- Chapter 27 - 400 Years Later, Ideas Can Still Change the World
From the Capital of Seven Waters to Enies Lobby, the distance wasn’t too far.
As the late-night hour descended, three-masted sailboats had already sailed near Ennies Lobby.
What was astonishing was that even though outside was a brilliant starry scene within the vicinity of Enies Lobby, it was as bright as daylight.
Due to Enies Lobby’s characteristic of perpetual daylight, it was also known as the “Island of Nevernight.”
Yang Ming and his group stood on the deck, gazing at the distant island’s silhouette.
Enies Lobby or the Judicial Island was encircled by a ring of iron fences on the outer layer, with each iron pillar being as thick as two people hugging and deeply embedded in the soft seafloor sand. They rose at least twenty meters above sea level, blocking external ships from entering and allowing access only through the main gate.
Judicial Island could roughly be divided into four parts: the Front Island, the Main Island, the Tower of Justice, and the Bridge of Hesitation, along with the Justice Gate located behind the island.
At this moment, a Transponder Snail on the table rang.
It was the Transponder Snail that Vice Admiral Zeff had given them when they parted ways.
Everyone’s hearts skipped a beat, thinking that Vice Admiral Zeff might try to dissuade them, and their gazes turned to Yang Ming.
Yang Ming calmly picked up the Transponder Snail. As soon as he answered the call, Vice Admiral Zeff’s voice came through with a loud shout, “You brat, you’re going to Judicial Island without notifying me first?”
Then, they fell into an awkward silence.
After a moment, Vice Admiral Zeff’s slightly weary voice continued, “You brats, don’t forget how I taught you at the Naval Academy!”
“When you’ve determined that this is a just and necessary thing to do, then go ahead and do it with my full support!”
“If the World Government comes after you, I’m willing to take full responsibility. I can even resign from my position as Vice Admiral, no big deal. I’ll just retire!”
“Remember your identity as Marines; you carry a heavy burden on your shoulders!”
“Justice will prevail!”
Yang Ming and his group were deeply moved.
They hadn’t expected Vice Admiral Zeff to come not to scold them but to offer his support.
Yang Ming and his group stood firmly on their feet, saluting towards the Transponder Snail, and solemnly said, “Justice will prevail!”
After taking down the Transponder Snail, Vice Admiral Zeff rubbed his temples and muttered, “This kind of fearless and reckless nature, completely disregarding the consequences reminds me of that old man, Garp.”
“That old man Garp, he still shamelessly denies that Yang Ming is his illegitimate child?”
“Unbelievable!”
Meanwhile, at the Marine Headquarters, Vice Admiral Garp suddenly sneezed.
Vice Admiral Garp looked around; Admiral Sengoku was calmly sipping tea, and Admirals Akainu (Sakazuki), Aokiji (Kuzan), and Kizaru (Borsalino) were all present, along with a group of Vice Admirals summoned from various places.
Admiral Sengoku took a sip of tea and said, “Today, let’s discuss the formal inclusion of the Pirate Empress Boa Hancock into the Seven Warlords of the Sea.”
This mundane meeting was not as interesting as eating Senbei, so Garp began to casually enjoy his snack.
In front of Judicial Island’s Front Island stood the primary entrance, heavily guarded by a large number of sentries.
According to Judicial Island’s organization, a constant force of ten thousand soldiers was supposed to be stationed here, divided into two shifts for day and night duty. However, successive CP9 chiefs during their tenure had mostly been corrupt with the current CP9 chief, Spandam, being among the worst offenders. The issue of receiving pay without performing any actual duties was commonplace.
In reality, having three thousand soldiers on duty was considered fortunate. Even though there were guards stationed, they had enjoyed years of peace and lacked proper training. Their combat capabilities were questionable.
When the three-masted sailboat approached the Front Island, Yang Ming and his group had already disembarked before the guards realized.
A sentry raised his rifle toward Yang Ming and asked, “Who are you people?”
Yang Ming took out his Marine credentials from his pocket and said expressionlessly, “We’re here on Marine business. Stand aside!”
The sentry seeing the Marine Headquarters seal on the credentials became puzzled, “Why would Marines suddenly visit us? It’s strange.”
His companion slapped his forehead suddenly, exclaiming, “I remember now. We received orders that if Marines show up, we must eliminate them on the spot and not let them enter!”
Upon hearing this, the surrounding guards became alert.
Seeing that they couldn’t enter Judicial Island peacefully, Yang Ming turned to his companions and said, “Take them out!”
Smoker and the others were already eager to go, and they immediately engaged the guards.
The guards were armed with flintlock rifles, which had been developed by Doflamingo’s arms business to be capable of rapid fire.
However, the guards stationed here had rifles that were identical to the outdated ones used in the East Blue. Not only were they unable to fire rapidly, but after each shot, there was a three-second cooldown to cool the barrel.
What was even worse was that these rifles hadn’t been properly maintained for years, and they often exploded when fired which causing more harm to themselves than to their enemies.
Some of the cleverer guards didn’t even bother with their rifles; they drew the standard-issue longswords from their waist instead.
However, when they tried to engage Yang Ming and his group in melee combat, they found that their standard-issue longswords shattered on impact!
These standard-issue longswords were nothing more than cheap knock-offs!
The number of guards stationed at the Front Island’s primary entrance was surprisingly low, with only a little over five hundred of them. Moreover, they were poorly trained, lacked formation, and fought like disorganized rabble that offering little resistance.
Although Yang Ming and his group were just six people, they were all top students from the current Marine Academy class.
And they fought with fierce determination, driven by their beliefs. Their combat style was exceptionally aggressive, like a pack of unleashed tigers, and they effortlessly routed the several hundred guards.
With one side lacking the will to fight and the other side demoralized, the battle was a one-sided affair.
After passing through the Front Island’s primary entrance, they entered a long and narrow corridor. The ground was covered with white marble tiles, and on both sides of the road were neatly manicured lawns with rows of small trees.
The second primary entrance of the Front Island was suspended above a massive waterfall that cascaded straight down for three thousand feet which resembling a celestial river descending from the heavens.
The waterfall produced a tremendous roar as it rushed downward, filling the air with cool, and moist mist that clung to the skin like ice.
In front of the second primary entrance, two colossal figures, each resembling iron towers are stood guard.
On the left stood a man wearing a helmet adorned with beast-like horns, clad in strapped trousers, and his upper body bare to reveal a muscular physique. He carried a massive black battle axe weighing over a thousand kilograms in his hand.
On the right stood a man in simple attire, portly and with a gentle expression. His two arms were thicker than elephant legs, and he wielded a hammer weighing over a thousand kilograms with one hand.
These two giants were none other than former members of the Giant Warrior Pirates led by Dorry and Brogy— Oimo and Kashi.
Kashi brandished his massive battle axe, creating a small whirlwind on the ground, and declared with great determination, “We won’t let you pass unless you step over our dead bodies!”
Seeing this, Smoker and the others appeared concerned.
“Giants?”
Giants were natural warriors that possessing physical strength and power far beyond ordinary humans. They could easily swing incredibly heavy weapons and cause significant destruction on the battlefield.
Facing such opponents would likely prove challenging.
Smoker was alarmed and asked Yang Ming, “Captain, what are you planning?”
“Don’t worry.”
Yang Ming replied with a calm look, approaching the two giant guards.
When facing giants, one could truly feel the imposing presence they had due to their height.
“You should know that your leaders, Dorry and Brogy; haven’t been arrested or imprisoned. The World Government deceived you.”
With childlike candor, combined with Yang Ming’s unique aura, it was easy to create a favorable impression.
Kashi bent down, and his wide pupils reflecting Yang Ming’s figure.
“Kid, are you telling the truth?”
“A hundred years ago, Dorry and Brogy each captured a Sea King, and because a little girl asked them which catch was bigger, they started arguing. They dueled for a hundred years in a small garden over this question.”
Hearing this, Oimo and Kashi exchanged bewildered glances.
Such a bizarre way of doing things could only be attributed to their captain.
Once Oimo and Kashi allowed them to pass, Yang Ming and his group arrived at the second primary entrance.
From this elevated position, they could see various empty courtyards scattered across the Main Island. At the far end of the Main Island was the Courthouse.
There was no direct path connecting the Courthouse to the Tower of Justice; they were separated by a massive chasm with a waterfall.
The only way to reach the Tower of Justice from the Courthouse was to open a drawbridge using switches located on the rooftops of the towers on both sides of the Courthouse.
At this moment, the Bridge of Hesitation had already been retracted. Leaving only the solitary Tower of Justice standing on the other side of the waterfall chasm.
Yang Ming suddenly felt something and looked up.
The window of an office in the Tower of Justice was wide open, and the grim face of CP9 Chief Spandam appeared in the sight of Yang Ming and his group. His voice carried a nervous tone as he spoke from a distance.
“Do you know that there are billions of people in the world? The women I played with are just a tiny fraction of that. Are you really here to confront me for the sake of a few cheap women?”
“Do you Marines have nothing better to do, always meddling in other people’s affairs?”
Spandam’s words didn’t have the intended effect; instead, they only fueled the anger in Yang Ming and his group.
Yang Ming raised his standard-issue longsword, pointing it directly at Spandam.
“Perhaps, in the eyes of the privileged like you, those poor women are just numbers who’s just tools to please you.”
“But for us, they are the honor we must defend with our blood!”
“We’ve been taught to remember ideas, not people because people may fail, they may be captured, killed, and forgotten. But 400 years later, ideas can still change the world.”
“Justice… will prevail!”
