12. The Rough Emperor, the Anxious Grand Duke, and the Nobles Who Are Watching Them (2)

As they exited through the door connected to the Long Gallery, the crowd quickly dissipated. The two of them passed through the now quiet corridor and ascended the stairs to the second floor. Then, turning left, they walked down a long hallway until they spotted a man standing with his arms crossed, leaning against the wall.
“Lord Callisto.”
Callisto, with his disheveled pink hair roughly pushed back, gave a casual nod in response to Alberic’s greeting.
“Go on in. They’ve been waiting.”
Eve couldn’t help but think how unusually quiet the corridor was on such a busy day. She realized that, being in the Emperor’s domain, even as the Crown Prince, he couldn’t increase the number of guards as he pleased. It seemed that Callisto’s magic had concealed the lounge for protection. Of course, this too went against convention, but it was better than openly increasing the number of knights.
As Eve briefly fixed her gaze on Alberic’s back and prepared to follow him inside, she suddenly felt a strong grip on her arm, causing her to halt.
“Just wait here for a moment.”
It was a fiery gaze, as if ready for vengeance. Eve couldn’t help but wonder if he was contemplating some form of retaliation. With that thought crossing her mind, Eve, without opening the door, halted her steps upon hearing the familiar voice from behind. She turned around and gave a wide smile to Alberic.
“Go inside and take care of your business. I’ll wait here.”
Alberic, who had been observing Eve’s hesitant expression for a moment, let out a small sigh and murmured, “Don’t get into trouble,” before opening the door and entering inside.
Callisto, who had been discreetly watching the door close, briefly checked if there were no nearby listeners and then tightened his grip on Eve’s arm, revealing his true intentions.
“You.”
“Long time no see, huh? How have you been?”
“Ha, that’s not what this is about…”
“I never knew you could pretend not to know someone your whole life. When you need something from me, you suddenly show up. What do you want from me now?”
“……”
“By the way, didn’t you run away, swearing that you would find a way to get back at me? You’ve been surprisingly silent about that, haven’t you?”
Callisto was speechless with Eve’s audacious retort. A faint buzzing sound reached Eve’s ears. With her posture straight and without a smile, Eve locked eyes with Callisto. The two of them, without any further words, silently observed each other’s inner thoughts while solely gazing into each other’s eyes for a brief moment.
Within the purple irises, hidden emotions simmered like lava—anger, shame, and a faint desire.
Seemingly unable to find any clues to Eve’s emotions within her eyes, the man finally managed to speak, his expression contorted.
“What did you do to me?”
“Why? What?”
“Because of you!”
Callisto’s voice suddenly rose, fueled by overwhelming emotions. Then, as if becoming aware of the presence of others behind the door, he quickly closed his mouth and bit his lip.
“Because of you. That memory… it’s haunting me… You damn, wretched woman!”
“That memory?”
As Callisto spat out his accusations, each word uttered in a low voice, the air around him grew increasingly heated. Eve quickly realized what he was so passionately expressing his grievances about and in an instant, she looked down at him with the eyes of a predator.
“Aha.”
Suddenly, Callisto’s body was pushed against the thick door. Eve pressed herself tightly against him, sliding her thigh between his legs, and whispered softly.
“Did you enjoy it so much?”
“Shut up…!”
“It would be better to keep quiet. An important person is having a private conversation behind the door.”
“You wicked…!”
She was like a predator, ready to strike and devour her prey. As her persistent gaze drew closer, Callisto’s complexion noticeably paled. Eve bit her lip, grasped the man’s jaw forcefully, and turned his face towards her with strength, forcing him to look at her.
That day, due to one person lying down, it was difficult to accurately compare their heights, so Eve didn’t realize that her height was similar to Callisto, who had the appearance of an adult. Taken aback by Eve’s unexpected assertiveness, Callisto unconsciously clenched his fist.
And in that moment, a hushed whisper escaped, carrying explicit words.
“Did you enjoy being roughly treated in your back hole so much? So much that you couldn’t forget for such a long time?”
“You, you…!”
“What’s the reason for doing this now, huh? It’s not like you came here just to leave a five-star review for a great ass poking.”
“You crazy, you’re talking nonsense!”
“Shh…”
Eve turned her gaze and glanced at the man’s back. Callisto, aware of the firm touch of the door against his back, shut his lips. His fiery glare was still intense, but such a look couldn’t even melt the heart of a playful kitten in Eve’s eyes.
“Ah, you want to be molested again, is that it? Right?”
“Ha…!”
“If you want to play with me again, you shouldn’t curse and get angry.”
Eve’s gaze intertwined with the man’s. Her fingertips gently brushed over the soft skin of his lower lip, lingering tenderly without haste.
“You should kneel down at my feet and beg cutely, clinging onto me.”
Callisto felt a heavy, throbbing pain in one side of his chest as if a heavy boulder had fallen down his heart.
With a flushed face, he forcefully pushed away Eve’s arm with a loud thud. He tossed her arm aside and swiftly retreated from her embrace. Watching his retreating figure, Eve adjusted her posture, leaning against the wall with her back like Callisto earlier, crossing her arms as if guarding the door.
‘Man, look at him throwing a tantrum.’
Pretending not to notice any issue with her own temperament, Eve turned her head and casually criticized the man’s character, waiting for a moment. It didn’t take long before Alberic emerged from the outside with a puzzled expression.
He inquired about Callisto’s whereabouts, but since the man who stormed off didn’t leave any indication of where he was going, Eve merely shrugged her shoulders.
“Perhaps you’ve rubbed him the wrong way, as always.”
“Can’t deny that, but it’s not like I was actively trying.”
“Let’s go. It seems that man is in the lounge.”
Alberic, who seemed visibly annoyed by Eve’s retort, adjusted his glasses and turned his head, leading Eve back along the path they came from.
The task assigned to Eve was to observe who William Lancaster would meet throughout the day. Strictly speaking, it was to monitor whether he had any contact with the second prince’s people.
Eve grumbled, questioning why she had to do it, but as soon as she heard the amount of the ?reward? Alberic mentioned in an irritated tone, she quickly changed her stance.
Aside from Eve, there were others secretly monitoring the man’s whereabouts. However, most of them were knights assigned to protect the Crown Prince, so there was a risk that their tails would be discovered if one were to tread recklessly.
In other words, Eve was the personnel who could observe him without the fear of being exposed.
Even if they were to notice that she was keeping an eye on the man, they would never suspect a noble lady to rudely tail someone. It could be seen as a cunning strategy.
As Eve entered the large men’s lounge, her gaze quickly scanned the interior. The most eye-catching feature was a billiard table, adorned with extravagant and intricately carved wavy decorations in a deep burgundy color, unlike the typical pool tables. Several gentlemen were already enjoying a game, wielding long cues and striking the balls placed on the table.
There was a long sofa placed in front of a deep wine-colored partition adorned with gold embroidery, catching Eve’s attention. Several gentlemen were gathered around the sofa and nearby couch, sitting and engaging in conversations while smoking tobaccos. Alberic, who had been walking slightly ahead, immediately headed towards that area as if he had no business elsewhere.
“Oh. If it isn’t Baron Holland? To see you here too.”
The middle-aged gentleman, who seemed to be the leader of the group, recognized Alberic and greeted him while mentioning his temporary title. In response, the man who was sitting next to him discreetly stood up and vacated his seat. Alberic, with his composed expression, naturally smiled and accepted the greeting.
“It’s been a while, Marquis Piedmont. I haven’t seen you since Lady McMillan’s Floral Show. You’ve become more distinguished in the meantime.”
“Hahaha! You’re exaggerating.”
Alberic, after exchanging greetings with the other gentlemen who were engaged in conversation near the sofa, nodded his head and took a seat to the right of Marquis Piedmont. Eve, who had vaguely heard about Marquis Piedmont being one of the prominent figures in the Crown Prince’s faction, glanced briefly in Alberic’s direction, where he was engaged in ?socializing?.
Eve thought to herself, “He’s working hard,” as she continued to keep an eye on Alberic from behind, like air and guarded his back. When he sat on the sofa, she quietly moved to the back of the sofa and felt a chill.
“By the way, who is this friend…?”
