the safe? Or something that could help her? What could be hidden in the bathroom?
With excitement in her heart, Won eagerly took Ms. Yang’s hand in her own and frowned at the w*tness that made her body cringe.
“I washed my hands by myself. I did good, right?”
Ms. Yang cooed to Won, whose brain had stopped spinning and was unable to respond.
“But I don’t have a towel. Can I borrow yours?”
Without permission, Ms. Yang furiously rubbed her hands on Won’s clothes and walked away, humming.
Won was left with nothing but embarrassment and a damp hospital top on her stomach.
‘Yeah, that sometimes happens.’
She even thought it was too easy.
As Won turned to leave, she felt the clothes cling to her skin.
“Ugh.”
Disgusted, Won peeled it off and returned to her room, clumsily holding onto the top to prevent it from sticking again.
Afterward, Won hovered around Ms. Yang, trying to make contact, but without success.
‘At this rate, I might not get the password until D-Day…’
As days passed, Won grew impatient. She had to be around Ms. Yang long enough to not ar*use suspicion, but the contact was limited. There was no more time for her to lose.
‘Should I find another way now?’
If she stuck to Ms. Yang and there’s nothing to show on D-Day, she’ll have to give up entering the vault.
The vault in the clinic is the type that locks for three minutes after three incorrect entries. She can’t open it by luck, so she will need to figure out the answer.
At this point, only two people are certain to know the combination.
Ms. Yang and Dr. Madison.
The safe is in Dr. Madison’s office. There is no doubt he is the owner, so it makes sense he would know the password.
‘I’m surprised that Ms. Yang knows about the existence of the safe and password.’
‘How did she know? Did Dr. Madison trust her enough to tell her?’
It wasn’t their relationship that mattered.
Would Ms. Yang’s information still be valid? Wouldn’t Dr. Madison change the password? It wouldn’t do any good to ask for the password if that is the case. The only way to open it would be to poke the only person who knows it. Dr. Madison.
‘But how would I get the combination from him?’
Dr. Madison is seriously suspicious of her. He has a history of locking her in the stabilization room and torturing Won without evidence, just on a hunch. Won is sure that if she is caught by him, she’ll end up living in the CR.
It would be faster for her to learn it by spying on him.
‘Or seducing him.’
Won imagined herself flirting with Dr. Madison. Trying to figure it out by flirting and seducing him…
“Ew.”
Won felt disgusted. Seduction was not on the table. Acting is acting, but she doesn’t have the stomach for it.
His appearance was, objectively speaking, fine, but she was too squeamish. She wasn’t up to the task of seducing a man who was a complete sadist, it was too much for her.
After controlling her churning stomach, Won threw out the idea of seduction. It doesn’t exist in her world. Even if she somehow managed to transform herself into stomaching it, it wouldn’t work because of her inferior acting skills.
‘The answer is to alert the police.’
Won wanted to tear her hair out. There was nothing good about this hospital. Not Ms. Yang, not Dr. Madison, not the cult, and not even the vault.
‘No one would believe me even if I told them after I got out of here. Who would?’
When Won first heard about the mission from her client, she thought she might have to use her body for a long time.
The escape is set in a mysterious locked ward in the middle of nowhere. It’s a high-risk, action-packed adventure where all she has to do is rescue the heir from the heavily guarded facility. It’s a 1:99 brain-to-body ratio, where her brain is only used for the escape route and her body does the rest. She agreed because she thought it would be good to clear her head…
She dove in and found that the ward contained a doctor in the final stages of madness, a cult trying to brainwash patients, a former nurse using her diagnosis to give clues while under watch, a supposedly back-alley executive with an animalistic sixth sense, a genius who remembers the names of all translator’s he’s seen in the library, a missing heir who has been taken as a human sacrifice, a kid who switches between female and male personalities, a clapper who picks and chooses what he does and doesn’t want to say, and a whole host of other things that make her head spin.
She seriously had no idea this mission would be so complicated. It was like a 99:1 brain-to-body ratio.
‘Not even five times, it’s ten times that. It’s tenfold for sure.’
Whether it’s the client, Kim Sang-taek, or Target, they’re going to get what they paid for. If they have a conscience, they’ll give her extra money for her hard work.
Won spotted Ms. Yang across the hall. She approached her just in case. When she spotted her, Ms. Yang rushed over and said in a low voice, “Mom, I want to go to the bathroom.”
‘Is it for real this time?’
As Won looked on in disbelief, Ms. Yang’s temper flared.
“I think I’m going to pee myself. Let’s go, mom. Okay?”
“Yes? Yes.”
Looking for permission, Won turned to the staff.
“May I escort Ms. Yang to the bathroom?”
“Yes. We’ll follow her and keep an eye out in case anything happens.”
The staff readily agreed. They didn’t seem to mind that Won had taken her to the bathroom twice. As with anything, it’s hard once, but after a while, they let their guard down and take it for granted.
‘Will it be a waste or will it pay off?’
Arriving at the restroom, Won watched Ms. Yang’s behavior. The first to enter the bathroom was Ms. Yang, who whined at her.
“What are you doing, mom? Why don’t you come in?”
It was a far cry from the last time she had insisted she could go alone.
‘She’s crazy.’
Won stalked into the bathroom. Shutting the door behind her, she quickly pulled out her papers. She was in a hurry with no time to waste.
“Ms. Yang, the password to the safe is…”
Won impatiently looked back and stopped talking. Ms. Yang was glaring at her.
“The password to the safe?”
The moment Won heard the foreign voice, Ms. Yang crumbled. Won froze at the bizarre sight of a person’s shape changing in real-time like a clump of clay being molded by someone. Finally, the blurred outline became clear, and Ju-hee stood there.
“That’s what you were wondering, isn’t it, noona?”
Ju-hee, or Sol, who had been passing off as Ms. Yang a moment ago, smiled.
