I Am Trying to Divorce My Villain Husband, But We Had a Child - chapter 25
Episode 25
“Ri, Richard, thi-this is, well…”
Nervous, Elisa took a step back, like prey standing in front of a predator.
Richard, who was watching Elisa with frightened eyes, reached out behind her.
“…you’ll catch a cold.”
A warm something covered Elisa’s shoulders, making her startled.
It was a blanket made of white fur.
“Go to sleep first. Don’t worry about what the Duke said.”
After covering Elisa with the blanket, Richard turned and headed to the balcony.
As he moved away, Elisa’s frozen state thawed into confusion.
“Richard probably didn’t think anything, and I was just being silly by myself.”
She raised her head belatedly to express her gratitude, but he was no longer there.
“Richard?”
Elisa, who was staring blankly at the balcony he had gone to, headed to the dressing room.
Because she was wearing thin clothes on such a cold day, her whole body felt frozen.
Elisa changed into suitable nightwear and returned to bed. As she buried herself under the warm blanket, her tension eased, making her body feel heavy.
It felt like sleep would come any moment. Yet, her gaze remained fixed on the balcony where he had disappeared.
“It must be cold…”
Elisa, who was waiting for Richard to return, gradually closed her eyes.
After Elisa fell asleep, Richard returned.
He quietly approached the bed and sat down.
Elisa was sleeping in a position facing towards the balcony.
Richard gently lifted the edge of Elisa’s blanket and looked at her intently.
Elisa’s delicate hand lay in front of her face.
Looking at her hand, Richard cautiously intertwined his fingers with hers.
The face of Elisa who had looked at him with fear just a moment ago overlapped with the serene face of her asleep.
Elisa felt awkward and scared. Even the slightest touch seemed to startle her.
“What can I say to someone like her…”
Thinking of Albert, who had tried to force himself on Elisa, Richard gritted his teeth.
In fact, the moment he saw Elisa entering the bedroom in such attire, he was captured by an irresistible desire.
He wanted to confine her in his embrace immediately and explore every inch of her, from head to toe, savoring every bit of her.
Every tear, every breath.
But seeing Elisa looking at him with frightened eyes, the last strand of rationality restrained his desire.
Although he had longed for this moment desperately, it couldn’t happen like this.
He was afraid of hurting her by losing control again. So, he turned away.
“…I’ll wait. Elisa.”
Until you come to expect me by your side, until you get used to my warmth.
Richard kissed Elisa’s fingertips and lay down beside her.
Eventually, sleep found him too.
*
And so, a week passed.
Elisa, who had finished bathing, entered the bedroom. As expected, Richard was nowhere to be seen.
“He must have gone out.”
Since the incident a week ago, Richard had emptied the bedroom every night.
He wouldn’t return while Elisa was awake, only coming back quietly once she had fallen asleep.
And he would leave the room before Elisa woke up.
At first, Elisa was grateful that he was giving her space to avoid awkwardness, but after a week, she started to worry.
“Is he sleeping properly? It’s already cold outside, is it okay for him to stay out for so long…”
Elisa couldn’t sleep for a long time due to her worries.
How much time had passed like this?
She felt a large shadow looming over the balcony.
Elisa saw it and sat up.
“Richard.”
Richard, who was just entering the bedroom, looked slightly surprised to see Elisa awake, as if he hadn’t expected it.
“If you’re leaving every night because of me, please don’t.”
Elisa said with a worried look in her eyes.
“Wouldn’t it be better if we used separate rooms?”
Albert had gotten angry when he found out there was nothing between Elisa and Richard, but he couldn’t drive the maids away as he had threatened.
Now, there were more people in the castle who followed Richard’s intentions. So, if Richard wanted, he could use separate rooms.
However, using separate rooms was not at all pleasing to Richard.
He wanted to watch over her as she slept, and he wanted to sleep beside her.
Richard briefly explained his plausible reasons.
“Still, it seems quieter to use the same room for a while.”
“But then, you’ll be uncomfortable.”
“I won’t be uncomfortable.”
“Then why do you leave every night?”
“I just… i like to take walks.”
Elisa’s eyes sparkled at his excuse that sounded like a mumble.
“Is flying not the same as walking?”
“…Do you want to try?”
“Now?”
As Richard nodded, Elisa came over to him without any hesitation.
When an interesting topic arose, Richard chuckled at her approach, as if wondering when she had ever been cautious around him.
“First, dress warmly.”
Elisa followed Richard’s instructions and came out of the dressing room wearing a thick fur-lined robe.
Richard added another thick blanket around Elisa’s shoulders. For her, who was not used to the winter wind of the upper sky, it was quite biting.
The two of them, ready, went out to the balcony. The bedroom was on one of the highest floors of the castle.
At first, Elisa, who was blinking with curiosity, showed signs of fear.
“…It won’t fall, right?”
Seeing Elisa’s fearful expression, Richard, who had been silently watching her, spoke up.
“There’s no chance of that if you’re holding onto me.”
In other words, to fly, she had to hold onto him securely.
After hesitating for a moment, Elisa approached him and tightly grasped his arm with both hands.
Richard swallowed the laughter that was about to burst out and responded.
“It’ll probably fall easily like this.”
Then, he hugged Elisa.
Elisa, momentarily frozen in surprise, felt the height of the high-rise building before her, tightly wrapped her arms around his neck, and earnestly pleaded.
“I must not let go under any circumstances.”
Seeing Elisa approach him without hesitation, Richard raised the corners of his lips.
If flying with her would have been dangerous from the outset, he wouldn’t have offered to take her. It was worth the lie.
Richard tightly embraced her and replied.
“Understood.”
Having prepared himself, Richard stirred up the wind around them. Soon, the two of them began to rise.
Sensing this, Elisa buried her face in Richard’s neck and closed her eyes tightly.
Although she couldn’t see anything, the chilly wind brushing against her cheek reminded her that she was in the wind.
After some time passed and Elisa’s cheeks grew numb, Richard’s voice echoed in her ears.
“Elisa. Open your eyes slowly.”
Upon hearing his voice, Elisa slowly opened her eyes.
Elisa tightly clung to Richard’s neck and slowly turned her head. And before her eyes spread out a picturesque scene.
“Wow…”
Snow-capped peaks in the distance were reflecting the moonlight, sparkling, and below were vast snowy plains and coniferous forests.
Here and there were small villages and frozen lakes.
And there was also the view of the silent castle with lights twinkling in the dark.
This tranquil landscape was breathtakingly beautiful. The beauty of it made her heart race.
“I, I don’t think I’ll ever forget this view forever.”
Even after I leave Rubelin.
Elisa embedded this unforgettable scenery in her eyes and memory.
Richard, holding her tightly in his arms, gazed into her eyes, seeing Rubelin’s scenery reflected in her pupils.
It was a scenery he would never forget either.
Albert was impatient.
Until now, he had endured, determined not to close his eyes like this, but now he instinctively felt that he didn’t have much time left.
But there was no news from the people who could fulfill his wish.
Albert suffered between the terrible helplessness and the gnawing away of his life day by day.
He couldn’t just lie there waiting anymore. He had to do whatever he could.
Feeling the horrifying helplessness and frustration, he called his advisor, Aaron.
“Prepare.”
Even if he couldn’t see the born child, he had to know that Rubelin’s seed was growing in the womb.
*
The next evening.
After finishing bathing and returning to the room, Richard looked at the empty vanity and recalled today’s events.
Earlier in the day, when Richard briefly returned to the room, he encountered maids carrying Elisa’s dresses somewhere.
“Where are you taking those?”
“His Highness assigned a new room for the Madam.”
Richard furrowed his brows. That meant Elisa and him would be using separate rooms.
“Why the sudden change?”
She had been desperate to keep Elisa by her side in any way possible.
But suddenly assigning a different room? Something was suspicious.
As Richard pondered the abrupt change in Albert’s attitude, someone knocked on the door.
“Who could it be at this hour?”
Richard opened the door with a puzzled expression.
As he looked at the late-night visitor, Richard’s gaze subtly wavered.
