- Chapter 28 - Superhuman Cells
With a dark expression on his face, Spandam raised his right arm and made a slashing motion across his throat as a defiant gesture towards Yang Ming and his group. After leaving this show of defiance, he angrily closed the curtains and swept everything off his desk in a fit of rage.
He forcefully placed his palm on the desk, his veins bulging on the back of his hand, and he chuckled with frustration, saying, “What a laughable notion of justice!”
“Only those who wield supreme power have the right to talk about justice!”
Spandam left the office, and inside the Tower of Justice, his subordinates who encountered him were avoiding the plague; no longer showing the flattery and camaraderie they used to. Even the agents Spandam had sent to inform Rob Lucci hadn’t returned any responses.
All of this stemmed from the headline news in today’s newspaper.
Everyone knew that with such a scandal, Spandam’s time in his position was running out, and they had no reason to continue trying to please this detestable superior during such times.
It’s clear that Spandam’s character was truly vile, so vile that even his colleagues avoided him.
Spandam made his way while his face darkened.
If it were any other day, he would be plotting how to sabotage these guys and make them meet their end in a mission.
Arriving outside a training room, Spandam walked in and turned his face faster than flipping a page, immediately putting on a smiling face.
Inside the training room, there was only Rob Lucci. He wore a white tank top, and held two dumbbells each weighing over a thousand kilograms. With each rhythmic breath, he was exercising his muscles.
Rob Lucci’s upper body muscles had a smooth, flowing contour, not the type of bulging muscles. Even when he noticed Spandam approaching, Rob Lucci showed no intention of stopping and continued to exercise.
Spandam rubbed his hands and said with a fawning tone, “Lucci, I want you to help me eliminate six people.”
“No.”
“These six people are from the Navy, and they have set foot on Enies Lobby!”
“No.”
Spandam took a deep breath, took out a slightly wrinkled newspaper, and said, “Lucci, I heard that this young man is a genius among the new generation of the Navy.”
Spandam had keen eyes and noticed a slight pause in Rob Lucci’s movements. He thought to himself that there might be a chance and continued, “Lucci, when you were thirteen, you gained fame in one battle. Everyone said you were a genius secretly cultivated by the World Government. But in my opinion, this Navy youngster is a real genius!”
“He defeated the 17 million Berries bounty pirate, Tea Beard Boss, when he was only seven years old. He also captured the 24 million Berries bounty pirate, Silver Fox Fukusei, with his comrades. And not long ago, he apprehended members of the Sun Pirates with bounties of 9 million Berries, 12 million Berries, and 16 million Berries.”
“Lucci, what were you doing at the age of seven?”
Spandam’s words were filled with insinuations, provoking Rob Lucci’s competitive spirit.
Rob Lucci put down the dumbbells on the ground, and with one hand, he snatched the newspaper from Spandam’s hand, while draping his suit jacket over his shoulder with the other hand.
Spandam watched as Rob Lucci’s figure grew increasingly distant, and he asked knowingly, “Lucci, where are you going?”
“To kill someone,” Rob Lucci replied in a casual tone, as if he were strolling in the garden after a meal.
Upon hearing this, a sinister grin appeared on Spandam’s lips.
When Yang Ming and his group set foot on the main island, they were immediately greeted by the enthusiastic welcome of the Hound Unit.
The Hound Unit was a special unit of guards mounted on large wolves. These wolves had been specially bred through generations and were much larger than ordinary wolves which were capable of carrying guards swiftly on the battlefield.
Yang Ming ordered Smoker and his group to take action and took a moment to check the system prompt.
“Ding!”
“Congratulations to the host for uttering a classic line from the DC Universe, you have obtained one lottery chance, do you want to activate the lottery wheel?”
The roulette wheel prizes are quite varied and can be roughly divided into three categories: abilities, equipment, and miscellaneous items.
Abilities: Lightning, psychic abilities, immortality.
Equipment: True Word Lasso, Sword of the Fire God, Divine Power Shield.
Miscellaneous Items: Diluted Superhuman Cells, Green Lantern Ring.
?Diluted Superhuman Cells?: When integrated, it will lead to faster growth in physical fitness, strength, and agility.
After the Diluted Superhuman Cells entered Yang Ming’s body, it immediately triggered a frenzy among the Gourmet Cells.
The two powerful cells fought within Yang Ming’s body, a brutal battle invisible to the outside world.
However, neither side could overcome the other, and in the end, a delicate balance was reached under the suppression of the Dragon lineage’s bloodline.
Yang Ming stood still, and heard a series of crackling sounds coming from his body as if beans were being fried.
After a while, these changes stopped.
“Who dares to disturb the peace of Enies Lobby!”
Seeing the members of the Hound Unit falling one by one in pools of blood, the Chief Justice who presided over the courtroom couldn’t sit still anymore and brought the Guilty Jury to assist.
The members of the Guilty Jury were all carefully selected guards, with burly and robust physiques, and the word “Guilty” engraved on their left arms. They held a large black iron ball, with one end connected to an iron chain in their hands.
Holding one end of the iron chain, they swung the large iron ball in a circle and shouted, “You are guilty!”
In the next moment, the pitch-black iron ball made a piercing sound as it was thrown towards Yang Ming and his group.
This large iron ball was astonishingly heavy. A direct hit from it would render an ordinary person severely disabled or even kill them on the spot.
Fortunately, due to its massive weight, the large iron ball’s throwing speed was not astonishingly fast. With proper preparation and prediction, it could be easily avoided, as Yang Ming and his group skillfully demonstrated.
The Chief Justice appeared to have giant lineage in his bloodline, as he had a tall and burly physique, and he had three heads, consisting of Bas, Kabyr, and the self-proclaimed Princess.
Although their combination seemed bizarre, the three of them had an excellent understanding, and their swordsmanship was exquisite. Their six standard-issue longswords moved in unison, attacking from six different angles while aiming directly for Yang Ming’s head, heart, arms, and legs.
Yang Ming’s eyes narrowed as he suddenly drew his sword.
Flames wrapped around the blade like flowing water, forming a scorching flame sword.
“Dang! Dang! Dang! Dang! Dang! …”
In just a few breaths, they exchanged blows, creating dazzling sparks as their swords clashed.
The Chief Justice watched in astonishment as, even under the combined assault of the three of them, Yang Ming managed to hold his ground. He couldn’t help but wonder:
“Is this young boy really just seven years old?”
“Could he have been training since birth?”
Taking advantage of the Chief Justice’s momentary distraction, Yang Ming gripped the hilt with both hands and raised the sword high above his head.
Fierce flames erupted from beneath his feet, winding around him like a fiery serpent which climbed up the blade.
“Fourth Style: Flame Tiger!”
With Yang Ming’s words, a fierce blaze swept forth, vaguely outlining the shape of a flaming tiger.
The Chief Justice’s pupils contracted sharply as he changed into a needle-like shape.
A scorching wave of heat rushed towards them, and the air was filled with the searing sensation. Even the air seemed to distort slightly under the intense heat. The Chief Justice’s few strands of hair even curled up and turned yellow from the scorching air.
In this critical moment, the Chief Justice couldn’t afford to be careless. The three of them joined forces, crossing their six blades in front of the ferocious Flame Tiger.
The Tiger’s Descent technique was all about imposing an overwhelming momentum.
As soon as the Chief Justice thought of defense, the Flame Tiger’s imposing aura was slightly diminished!
“Boom!”
When the Flame Sword struck the six swords, a tremendous force was transmitted through the swords that numbed the Chief Justice’s hands and caused them to crack!
At the same time, the ferocious Flame Tiger bypassed the swords and pounced directly on the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice turned into a human torch, his fiery body burning fiercely under his large robe. The three of them who were initially wearing the same outfit, finally separated were tumbling on the ground one after another to extinguish the flames.
When they climbed back up from the ground, they saw Yang Ming and his group shrouded in billowing white smoke. They leaping over the massive abyss waterfall between the courthouse and the Tower of Justice.
Bas scratched his head and said, “Should we continue chasing?”
Kabir sat on the ground while sticking out his tongue as he was still overheated. He replied, “Forget it, this is the trouble that Spandam brought upon himself. Let him deal with it. We did our best and even got injured. Even if a new CP9 chief comes, there’s nothing they can do for us.”
With that, he seemed uncomfortable sitting there and chose to lie down on his back pretending to be unconscious.
Bas punched his palm, and suddenly understood that the highest level of slacking off at work was to lie flat and do nothing. The self-proclaimed Princess also followed suit, lying down among the flames.
The Paramecia-type Devil Fruit had various amazing uses. When enveloped in the white smoke created by Smoker’s transformation, Yang Ming felt a seemingly soft yet powerful force surrounding his body.
Unless the force exceeded that of Smoker’s, it was nearly impossible to break free from the smoke through brute strength alone.
Carried by the white smoke, they floated over the massive waterfall and landed steadily in front of the Tower of Justice.
When Yang Ming and his group finally stood still, they suddenly noticed a group of people waiting there for quite some time.
The leader of this group was a man in a well-fitted suit, and wearing a black top hat, with a white dove perched on his shoulder. His face was cleanly shaven, and he had bright piercing eyes that were fixed on Yang Ming.
However, his expression soon turned into one of disappointment.
“Just with your kind of ability, you’re also called a genius?”
