Inlaid With Jade - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Fake Monk
Li Heming’s evaluation was too meticulous. When he finished speaking, someone rushed over from the corridor as if he couldn’t wait to confirm what he said. He forcefully brushed away the umbrella that Lin Yu used to cover Li Heming’s head and growled: “Do you know whose son he is? Why you’re helping him!”
The man was about the same age as Li Heming, and Lin Yu was not even as tall as his shoulder. The force pulled away the oil-paper umbrella in her hand, and her feet were unstable. She staggered a few steps, screamed, and fell to the side. But the expected pain did not come, and she fell into a not-so-generous wet and cold embrace.
Li Heming reacted quickly and turned around to catch the fallen Lin Yu, but he couldn’t take care of himself. He fell into the mud, and his back hit a sharp stone with a ‘ka.’ He frowned and let out a painful groan. The thin rope around Lin Yu’s waist fell off, and the Yanzhi jade fell into the mud, sinking into a small puddle of rain and disappearing.
The incident happened too quickly. After Lin Yu’s maid reacted, she hurried forward to help Lin Yu up from Li Heming’s body, picked up the umbrella, and held it above her head, blocking her from the man who pushed her: “Miss! Are you hurt?!”
But the rain was heavy, soaking Lin Yu in a few breaths. Li Heming’s clothes were even more dirty. Lin Yu could vaguely see blood in the muddy water under his back. She shook her head at the maid: “I’m fine.” Regardless of the maid’s dissuasion, she squatted down to help Li Heming: “Are you okay?”
Not all students were terrible. Some couldn’t stand it and ran to tell the teacher about the activity in the courtyard. Lin Jing was helping the teacher sort out the students’ articles in the room. When he heard that a little girl had come to the courtyard, he left the old gentleman and rushed over. After seeing Lin Yu soaked in the yard, he was stunned momentarily, then ran towards him: “Little sister!”
Lin Yu raised her head and looked at him helplessly: “Brother…”
Lin Jing removed his outer robe, covered the soaked Lin Yu, and asked her: “Who made you like this?”
He looked down at Li Heming, who was slowly getting up from the ground, then turned his head to look at the culprit who had pushed Lin Yu down and said, “Is it him?”
When she saw Lin Jing’s expression, Lin Yu knew Lin Jing would beat someone up. She didn’t answer rashly but pointed at Li Heming: “Brother, he was injured to protect me.”
The person who pushed Lin Yu didn’t expect she was Lin Jing’s sister. Lin Yu wanted to spare him, but he couldn’t hold back and had to give Lin Jing a chance to beat him up. He said stupidly: “Sorry, Brother Lin, I…”
Lin Jing heard the word “sorry” and didn’t listen to what he said afterward. He punched him in the face directly. The boy’s friend rushed over from the corridor to stop them. Several people wrestled with each other, and the maid hurriedly pulled Lin Yu away. In the end, the old gentleman stopped the farce.
On the way back in the carriage, Lin Jing and Lin Yu sat opposite each other, and they both wet. Lin Yu wore Lin Jing’s coat and looked down at her empty waist.
Seeing that she was distracted, Lin Jing asked, “What’s wrong?”
Lin Yu shook her head, “Nothing, I just dropped something.” She looked up at the bruise on the corner of his mouth, “Brother, does it hurt?”
After asking, she felt that what she said was too stupid. His lips were swollen, so how could it not hurt? She pursed her lips and said slowly, “Did I do something wrong today? You wouldn’t be hurt if I hadn’t meddled in other people’s business.”
Lin Jing reached out to wipe the rainwater off her face, “They teamed up to bully Li Heming, and you helped him out. How could it be wrong? You did a good job and were very brave. I’m so happy. However, next time you encounter this situation, you must look for me if the other side has too many people and you can’t beat them. Understand? If you get hurt, I will feel bad, and so will our parents and sister in the palace.”
Lin Jing was injured like this for her, so Lin Yu naturally agreed to his words. Even if he said that the sun grows at night and the stars rise in the daytime, she would still answer him obediently. She nodded without hesitation: “Yes.”
The two thought they were heroic, but the result was unsatisfactory. After returning home, Lin Jing, who was very good at beating people, knelt in the ancestral hall while Lin Yu recuperated from the cold. They couldn’t go out for half a month.
“Creaky–”
Suddenly, a harsh sound of opening the door interrupted Lin Yu’s thoughts. She withdrew her hand from the rain, raised the umbrella’s rim, and looked at the courtyard on the left where the sound came from. A monk in a gray robe sneaked out of the courtyard, stuffing something into his bosom while walking quickly along the wall.
Lin Yu looked at his pace, which was much more agile than that of other monks in the temple, and thought: Is he a martial monk? Why does he look like a thief?
As she thought so, she saw the monk turn his head thoughtfully and look at Lin Yu through the hazy rain curtain. The two were close to each other, only a dozen steps away. Lin Yu was stunned when she saw the monk’s familiar face, but her face changed immediately.
Last year, on Mrs. Li’s birthday, Lin Yu had met this man at Wang Changzhong’s house. He was a guard of the Wang Mansion. But Wang Changzhong was in prison; why would someone from the mansion be here? And why was he dressed like this?
Lin Yu couldn’t think clearly, but the monk had noticed her unusual reaction. His face changed, and he rushed towards her.
Lin Yu instinctively sensed the danger, threw away the umbrella, and ran back, shouting: “Help–”
But the sound of rain drowned her cry for help, and her speed was not faster than that of a six-foot-tall man. The footsteps quickly approached behind her, and the monk raised his hand. Lin Yu felt the pain in her neck and lost consciousness in an instant.
