I Will Not Fall For the Villain’s Flirtations - Chapter 4 Part 9
“Ah, I want to go back to Luticia again.”
And today, as we returned to our everyday life, Leila complained every five minutes.
It was quite difficult for her to sit still throughout the lesson, since her role of assisting while running around Luticia seemed more suited to her aptitude.
“Things like potions are boring.”
While I received a prescription to refrain from using my powers for a while, excluding practical training, the study of potion-making was an exception. Rather than being absent from class, it was better to at least listen in since I still had to take the potion exam.
Potion-making was also part of the exam. I didn’t have to delve as deeply as the apothecaries, but since healing techniques and potions were closely related, I had to master the basics to pass the exam.
“I have always emphasized that the basis of potion-making is precision! Remember that not adhering to the measurements can lead to various side effects.”
I listened to the instructor’s explanation with my chin resting on the desk. Although there was a slight difference, I also preferred practical training over lectures, so silently sitting and listening didn’t feel quite comfortable.
“Poisons, in particular, are like that. If used correctly, they can become excellent remedies, but if not, they’re no different from biochemical weapons.”
Like botulinum toxin1aka botox, I muttered as I recalled the drug that was often used as an anti-wrinkle remedy in my past life.
“For example, there’s vagra. When used in the right amount, it has a calming effect and can even help with insomnia, but if you overdose, it can cause memory loss. Aside from the common side effect of temporary memory impairment, it can even lead to severe mental retardation.”
Until then, I didn’t have any particular thoughts.
But then.
“There was a recent case of a priest violating the dosage and losing half a year of their memory. You must all understand the risks”
Losing six months of memories?
The moment I heard that story, a bright lightbulb lit up in my mind.
Perhaps, could I use that?
Of course, there were many risks involved. I didn’t have the expertise to determine the right amount, and there was no guarantee that I wouldn’t get caught while breaking into the apothecary.
But putting all of this together, it was clear that that would be much easier than directly stealing the key to the vault from the Pope.
He’s a man who treats me kindly when he doesn’t threaten me, so I’m sure I’ll have a chance. If I could feed him some vagra, maybe I could escape from him.
With a plan forming in my mind, I focused intensely and started listening to the lecture, as if I were possessed.
“Dyuuu, Du! Ah, really.”
Leila pouted at me, frustrated by my lack of response to her notes and whispers, but I didn’t have the leisure to answer such things.
This lecture is my lifeline. So I have no choice but to listen attentively.
“That’s it!”
Thanks to that, I successfully accomplished the feat of creating a fatigue recovery potion in one go.
Although it is a very simple medicine, it is not easy to succeed on the first try. The apothecaries who taught the lecture didn’t spare any compliments with a proud face.
Perhaps because of that, Prim’s gaze attack followed without fail this time as well. But I wasn’t concerned with such trivial matters at the moment. Since I gained recognition from the apothecaries, I made up my mind to be even more proactive and approach him after the class.
“Mr Medin, may I help you move your heavy baggage to the apothecary?”
Even if he rejects me, I intend to seize the opportunity to get into the apothecary by appearing well. Fortunately, the apothecaries gladly accepted my offer.
“If you insist, thank you.”
Smiling inwardly, I held the cabinet containing the vials and followed behind him. As expected, the apothecary we soon entered had many prepared potions.
“Oh, you can put that on the desk over there.”
“Yes.”
Carefully gliding along the shelves with the cabinet full of vials, I gently placed the wooden cabinet down. I picked up the remaining medicine from today’s class and glanced in his direction.
“Mr Medin, should I put the remaining batimen on the shelf?”
“Oh, no. I’ll just leave it there, and I’ll take care of the rest.”
“No, all I have to do is find the labels, I’ll put them away.”
“Really? Thanks.”
After confirming that Mr Medin was busy organizing the ingredients, I quietly entered the inner part of the shelf. Although the place where batimen was located was right in front of me, I purposely turned around as if I couldn’t find it.
With the various flasks within sight, it felt like I was in a chemistry lab from a previous life. I scanned each row quickly with the eyes of an eagle, making an effort to find vagra.
Fortunately, I was able to find what I wanted before arousing suspicion. Secretly celebrating, I swiftly grabbed a bottle from inside and hid it in my sleeve.
“Ah, here it is.”
Turning back to the front, I pretended to find the section where batimen was located and murmured to myself.
Since I had obtained what I needed, there was no need to linger any longer. I casually dusted off my hands and greeted him with an innocent smile.
“I’ll be going now.”
“Yeah, thanks. See you in the next class.”
It seems that things are going so well, maybe I wasn’t doomed to die just yet.
I came out of the apothecary and screamed silently, jumping up and down in the empty corridor. I felt like dancing with joy, but I barely held back because of my dignity, which didn’t mean much.
Soon, I would be free from that annoying brat of a spy!
I’ll be too caught up in happiness and forget everything just to embrace that.
The fact that this world is not so generous towards insignificant supporting roles.
* * *
The plan is mostly ready.
I’d checked the literature to see how much vagra had been abused in cases of mental retardation. Instead of using a significantly smaller amount, I planned to use much more than the usual dosage for treatment.
I don’t even expect half a year. I just need to erase his memories after meeting me!
The effect of the potion tends to vary for each person, so there’s no guarantee that it will work fully, but I prayed with all my might, begging for it to work.
Despite praying so desperately right now, for the past twenty years of my life, I never had a day where I prayed so earnestly. I wondered if they wouldn’t grant me this much as a human.
The problem is, just like last time, I have no way of finding Keene.
He managed to find me through the device implanted under my ear, but I had no way to call for him.
“Keene? Keeeeene.”
I wondered if he could hear my voice, so I called him several times, but there was no response for over ten minutes.
“I guess he can’t hear me.”
I thought it was a good thing, but at the same time, it was frustrating. How can I find this man and where should I go?
There are only three days left until the deadline to bring the key. I had to meet him before that, and I was worried if he would come exactly after three days.
After much deliberation, I decided to try one new attempt.
“I don’t know if this will work, but….”
The place I went after leaving my lodgings was none other than the East Building. I thought about it because he would always appear like a ghost whenever I visited the East Building. It has only happened twice, but it’s worth a shot.
The front of the building was empty, perhaps everyone had gone to the dining hall. Even though I purposely walked slowly, I didn’t feel any signs of human presence except for my footsteps.
“Maybe I was just unlucky back then.”
Still, since I came all the way here, I thought I might as well go in. But as expected, the person I hoped to see was nowhere to be found.
“This guy never appears when he’s absolutely necessary.”
I gritted my teeth and went up the stairs. I was hopeful in case we encountered each other on the stairs like last time.
If we can’t meet in the end, I’ll have to try on the last day, no matter what.
It happened when I reached the second floor, moving my legs at a speed comparable to a turtle. I felt something like a breeze wrap around me, and then an intangible force yanked me downward.
“What!”
The place where I landed as if I were falling turned out to be someone’s embrace. A lively man embraced me with one arm and playfully tapped my nose with his other hand.
“You really can’t do it, Du.”
“…Keene?”
Wow, you really appeared!
At this point, I was starting to think that there might be some special device planted around the East Building.
Despite my expectations, I stared at the other person dumbfounded. He spoke with a face that didn’t show a trace of a smile.
“I think I need to know that guy’s name.”
“What?”
“He’s the knight who supposedly has a secret crush on you.”
He grumbled while holding my cheek.
“He must have put some honey on you. Otherwise, why do you keep coming back.”
“…….”
He sounds really jealous when he says it like that.
Suppressing the rising heat that made me want to retort, I distanced myself from him. Looking at that damn man’s eyes felt like I would get sucked in, so it would be easier to keep a sufficient distance so I could say what needed to be said.
“In fact, I was waiting for you, Keene.”
“…Is that person really that important to you?”
“No, not really.”
Cutting off the nonsense, I spoke seriously.
“Since you always show up when I come to the East Building, I came here to look for you. I didn’t really expect to meet you though.”
His eyes said he didn’t trust it at all, so I defended myself with a somewhat unfair expression.
“If I came to meet someone else, I wouldn’t have come now. Everyone went out to eat. Look, it’s completely empty.”
“Hmm.”
Narrowing his eyes in disbelief, he pressed his palm to my forehead. When I furrowed my eyebrows at his incomprehensible action, he muttered quietly.
“It’s strange, you don’t have a fever.”
“…Why would you suddenly think I have a fever?”
“Because Du did something cute, so I found it strange.”
“…….”
I immediately waved his hand away with a loud sound and went straight to the point.
“I have a favor to ask.”
“A favor?”
This was an important moment. With a nervous heart, I swallowed my saliva and looked up at him.
“Can you take me there one more time?”
“There? The restaurant? Or Rosenwood?”
“The restaurant.”
Since we hadn’t been to many places together, there was no need to explain further. I put on an earnest look, as if I desperately wanted it, then continued speaking.
