Inlaid With Jade - Chapter 61
Chapter 61
Temper
When the study returned to peace, Lin Yu’s eyes were red from crying. Li Heming saw that she didn’t want to pay attention to him anymore, but he didn’t know how to comfort her, so he wrapped her in his cloak and took her back. He served her obediently, washed her body, and stuffed her into the warm bed. He was rough and not good at serving others, so the room that Zelan had cleaned became a mess again. Li Heming had to turn over her dresser to find the ointment Lin Yu used to wipe her face and hands at night, making a clanging sound. The powder, hairpins, and rings were in a mess as if robbed.
Li Heming didn’t recognize female things, so he took out all the bottles and jars that Lin Yu used daily and piled them on the table. Finally, he picked up two jars with patterns most similar to the ones she used last night. He asked the person lying on the bed with his back to him, “Do you want to use balm?”
After a while, the person on the bed answered him from the quilt: “No.”
She seemed still angry. Li Heming clearly heard it, but it seemed like he didn’t. He still walked over with two small porcelain jars, lifted the curtain, sat by the bed, opened a porcelain jar, and smelled it. There was no mistake; it was the fragrance she used on her face.
He used his fingers to dig out a large piece of soft balm, rubbed it carefully in his palm until it melted, and turned out Lin Yu, who was hiding in the corner with her back to him.
Lin Yu frowned and looked at him: “What are you doing?”
Li Heming raised his hands: “Wipe your face.”
He looked down at the unhappy person, wanting to rub her cheeks with rough hands covered with calluses. However, seeing her delicate and white skin like soft jade, he could not help but worry that he would hurt her. Ultimately, he had to frown and gently press it on her face.
He was careful and patient, even rubbing a little on Lin Yu’s earlobes. He looked not like an Imperial Guard investigating a case and arresting people but like a father learning to take care of his children for the first time.
Lin Yu’s face was small, only the size of Li Heming’s palm. After rubbing her face, he still had a lot of ointment on his hands, so he wiped her hands with the remaining ointment.
After applying it, he looked at his masterpiece, picked up Lin Yu’s hand, and kissed her slender wrist. Lin Yu was angry with him, but he kissed her naturally. After the kiss, he stuffed her hand under the soft quilt as if nothing had happened.
Lin Yu frowned and stared at him without saying anything. Seeing this, Li Heming stretched out his index finger and scratched her lips: “Why are you pouting? You want to hang the oil bottle?”
Lin Yu had already calmed down a little, but his teasing made her turn over, shrink into the bed, and ignore him.
Li Heming extinguished the candle and went to bed as if he didn’t notice Lin Yu’s embarrassment. After lying down, he stretched out his hand to hug her waist, but as soon as he put his hand on it, Lin Yu pushed him away. This was the first time that Lin Yu had lost her temper with him since they got married. She wasn’t fierce but as gentle as a kitten.
There was no light in the room. Li Heming opened his eyes and adjusted to the dim environment for a while before looking at the back of Lin Yu’s head and asking her, “What are you angry about?”
Lin Yu didn’t answer, and it was clear that she didn’t want to talk to him. She moved further into the bed, pulling away the soft quilt, exposing half of Li Heming’s body to the wind.
Li Heming unhurriedly lifted the quilt, squeezed his body over, stretched out his hand to grab Lin Yu’s five fingers, held them tightly, and continued: “The pee is on me, not you. Why are you angry?”
Unsure whether he wanted to comfort her or add fuel to the fire. Lin Yu blushed and angrily bent her elbow to hit him: “You still say it!”
If other men had heard his wife’s angry words, they should have stopped talking tactfully, but Li Heming seemed to think Lin Yu’s anger was not big enough. He leaned close to her ear and said, “If you feel uncomfortable and embarrassed, I can reluctantly do it on you next time…”
Before he finished speaking, Lin Yu turned over and covered his mouth with her hand, but unfortunately, she couldn’t see clearly and didn’t cover it accurately, so her palm fell on his eyebrows.
He seemed shameless when he spoke in private, and he could say anything. Lin Yu was so embarrassed that she almost cried and interrupted him hurriedly: “What can you do? You’re still saying you’re reluctant. No, there’s no next time!”
Li Heming stopped talking and blinked slowly. His eyelashes swept across her palm, making her feel itchy. Lin Yu retracted her hand, pushed him back to the bed, and used the words of the sages to block his mouth: “Don’t talk when you eat, and keep silent when you sleep. Don’t talk, go to sleep.”
After saying that, she rolled back to her half of the bed from his side.
Li Heming didn’t follow him this time but reached out to touch her hair on the back. His long fingers hooked through the brocade-like black hair. He said calmly, “Qiqi, I’m cold.”
Lin Yu ignored him.
The moonlight shone through the window lattice onto the cold ground, casting a large area of hazy window shadows. The room was quiet for a long time, so long that Lin Yu suddenly heard someone behind her speak again when she was drowsy.
Li Heming opened his eyes, looked at the intricate carvings on the top of the bed, and said, “During the period after my mother left, I often felt that the world was so quiet when I lay in bed at night I was the only one left.”
His voice was slow and not sad, but Lin Yu’s heart softened even though she knew he said it on purpose. She turned over and stuffed herself into his arms, stretched out her hands to hug his waist, and said in a muffled voice: “Don’t use this trick next time.”
Li Heming raised the corners of his mouth slightly, hugged the warm body in his arms with satisfaction, and closed his eyes: “Okay.”
