- Chapter 16 - Dragon's Roar
“Hehehehehe!”
“I see what I see, a little kid has actually become a naval officer.”
A pirate chuckled sinisterly, holding a dagger in his hand, and extending his long tongue to lightly slide it over the blade. A pair of squinted eyes revealed a touch of disdain.
He and his two companions quietly surrounded Yang Ming, adopting the principle of targeting the weak spots, and were the first to launch an attack on Yang Ming.
As expected by these three pirates, the young boy before them was utterly terrified, and standing frozen in place.
However, when the weapons of the three pirates landed on the boy, there was no sight of heads rolling on the ground. Instead, when their blades struck Yang Ming’s neck and heart, it was like hitting a steel plate, and producing a clear ringing sound.
“He’s awake…”
Yang Ming’s lowered bangs covered his eyes. He clenched the knife handle with his five fingers, stomped his foot, and a burst of flame erupted beneath his feet, propelling his small figure like an arrow released from a bow. With a standard long knife in his hand, he swung it, creating surging waves of heat.
With a flash of the blade, crimson flames seemed to attach like a malignant ulcer to the bodies of the three pirates.
Yang Ming landed behind the three pirates, his feet firmly on the ground. Only the latter half of his sentence managed to be heard.
“Hunting time!”
The three bodies fell to the ground in response, and the fresh blood that had just spilled from their slashed throats quickly evaporated into wisps of bloody smoke within the burning flames, emitting a nauseating scent.
“Ding!”
“Congratulations to the host for quoting a classic line from ‘King of Glory,’ earning a chance to draw a prize. Would you like to activate the drawing roulette?”
The system prompt was drowned out by the clamor on the battlefield, but luckily, Yang Ming still had a part of his attention focused on it.
A drawing roulette gradually appeared in his vision, displaying three categories of prizes: Hero Skins, Runes, and Hero Abilities.
?Hero Skins?: Immortal Lord Wuling, Phoenix Seeking Phoenix, Flying Balance…
?Runes?: Hunting, Hawk Eye, Mutation…
?Hero Abilities?: Dragon’s Roar, Thunderous Dragon, Linguistic Barrier…
The drawing roulette spun rhythmically, synchronizing with the sound of Yang Ming stepping on the deck.
Clashing swords, continuous gunfire.
For the first time, the trainees on the training ship stepped out of their comfort zone and were subjected to the brutal baptism of the pirates on the Grand Line.
Compared to the tender scenes seen in animations, real-world pirates appeared much more cunning and ruthless.
They had no bottom line, often risking their lives in battles, targeting vulnerable spots of their enemies with every blow, hoping to kill or maim them.
Even the trainees manning the cannons seemed to be thrown off balance at once, forgetting to launch shells at the nearby pirate ships.
Zeff, the chief instructor, didn’t give orders or intervene; he simply observed, letting the situation unfold.
The Silver Fox Pirate Crew wasn’t considered a powerful crew on the Grand Line. If they couldn’t even defeat opponents like this, even if these trainees were fortunate enough to graduate and join the Marine Headquarters, they would only end up being a burden to their teammates.
Fortunately, these trainees were the cream of the crop, handpicked by the Navy. After the initial chaos, they quickly regained their footing under the leadership of the top students.
Using Elementalization, Smoker shuttled back and forth across the battlefield, billowing white smoke that was both gentle and fierce. It sometimes transformed into binding ropes to tie up enemies, and other times became smoke and steel needles that knocked pirates down.
Tashigi excelled in hand-to-hand combat, agilely maneuvering through the enemies. Once she found an opportunity, she would close in on them, suddenly knocking them down. At the very least, they would end up with broken bones.
Daddy Masterson was adept at marksmanship, dual-wielding pistols. He roamed along the battlefield’s edge, his calm gaze always able to locate the enemies’ weak points. A single bullet precisely pierced through an enemy’s heart.
Jonathan had average physical skills, mediocre swordsmanship, and average marksmanship. However, he possessed a remarkably intelligent mind and leadership abilities. He commanded a group of students, managing and deploying them with authority.
Under Jonathan’s command, the five training ships encircled the enemy pirate ship. The wounded were placed in the rear, while those skilled in close combat charged at the front. With his organization, what was initially a precarious defense line immediately became stable.
Drake and Jonathan were familiar with each other. Delegated by Jonathan, they charged at the forefront. The path they carved left many pirates fallen in a pool of blood.
Among the trainees’ performances, Yang Ming was undoubtedly the most eye-catching.
He was like a king born from flames. With each step he took, often before the other pirates could react, a dazzling blade flash would appear, and a fiery pirate near Yang Ming would fall. Even before uttering a cry of agony, they became cold corpses.
The relentless flames consumed the pirates’ bodies, leaving behind a pile of ash on the ground behind Yang Ming.
When a gust of sea breeze blew and lifted the bangs from Yang Ming’s forehead, his deep and pitch-black eyes reflected in the firelight. Exuded an overwhelming sense of pressure, causing people’s hearts to involuntarily tremble.
What had been seen as an easy target in the eyes of the pirates suddenly transformed into a voracious great white shark.
After the number of deaths under Yang Ming’s blade surpassed thirty, the surrounding pirates didn’t dare approach him. The area around Yang Ming became a vacuum.
During a lull in the battle, Yang Ming finally had a chance to examine the prizes he had drawn.
?Dragon’s Roar?: Whenever damage is taken in battle, the damage received is slightly reduced. It can reduce up to one-third of the damage taken.
The passive ability “Dragon’s Roar” is enough to significantly enhance Yang Ming’s survivability and endurance.
When paired with the Navy’s Six Techniques Iron Block, Yang Ming’s defensive power is greatly increased, making him stronger as the battle progresses.
Moreover, after Yang Ming learns Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) in the future, his resilience during battle will become even more formidable. He could be compared to a version of Hundred Beasts Kaido!
Seeing that the trainees on the five training ships had stabilized the front line and showed signs of pushing back onto the pirate ship, the officers who remained on the pirate ship couldn’t sit still.
However, before they could take action, Yang Ming was the first to step onto the makeshift bridge built by the pirates and he landing firmly on the pirate ship.
The Navy often has to battle pirates from all around and engaging in close combat is a common occurrence. Therefore, training to balance one’s body is also a part of the curriculum at the Navy Academy.
A wooden board that could only hold one foot was trivial for Yang Ming.
After landing, Yang Ming quickly assessed the enemies on the deck.
Silver Fox Fukusei, Hamburg, Poqi, Ito Qu, Cabote, Beccuros, Gina, Sonei, Donoban.
Including the captain Silver Fox Fukusei a.k.a “Foxy”, there were nine officers present.
In addition, Yang Ming’s gaze turned meaningful as he glanced at the three bearded men.
The leader among them was a burly man with a massive physique, resembling a small giant. He was tall and had a distinctive feature—his beard was tied into three braids, giving him an appearance that might be mistaken for a Whitebeard worshiper.
“Captain of the Tea Beard Pirate Crew, Tea Beard Boss, bounty 17 million berries.”
Hearing Yang Ming reveal his identity, Tea Beard Boss burst into hearty laughter, a sound like “wuhu wuhu wuhu.”
This seemingly hospitable man exuded the fierceness of a wolf from his eyes.
“All Navy personnel must die!”
As the words fell, Tea Beard Boss swung a wolf-toothed club that weighed over five hundred pounds which creating a powerful gust of wind.
The gust of wind hit Yang Ming’s face like a blade, causing a slight stinging sensation.
Tea Beard Boss didn’t hold back at all; he unleashed his full strength from the very beginning, showing no slack just because the enemy was a child.
Pirates who could make a name for themselves on the Grand Line were by no means ordinary individuals. It was well understood that in these waters, the most dangerous types were the elderly, women, and children.
Especially this young boy who had managed to come over from the training ship, it was clear that he was a rising star nurtured by the Navy. If Tea Beard Bobo underestimated him, it would be hard to predict the outcome.
Just as Yang Ming was about to evade, Silver Fukusei gave an insidious smile and pointed at Yang Ming from a distance.
“Slow Light!”
A pink beam of light shot out. Although not as fast as light speed, Yang Ming couldn’t avoid it. He was hit by the pink beam of light on the spot.
In the next moment, Yang Ming felt his thoughts slow down dramatically.
It had to be said that the pirates on the Grand Line were extremely treacherous, showing no sense of honor in combat. Even when dealing with a child, they wouldn’t hesitate to gang up on him.
Fortunately, Yang Ming had been keenly observing Silver Fox Fukusei’s every move and was already prepared for his actions. The moment Silver Fukusei raised his finger, Yang Ming’s muscles tensed up instantly.
“Iron Block!”
Amidst the piercing sound of wind, the wolf-toothed club ruthlessly hammered down on Yang Ming.
“Bang!”
The force attached to the wolf-toothed club was incredibly powerful and directly sending the small figure flying.
“Boom!”
A wooden wall was smashed, leaving a humanoid dent and raising a cloud of dust.
Tea Beard Boss once again burst into his unique laughter. However, this time, his laughter was mixed with a hint of mockery and taunt.
“What an ignorant little brat!”
“If the Navy is made up of trash like this, it’s truly fantastic!”
After speaking, the pirates burst into laughter, clutching their stomachs.
These pirates were all cunning individuals; every action of theirs had a purpose.
They understood very well that through this method, they could lift the morale of the dejected pirates and simultaneously strike a blow to the Navy’s arrogance. It was a strategy that killed two birds with one stone.
However, when Silver Fox Fukusei and Tea Beard Boss’ gazes swept over the Navy personnel on the adjacent training ship, they unexpectedly didn’t see the despair and sorrow of those who had lost their comrades.
Instead, the Navy trainees wore expressions that seemed to relish the unfolding scene.
Seeing this, a sense of foreboding immediately enveloped their hearts.
