04. The Secret Shop (3)
Translated by: ???????
“Okay, I’ll take Mark 1 for now. What’s the code?”
“It’s 1234765!”
“Good, it’s simple. Oh, and there’s something I need you to make for me first..”
Eve moved closer and explained something to Octavia in a low voice. Octavia nodded and listened intently, her eyes shining like stars again.
“Do you think it’s possible?”
“That’s amazing! I never knew you could use a mage’s mana like that. I can make it the way you described, but I’ll need some parts of the subject’s body….”
“Like hair, nails or bodily fluids?”
“Yes…!”
“I’ll see about getting those. Just make sure you finish the last part quickly. Oh, and… This one can be made a little slower, but I want you to make sure that…… The …….”
Eve’s voice trailed off once again. This time, it wasn’t for security reasons, but because she was a little embarrassed. Octavia’s cheeks grew even brighter as she listened.
“Uh-oh. Oh my. Well, that’s… completely possible in theory.”
“We can give it a generous time frame.”
“But the problem is… I haven’t seen the real thing in person yet.”
“No, what have you been doing at that age?”
“What do you mean, at that age? I’m not even twenty-one yet.”
“Heh… mmm…. It doesn’t have to be in the shape of the real thing, it can be streamlined like this… with smooth lines like this…… Hmm? It’s like a long, round cylinder…… you know, with a little bit of a curve to it, like this…”
“Oh… Ohhh…”
Eve explained as she diligently traced a soft curve with her hand, and the twenty-one-year-old genius inventor listened to her explanation with a long nod.
“So even if you don’t move your ass, when you turn it on, it will go up and down like that, step-by-step…”
“Aha… Oh… Wow…”
“The back and forth oscillating motion… Is the most important part.”
“Whoa… Oooh…!”
After a long explanation, the two smiled proudly and shook their hands. Between Eve’s enthusiastic explanation and Octavia’s equally enthusiastic spirit, she had a feeling that the prototype would be a success.
Although Octavia was only half-bonded to Eve through intimidation, she was an engineer and mage by nature, who loves to research, experiment, and invent in her laboratory.
By simply giving her new materials to invent and ideas to explore, Octavia found herself looking at Eve with such fondness that she had forgotten all about the fearsome woman she had met before she signed the contract. Of course, Eve believed that this inexplicable change in her was due to the fact that this was inside the world of a game.
The reason she had never seen the light of the day, despite her brilliant inventions, and ran an old dilapidated magic shop to sell unauthorized herbs and reagents for a living in the corner of East Plumen was mostly because her magical achievement itself was only limited to two circles, and was also because she was a mixed-race catsy, which is a cat person.
Octavia’s identity wasn’t revealed in the game, but the scripted conversations with shop NPCs that appear whenever you visit a shop are enough to give you an idea of the disregard and disdain she’s received.
If she was as good as she appeared to be in the game, half-breed or not, there should be enough people willing to treat her well, at least for the two years she had promised. Eve folded Octavia’s contract into her arms and reached for her purse.
“Well, then, what I want you to do is to get this thing into production as soon as possible. Let me know if you need anything else, and here’s your development fee.”
A bunch of bills popped out of her purse. Octavia’s eyes widened in surprise at the thickness of the bills, which she hadn’t seen in her three months of hard work while selling potions and herbs.
“You’re not supposed to save money on product development. Don’t spare any ingredients and study them. Of course, if the quality is satisfactory, we will also give incentives after completion.”
“This.. This much… Are you sure I can take this money?”
“All I want is the best quality stuff.”
“Oh my God, young lady, I will make you my master for life!”
Leaving behind Octavia’s cries of loyalty with her voice cracking with emotion, Eve finally walked out of the shop.
She clasped her hands together, while Octavia watched her leaving back as she closed the dilapidated entrance door behind her, her eyes still glowing, she then muttered, with a face full of ecstasy,
“At last, the prophecy…”
As Octavia exclaimed in excitement. She was looking as if she didn’t mind being forced into a two-year bondage contract. She recalled that the “Word” that had come down to her didn’t end here. The prophecy had also led her to a faraway church. After mentally calculating the cost of the carriage, she hurriedly prepared to leave.
Meanwhile Eve felt like spring was in her step at the thought of having successfully completed one task. Now all that remained was to find a leather workshop and a store that sold adult toys.
That’s easy enough, she thought lightly, but then she glanced at the slip of paper with the address of the leather workshop on it, and then back at her surroundings. Try as she might to deny it, she had to accept that she was lost.
“Oh, this is the right place… That’s weird… It must be around here…”
Eve read the paper again.
?319 Manew Street, East Plumen District…?
“No, this is 320, there must be a 319 nearby, why isn’t it here, why can’t I find it, why!?”
In a mild panic, Eve looked back and forth between the note and the sign that said 320th Street.
After all the fun she’d had yesterday, she was more than willing to order a paddle 1Paddle: is a long, rectangular, oar-shaped spinning tool, but if she couldn’t find a workshop, she was out of luck.
With a crop whip, she could at least try to explain it similarly by comparing it to a horse whip, but with a paddle, she’d most likely be told to find a workshop that makes spatulas, so she’d have to go in person, throw money in their face, and explain the beauty of a leather paddle.
And if she could afford it, she was going to order not only a paddle, but also a flogger whip, which is a two-stranded whip with a multi-pronged tail that comes together at the end, and another whip with a multi-stranded tail. She would need to place the order quickly and ask around for stores that carried “Cute” toys. Eve’s mind was racing, she picked herself up and started walking forward.
She ducked and weaved her way through the streets until she found herself in a dingy alleyway far from the main street. She was about to turn back when she realized that she wasn’t supposed to be here, and in the distance she spotted a gentleman surrounded by a group of grim-looking men, who seemed to be in trouble.
The street thugs surrounded an untidy gentleman who looked like he had no business being on the east side of the river. It looked like they were in the midst of a scramble.
Eve was about to walk past them, thinking she’d caught a bargain, when she suddenly realized that the tall gentleman rolling his eyes among the shabbily dressed men looked vaguely familiar, and she stopped and stared…
‘Wait, isn’t that William…?’
Eve gasped as she realized who he was. It was William Lancaster, he was one of the Male lead’s of the game, the Archduke of the North, and uncle to the Crown Prince. It was a face she’d seen a couple of times in the game before. There was no way she wouldn’t recognize him in 3D.
Eve quickly scanned the man’s entire body, wondering what the hell this nobleman was doing crawling out this far east of the river. He had been described in the game as an expert marksman with a shotgun, but nowhere on his body did she see a firearm.
Eve briefly considered ignoring him and walking away, but when the men surrounding the unarmed man began to draw their own weapons, she held her tongue.
She cleared her throat and slowly approached them, the back of the shabbily dressed thug, wearing a flat woolen flat cap, came into clear view.
Without hesitation, Eve picked up a rock half a fist’s length from the ground and hurled it at the back of his head. Using the strength of her shoulders, she threw the chunky stone back and forth, her form perfect, like a pitcher throwing a baseball.
Bam!
“Ugh…….”
“What the fuck?”
“What the heck!”
The wolf-headed man with the rock stuck at the back of his head lurched forward. Unable to utter a proper scream, the other two watched as their companion fell. They instantly jumped to their feet, snarling and looking behind them.
Eve’s side of the alley was square, so they wouldn’t be able to see her from that side. Eve loosened the coarse hemp rope she had carefully wrapped around her thighs at the entrance of the alley and held it in her hand.
It was her first real fight since becoming ‘Eve‘. She felt her mouth go dry with tension, but she couldn’t stop one corner of her mouth from twitching upward. She could feel her heart pumping and the blood rushing to her fingertips. She was a fighter by nature.
Hand-to-hand combat with wire or rope was her favorite method, especially hand-to-hand combat, where the goal was to subdue an opponent without killing them. Wrapping both ends of the rope around her hands, Eve gauged her opponent’s distance, her ears picking up the sound of the beast-like snarl.
Mentally mapping out a rough course of action, she took three or four steps backward, then with a swift kick of her foot, she quickly kicked up the worn stone wall, grabbed hold of the old dusty window frame, and deftly clung to the cramped railing of the window.
