Although William’s men were all skilled knights, they weren’t powerful enough to overcome the numerical disadvantage.
However, Eve remained calm despite the knights closing in on her. Resting the blunt side of her machete on her shoulder, she pointed at them with a smirk.
“Go, Sunho-mon1I think this is based on how pokemons are ordered to attack.!”
“That’s harsh.”
“You should be crying, ‘Sun-o, Sun-o.’”
Ignoring her teasing, William, his face an impassive mask, swept his spear, deflecting the incoming swords with a single, swift motion.
“If I get hit even once, I won’t be able to get married. Ahh, such a hateful person~2From the song, “Hateful Person” (?? ??) by Yoon Hyung-joo.”
Eve hummed, changing the lyrics of the song, prompting William, who couldn’t take it anymore, to yell:
“This is serious! Stop joking around…!”
“Huh? Getting tired already? Did you slack off on your training? Your moves are sloppy.”
Provoked by Eve’s teasing, William gritted his teeth and adjusted his grip on his spear, rotating the shaft.
As a rule, those who awakened with combat abilities were required to be proficient in various weapons. However, they usually had one or two weapons they were particularly adept at. Although he had been forced to wield a spear due to Eve’s insistence when he first chose his weapon, he was surprisingly skilled with it.
William spun the spear shaft rapidly, slashing at the enemies surrounding him. He then skillfully maneuvered the spearhead, deflecting an incoming blade and closing the distance with the swordsman, slipping past his guard.
Edward, who had no prior knowledge of William’s combat skills, paled slightly and muttered, “…I didn’t know he had such skills.”
Eve glanced at William, who was effortlessly fending off five knights simultaneously, then, without even looking, swiftly struck the wrist of the knight charging at her with the blunt side of her machete.
A cracking sound resonated as the knight’s wrist bone shattered, and his sword clattered to the ground. Eve finally turned to face him, spinning her body and delivering a powerful kick to his head.
Thwack!
A terrifying whooshing sound, followed by a loud thud, echoed through the hall. The knight collapsed, unconscious.
Eve, who had been effortlessly knocking out the men who dared to approach her, turned her attention towards Edward. He was gesturing towards Castel.
‘Oh no, a Swordmaster is totally overpowered.’
Eve kicked off the ground and charged towards Castel, who was looking at William.
“What are you looking at? Your opponent is obviously me!”
Eve leaped into the air, her killing intent clear. Castel, reading her movement, swiftly drew his sword, blocking the heavy blue blade that came crashing down on him.
A grating, earsplitting screech resonated as their blades clashed. The impact sent both their swords flying from their hands.
The crude machete, designed for hacking and smashing, was no match for the double-edged longsword, crafted for slicing and thrusting. Castel glanced at the slightly chipped blade of his sword before swiftly enveloping it in an aura. Eve, observing him, let out a short chuckle and coated her machete with an aura as well.
Edward, who had been standing close to Castel, had retreated to the back. However, seemingly still worried about his subordinate, Castel gradually pushed Eve back, forcing her deeper into the temple. Eve didn’t resist, simply deflecting or parrying his attacks as she retreated.
Castel suddenly changed his attack trajectory, aiming for her side. Eve quickly backpedaled, barely dodging the longsword, and raised her weapon in a defensive stance, chuckling.
“You’re going easy on me.”
“…I have orders to capture you alive.”
“Didn’t he say a broken limb or two wouldn’t matter?”
“…..”
“You’ll get hurt if you keep letting your guard down, Sir Castel. I’ve gotten quite good at controlling my aura lately.”
“It seems so.”
Castel’s lips curved into a soft smile, and he chuckled, ‘Heh.’ Startled by the unexpected sight of his smile, Eve momentarily froze, her expression bewildered.
Castel, seeing her reaction, resumed his offensive, adding, “…I’ll be fine.”
Before Eve could respond, Castel’s sword came slashing down at her. She parried the blow, redirecting the blade away from her thigh while aiming her machete at his neck. However, she couldn’t shake off the strange feeling that had settled in her chest.
‘What is this? What’s going on? He said he’d be fine even if he gets hurt? Are you using seduction tactics on me? This bear-like guy is actually a cunning fox?’
Castel’s attacks were deliberately aimed at non-vital areas. Thanks to this, Eve was able to defend herself with ease. With a puzzled expression, she continued parrying his attacks, occasionally glancing towards Edward.
From an outsider’s perspective, it would appear as if she was being pushed back by Castel’s relentless assault. They were now quite far apart, and she couldn’t hear what Edward was saying, but he was clearly giving instructions to Callisto.
Once Callisto’s magic was activated, it would be incredibly difficult to counter. She couldn’t afford to waste any more time.
Eve glanced at the unconscious knights scattered across the floor, William’s remaining knights still fighting valiantly, and William himself, holding off the rest of the enemies with his spear. She then turned her attention back to the knight standing before her. Even though he had witnessed her looking away, he remained silent, diligently swinging his sword with unwavering precision.
“This might be a bit dangerous.”
Eve grinned mischievously, delivering a warning before releasing her aura, making it explode like a bomb around her machete. It was a technique she had learned in her previous life, one that lacked lethal force but was effective for creating a shockwave to deter opponents or create distance.
Boom!
Caught off guard, Castel, who hadn’t anticipated the aura explosion, instinctively leaped backward. Eve, who had already calculated the distance between them and the altar behind him, tossed her machete to the ground and, without looking back, dashed towards the altar.
She swiftly drew a dagger from her pocket, slashed her left palm, then retrieved the crystal from her subspace pouch and grasped it tightly with her injured hand.
“No! Stop her!”
A desperate cry rang out from behind, but Eve, having reached the altar, placed the blood-stained crystal upon it.
At that moment, a brilliant beam of light erupted from the circular opening in the ceiling. The pure white light cascaded down like a waterfall, engulfing the altar.
Sparkling, multicolored drops of light trickled down Eve’s stoic face.
Despite being bathed in blindingly bright light, Eve stared straight ahead, her expression unwavering, as if determined not to miss a single moment.
Fragments of light intertwined, swirling in the air. Then, a series of scenes flashed through her mind, like a panorama.
There was a woman, her face gaunt, tears streaming down her bloodstained cheeks. Her hair was chopped short in an uneven, haphazard manner, as if she had endured immense suffering. The woman was Eve. She was Eve, and yet, she was also herself.
A halo of light gently enveloped the woman, who was clutching her swollen stomach, crying out for death. The light embraced her shattered soul, fragmented and on the verge of breaking, and drifted through worlds, through dimensions. Finally, it reached a realm free from constraints and transplanted the broken soul into a new vessel.
“Ah… Ah…”
Her fingertips trembled. The fragmented memories, which she had firmly believed to be remnants of a ?game?, were now coming to life, gaining a sense of reality and depth.
The images from the screen began to stir and writhe, engulfing Ju-yeong, engulfing Eve. It was… it was…
Eve’s body trembled violently, consumed by an overwhelming rage.
She finally realized. Everything she had dismissed as game events were her past, her future.
Ju-yeong hadn’t become Eve. Eve had become Ju-yeong. As the order of events was reestablished, a flood of memories, vast and overwhelming, surged into her mind.
The horrifying fragments of her past, buried deep within her subconscious, reassembled, forming a complete picture. Eve felt the shattered pieces of her memories merging, forming a coherent whole. The agonizing cries of her prayers, echoing through her mind countless times, resonated in her ears.
A sharp ringing filled her ears, followed by a piercing pain, as if a spike was being driven into her skull.
She had suspected it all along. This world was no mere game, and her presence here was no accident. Ever since she had accepted her identity as Eve, she had harbored doubts.
Even when her memories were fragmented, her body instinctively recognized and reacted to the ?enemies? who had hurt her. She had finally found the source of the inexplicable rage that had haunted her.
“…I should have killed those bastards.”
A voice, trembling with rage, seeped out from between her clenched teeth, laced with venom. She felt a burning sensation in her stomach, as if she had swallowed a hot coal. Her vision blurred.
Eve raised a hand to her face, wiping away the liquid trickling down her cheek. Tears, tinged with red, stained her cheeks.
