Not Sober - Chapter 3. Part 3
Chapter 3. Part 3
Sensing her lack of response, Sung-chan fell silent again. Despite his racing heart and feverish state, Jenna’s seemingly indifferent attitude frustrated him.
“Min Jenna,” Sung-chan called out again.
“What?” Jenna replied.
“What do you think when you look at me?” Sung-chan inquired, struggling to contain his frustration.
Jenna pondered for a moment before offering a simple answer. “Handsome?”
“And?” Sung-chan prompted.
“Tall…?” Jenna added uncertainly.
“And?” Sung-chan urged further.
“Um, it seems a little distant,” Jenna continued.
“Go on,” Sung-chan prodded.
“You’re an as$hole for talking…” Jenna trailed off, her frustration showing.
Jenna quietly debated with herself whether to continue, but ultimately decided to voice her thoughts, however irrelevant they might seem. She struggled to find more to say, mustering some semblance of thoughtfulness before speaking.
“That’s all,” she concluded, feeling defeated.
“This is disappointing,” Sung-chan muttered to himself, his mind flooded with thoughts of Jenna.
He wanted to treat her to a nice meal, take her for a drive when she had free time, cook her a proper meal at home, and buy her things he thought she would like. Most of all, he wanted to make sure that she could stand up to guys like that potato head and not let them walk all over her.
There was something strange about his communion with all these thoughts. Would he normally go to such lengths for just one person? Definitely not. Deep down, Jenna knew it wasn’t just about her.
He was simply trying to deny his feelings until the very end.
‘Do I like her? Me? Min Jenna?’ he questioned himself internally.
‘Damn, all she does is jump from person to person and wander around on her own. Do I like her? Why on earth should I?’
“Do you… realize how f*cked up you are?”
He spits nervously at Jenna, who stares at him blankly.
‘You f*cking… s*ck.’ he thought.
‘I was managing just fine on my own, so why do you have to come into my life and mess everything up?’
His anger towards Jenna increased. But that didn’t erase the feelings that were already there.
He never wanted to admit it, but now he had to face the truth.
He had developed strong feelings for her, more than just a crush, and she hadn’t even returned those feelings. She just looked at him with the same detached eyes one would use to admire a well-crafted piece of art.
‘I barely f*cked her once, for Christ’s sake.’
He thought to himself.
There was one thing he had always longed for in his life. Just one.
‘Family.’
He could still vividly recall the pain etched on his father’s face as he cried each night after his mother’s death when he was still a child. He held on to fleeting hopes that his father would remarry and provide him with a new family, but those hopes quickly faded.
After losing both his parents, Sung-chan felt utterly abandoned and alone.
The trauma of that day, the grief of that loss—it was something he never wanted to endure again.
Perhaps it was from that moment on that he stopped trusting anyone who tried to get close to him. If even his own family could abandon him, who could he rely on?
Min Jenna was the first person he ever fell in love with. He couldn’t quite explain why, but her genuine nature made him feel foolish yet comforted, as if he could live his life without pretense.
He couldn’t help wanting to be with her, even though he knew it was unwise.
If Jenna were aware, she’d likely see it as a burden.
After a moment of inner confusion, Sung-chan composed himself and turned to Jenna.
“When does your class end?”
“I have one more in the afternoon.”
“I’ll wait for you, then we can head back to my house.” Sung-chan insisted.
Feeling guilty about leaving him alone to go to school after their meal and sleep yesterday, she nodded.
“Okay, but you don’t have to wait for me. I can just take the subway.”
“Forget the subway. I’ll wait for you. Just meet me in the parking lot when you’re done.”
He added it with a hint of frustration.
“You’re splashing again.”
“It’s not splashing this time, or was it even splashing before?”
Jenna replied, but he still gave her a disapproving look that made her feel like she was being treated like a bad credit customer.
‘What have I done?’ Jenna thought as she sent Sua a message to let her know that she wouldn’t be staying the night.
With a heavy sigh, Jenna made her way to the parking lot after class. Spotting his flashy car wasn’t difficult among the others.
“Get in,” he said curtly, holding the door open for her.
“You didn’t flake this time, did you?” he remarked.
“I told you it wouldn’t happen again.”
“It’s strange; I don’t trust your word.”
“Oh, come on, what did I do? That’s too much.”
“You’re the one who’s too much,” he muttered in response as he started the car.
Half a day later, the house felt more familiar than it did yesterday.
‘I never imagined I’d be back here so soon…’ Jenna thought as she gazed out the window at the passing scenery. Just like yesterday, he interrupted her thoughts with a question.
“What do you want to eat?”
“I don’t mind anything,” Jenna replied, still staring out the window.
“Not just anything,” he insisted.
“Truly, anything is fine.” Jenna trailed off, her attention still captured by the view outside. Then she felt a shadow cast over her head.
“If anything is good enough for you, then my d*ck is good enough for you, right?”
He said, shifting Jenna’s attention from the window to him. He anticipated Jenna to be surprised, but instead, she seemed to ponder for a moment before nodding.
“Isn’t that obvious?”
“…what?”
“Your d*ck was delicious…….”
Jenna’s mouth watered innocently like a child eyeing a piece of candy.
It all made sense now. Why he had let himself be so affected by her?
Even with him right in front of her, Jenna’s eyes narrowed as if she remembered their first encounter. She seemed so casual, as if unaware of the impact of her words.
In the end, it was only his heart that raced wildly this time.
Thud, thud, thud, his heart couldn’t seem to calm down. Annoyed, he turned to Jenna.
“Do you normally do that with just anyone?”
“No? Are you crazy?”
Jenna’s response brought him a strange sense of relief. If she wouldn’t act that way with just anyone, he wondered if he held a special place in Jenna’s heart.
“Well, you were different before you met me.”
“Don’t you ever attach meaning to your first s*x?”
He’d always said he hated women who tried to make their firsts mean something, but now he was begging her to make them mean something.
“You’re blushing.”
Jenna observed Sung-chan’s flushed face and laughed. He seemed to overreact by turning away to conceal his embarrassment.
“Come on, why are you being so dramatic? It’s not that big a deal.”
Watching him, Jenna couldn’t help but think again.
‘This senior is such an as$hole. How can he be so obvious, like a seven-year-old?’
Despite his confident behavior, he didn’t seem to be as smooth with women as she thought.
She felt the same way about him. She thought he was pretty good at relationships, but he only knew how to get attention, not how to make someone like him.
