- Chapter 1 - Less Work, More Gain—That's My Ideal
In the year 1510 of the Sea Yuan Calendar, the weather was clear.
At East Blue, Goa Kingdom, the uncertain object terminal.
A crow descended from the sky and landed on a pile of garbage, preparing to pick up a rotten apple to ease its hunger.
Unexpectedly, a hand suddenly reached out from the garbage pile, startling the crow. Black feathers fell, landing on a young and tender face.
“Ptui, ptui, ptui!”
Yang Ming struggled to climb out of the garbage heap, exhausted and sore. He lay in a spread-eagle position on top of the pile, gasping for air heavily.
As a modern person, Yang Ming would never have imagined that staying up late to complete homework would lead to him crossing over to another world, especially in such a peculiar way.
A flood of memories from his past self surged into Yang Ming’s mind, helping him understand his current situation.
This place was the Goa Kingdom, renowned as the most beautiful country in the East Blue. Ironically, this country viewed them as dirty existences, all discarded at the uncertain object terminal.
These dirty existences included not only everyday garbage and waste materials but also people who had been marginalized.
Unfortunately, Yang Ming’s previous self was an orphan and beggar, surviving by begging for food. He was abandoned at the uncertain object terminal, relying on picking up discarded food from the townspeople to survive.
It was unclear what his previous self had eaten, but he perished, which turned out to be fortunate for Yang Ming, as he ended up possessing this body after crossing over.
The previous self had no name, so Yang Ming naturally replaced it with his own name.
Before Yang Ming could sort out the memories in his mind, he suddenly heard footsteps approaching from a distance, accompanied by a slightly naive voice:
“Ace, Sabo, come take a look. That person looks strange, lying on the garbage pile without wearing clothes.”
Yang Ming’s ears twitched slightly. He strained to prop up his upper body and looked in the direction of the voice.
Three mischievous children were chasing and playing, coming from afar.
Leading the way was a person wearing a red sleeveless vest. His black hair was somewhat disheveled in the sea breeze. He held a steel pipe tightly in his hand. His gaze sharp as he scanned his surroundings, always attentive to the nearby situation.
Following closely behind was a boy dressed in a blue noble’s attire. He wore a pitch-black high-crowned hat, and there was a spirit of yearning for freedom between his eyebrows.
Dangling at the end was a young boy, the youngest of the group. A grass hat much larger than his head hung on his back. At this moment, he pointed in Yang Ming’s direction with an exaggerated expression.
As a fan of pirates, Yang Ming immediately recognized them. These three individuals before him were none other than the famous trio from later times: Luffy, Ace, and Sabo.
Yang Ming knew that Luffy’s sense of aesthetics was always a bit odd, but he couldn’t help but curiously size himself up.
He was short in stature, with slender arms, looking similar to a six or seven-year-old child. He had no extra clothing, and after being buried in the garbage heap for a while, his body was covered in dirt and stains, emitting a foul odor.
As Luffy and the others approached Yang Ming, a gurgle sound came from Yang Ming’s stomach.
Yang Ming’s face turned pale, feeling an impending misfortune.
The previous self scavenged through garbage heaps all day for sustenance, and whether he could eat enough was a question. Now, Yang Ming was dizzy with hunger, making it difficult for him to exert any strength.
Ace had been wary, carefully assessing Yang Ming. But upon hearing the hungry rumbling from Yang Ming’s stomach, Ace’s expression gradually eased.
While venturing at the uncertain object terminal, they had offended many people.
In this area, there were often scavengers, thieves, and bandits. There were even child traffickers.
Previously, Ace had suspected that Yang Ming might be bait used by those people to lure them in. However, it seemed he was overthinking.
Yawns were contagious, and hunger was equally contagious.
“Gurgle~”
In a short while, Luffy held his shrunken belly and said:
“I’m so hungry! When are we going to eat?”
“Let’s go to the seashore and find something to eat,” Sabo suggested.
Seeing the three about to leave, Yang Ming realized he couldn’t survive in this survival-of-the-fittest world on his own. He hurriedly dragged his exhausted body and followed them.
“My name is Yang Ming. Can I join you?”
Before Ace and Sabo could speak, Luffy immediately smiled:
“Sure! With a new friend joining us, I won’t be at the bottom anymore!”
Sabo had no objections.
Although Ace was mature for his age, he didn’t want to take in someone he knew nothing about. However, Ace also understood that Luffy, as silly as he looked, wouldn’t invite someone with malicious intentions.
With the silent consent of Ace and Sabo, Yang Ming successfully blended into their small circle.
To accommodate Yang Ming, the group didn’t walk too fast. They stopped and walked, eventually leaving the area filled with garbage heaps and arriving at the seashore.
Under the azure sky, there was the vast ocean, with seagulls occasionally swooping down from the sky. A gentle touch from the sea, and they would bend their heads to pick up a fish from the sea.
The four of them cooperated with their assigned tasks. Ace and Sabo were responsible for fishing, while Luffy was in charge of finding flammable materials nearby, such as branches and pieces of paper. Due to Yang Ming’s weakened condition, he stayed in the original location, picking up shells and conches from the vicinity while building a simple bonfire using the wood Luffy had found.
Yang Ming had previous experience building fires from a summer camp he attended with his classmates in a forested area. The process went smoothly.
When Ace and Sabo each carried a large mahi-mahi fish back on their shoulders, the bonfire was already ignited.
Sabo took out a spring knife from his pocket and expertly scaled the mahi-mahi fish.
During this time, Ace and Yang Ming engaged in casual conversation, with Ace trying to gather more information about Yang Ming’s background.
Upon learning that Yang Ming was a homeless beggar orphan, Ace began to understand the situation to some extent. Similar existences, like Yang Ming’s predecessor, were not uncommon in the Goa Kingdom.
The Goa Kingdom was very underdeveloped, and the wealth disparity was extreme. Advanced technology from the Grand Line was popular mainly among the nobles, with little circulation in the lower classes. The common people still relied on farming and cultivating economic crops like cotton and rubber to earn meager income.
In times of unexpected events, the commoners were unable to secure enough resources for survival. They would either take the risk of becoming pirates or resort to desperate acts like becoming thieves, a gamble that often led to imprisonment or a worse fate.
Generally speaking, becoming a famous pirate was a rare achievement, and most people who attempted it were reported by their neighbors and arrested by the city guard, ending up in jail.
“Yang Ming, do you have a dream?”
Before Yang Ming could answer, Luffy, patting his chest, exclaimed with grand ambition, “My dream is to become the Pirate King and obtain the legendary One Piece!”
Both Ace and Sabo facepalmed.
Having a brother with such chuunibyou tendencies left them somewhat speechless.
“A dream, huh?”
Yang Ming gazed upward at the blue sky and white clouds, seemingly drifting back to his previous life. As a student, his drive was to study diligently, get into a prestigious university after the college entrance exam, then work hard for the civil service exam or postgraduate studies, striving to become a regular employee. This way, he wouldn’t need to worry about life and even have retirement plans in the future. Yes, that was Yang Ming’s ordinary dream.
Returning from his thoughts, Yang Ming shrugged his shoulders and said, “Getting more for doing less, that’s my ideal!”
As Yang Ming’s words faded, a voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
“Ding!”
“System detected that the host qualifies for system binding. The Make Memes and Draw Prizes System is now officially bound to the host. Once the host speaks classic lines from movies, animations, novels, and other sources, they will gain the opportunity to draw prizes. Congratulations, the host has spoken a classic line from ‘One Person Below.’ Would you like to activate the drawing?”
“System?”
A glint flashed in Yang Ming’s eyes.
Crossing over usually meant having a system, and Yang Ming originally thought he was an exception. However, it turned out he had a system as well. Moreover, this system seemed quite extraordinary. It only required continuously uttering various lines to gain more drawing opportunities. If he drew powerful prizes, he could soar to new heights, right where he stood.
Filled with excitement, Yang Ming remained composed on the surface, continuing to chat with Ace and the others to strengthen their bond, all while using up his drawing opportunities.
In Yang Ming’s line of sight, a roulette wheel appeared, invisible to others. On the wheel, there were several big sections, each corresponding to a different prize.
Summon Characters! Zhang Chulan, Feng Baobao, Zhao Fangxu, Fang Zizai, Zhang Huaiyi, Rootless, and many more…
Eight Unique Skills: Extraordinary Body, Wind’s Qimen, Divine Machine White Refinement, Seize Spirits and Command Generals, Six Vault Immortal Thieves, Great Luo Cave Observation, Communal Dao Ribbon, Dual Tongs.
Martial Arts: Five Element Primordial Law, Full Production Inner Dan Skill, Item Manipulation, Wuhou Qimen…
He could even summon characters?
Looking at the prizes on the drawing roulette, Yang Ming felt like sarcastically saying, “Only children have to make choices. Adults naturally want everything!” However, Yang Ming also understood that the system was the boss, and his own will had no sway.
In the bewildered gazes of Ace and Sabo, Yang Ming ran to the seaside, rinsing his dampened hands in the seawater, then clasped them together in front of him, earnestly muttering in his heart, “Amitabha, Holy Mary, give it to me, so be it, without a doubt. I must get the prize I want!”
Seemingly deeply moved, the pointer on the drawing roulette slowly came to a stop…
