Not Sober - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Jenna tensed up and groaned involuntarily. Her muscles felt sore all over. She blushed as she recalled the events of the previous night, searching the room for any remnants of their intimate encounter.
However, no trace of it was found. Instead, the smell of delicious food drifted in from outside. Jenna rubbed her eyes and slowly got out of bed.
She opened the door quietly and found him standing at the stove, humming as he cooked. It was surprising to see him cooking so well, considering he didn’t seem like someone who would even touch a drop of water.
The humming continued uninterrupted in the kitchen as if he were thoroughly enjoying himself. Jenna watched him for a moment before sneaking up behind him and shouting, “Boo!”
“Argh!” Startled, Sung-chan yelled and spun around.
“Wow, you scared me half to death,” he said, his heart still racing as he looked at Jenna’s mischievous smile.
“Just woke up! Gotcha!” Jenna laughed, pleased that her prank had succeeded. Sung-chan couldn’t help but smile back, though he also felt like giving her a playful punch.
“Wow, you’re acting just like a girlfriend,” he remarked, causing Jenna to blush shyly at the mention of the word “girlfriend.” It felt awkward for both of them, especially since it was Jenna’s first time being in a relationship.
Jenna coughed nervously and stepped back, causing him to furrow his brow in confusion. He asked, “Are we officially dating?”
Jenna shook her head instead of answering. He let out a soft sigh and seemed relieved.
“Good, no need to force it,” he said.
“Forcing what?” Jenna asked, puzzled.
“I mentioned it yesterday,” he replied, causing Jenna to tilt her head and furrow her brow as she tried to recall.
“Now, if you are ready, I will have s*x with you until you are satisfied. You cannot f*ck any other as$hole, You cannot f*ck any other as$hole.”
Jenna looked away, feeling uncomfortable with the blunt remark from earlier. “Um, I don’t…” she started to say.
“Well, you should. Come on, have a seat. Breakfast is ready,” he interrupted, smiling. His smile deepened, revealing a dimple on one cheek.
She asked herself, “Am I in a relationship with this senior?” Jenna wondered aloud, feeling confused.
Jenna playfully pinched his cheek, almost as if she needed to confirm he was real. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she had truly fallen for him overnight.
Sung-chan drove her to school for Jenna’s class later. While he concentrated on the road, she looked at him, and an idea came to her. It wasn’t a good idea, and her expression shifted to a darker mood. Sung-chan noticed the change.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, noticing her behavior change.
Unable to voice her thoughts, Jenna remained silent, her mind lingering on Sung-chan’s past. Despite her reservations, she felt an undeniable excitement.
Certainly, he was almost too perfect for her. It was impossible not to have a crush on a guy who treated her with that kind of face.
However, the significance of his vasectomy was not lost on her. It was an unusual choice for an unmarried 20-year-old man.
“Yeah, it’s something I had to do.”
Jenna chose her words carefully and approached the topic delicately. She finally found the courage to bring it up when they were almost at the school.
“I… about the surgery, you know.”
“The surgery?”
“The… vasectomy.”
Jenna hesitated. She felt embarrassed even mentioning the word vasectomy. Her earlier prank seemed insignificant in comparison.
“Um, why did you decide to do that?”
“Can I ask why you made that choice?”
Jenna wanted to know if his decision to have a vasectomy was to have worry-free one-night stands. However, she avoided being too direct and instead carefully worded her question.
With a dry swallow, Jenna waited for his answer, which was brief and somewhat cryptic.
“For money.”
“……?”
Jenna asked again. She was still puzzled. He shrugged casually, as if it were nothing serious, and then elaborated.
“Not a big deal. Just business.”
Jenna remembered a screenshot she saw on Sungchan’s phone.
“I saw that your stepmother called you on your phone.”
Jenna felt a twinge of apprehension.
“My dad remarried.”
“Ah…….”
“A few years ago, my stepmom and dad had a son together.”
Jenna nodded, surprised at the revelation.
They offered me a deal: if I failed to meet the Bai family’s expectations for inheritance, I would manage a building for the rest of my life.
Jenna was surprised by his response. She wondered if she should have brought up the topic, but Sungchan appeared unfazed and continued speaking.
“In exchange for the building, I’ve agreed to stay away from the family assets forever. Everything else goes to her son.”
Jenna was somewhat surprised, having assumed he grew up in a wealthy family.
“Did your mom…?”
“She passed away when I was young.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
Jenna felt a pang of regret, thinking she might have said the wrong thing.
“No, it’s alright; I was going to mention it anyway.”
Sung-chan’s reply carried a hint of loneliness.
“That’s fine. I’ll live modestly without paying rent. I don’t want the family fortune. I believe a man should live within his means. Do you agree?”
Perhaps feeling a little embarrassed about his unusual family history, Sung-chan spoke more openly than usual. Then, with an awkward smile, he added, “It’s about the rumors, isn’t it?”
“What?”
“There are a lot of rumors about me at school.”
“Oh…”
Jenna blushed, feeling embarrassed.
“Just so you know, I’ve never been involved in anything like orgies.”
“I didn’t think that.”
“You’re full of it.”
“Hmmm…”
Sung-chan’s hand was extended towards Jenna, who still looked skeptical. Seeing her disbelief, he said it with embarrassment.
“Here, take it.”
“All of a sudden?”
“Why all of a sudden? Don’t people hold hands when they’re in love?”
“Oh, I get it!”
The truth was, that Sung-chan had never been in a real relationship before. This meant he was clueless about those little moments where couples would naturally hold hands while walking down the street or share popcorn at the movies. Instead, it meant that Jenna could boldly place her hand in his.
However, Jenna was new to romance. She timidly slipped her hand into his hand, affirming her interest hesitantly.
Their hands found an awkward spot between the driver’s and passenger’s seats, but both of their faces were flushed with excitement.
“Is it already hot?”
Sung-chan asked unnecessarily and turned on the air conditioner in the car.
It was already April.
