I Became a Cat That Sleeps with an Obsessive Tyrant Every Night - Chapter 28
It was news that the last descendant of the Nelas family had been found.
That night, the wagon in which Killian and I were riding entered a winding road.
The gray limestone city, covered in drizzling rainwater, seemed to greet us with bated breath.
The ground, which had been paved a long time ago, was pitted or cracked, making it difficult for the carriage to keep upright as it was shaking. I immediately felt sick to my stomach.
“This is bad.”
Killian sat me down on his lap and stroked my back repeatedly to calm my stomach, taking a long look to see if my trembling had subsided.
“You seem to get motion sickness more easily because you’re smaller.”
He said in a condescending tone as he looked at me.
After Irina left the palace, Killian never left me alone.
On days when he had classes, he’d take me beforehand and find me a place to rest and play where I wouldn’t be seen, and whenever possible, he’d take me outside to get some fresh air.
He seemed concerned that I would be lost without him.
“Meow.”
I replied, and he gazed out the window again, still holding me in his lap.
Irina said she was staying at Baron Duchsen’s palace.
Leaving the palace certainly seemed like a good choice for her.
Since she left, Killian’s study has had maids take turns cleaning it.
Of course, in case Lady Gisela had a spy, Killian hadn’t left any clues in the study.
“Your Highness. We have arrived.”
As the coachman stopped the carriage, servants came around the large carriage.
Killian tucked me into his jacket, making sure I was in good shape, then stepped out of the carriage.
“Welcome, Your Highness.”
Baron and Harrid’s voices greeted him.
Ordering the coachmen and servants to wait, Killian stepped out into the street with Baron.
“Here we are.”
Harid’s voice was followed by a squeak of a poorly greased wooden door.
Where is this place?
The smell of constantly smoking cigarettes, alcohol, and sweat mixed together stung my nose, which was bunched up inside Killian’s jacket.
It smelled like a bar.
“Didn’t you say you were sixteen?”
Killian asked Baron.
Sixteen and in a place that smells like alcohol?
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“But in a place like this.”
Killian also told Baron what I wanted to ask.
“The entire Nelas family has died, either by illness or sickness. They say it was mostly due to poverty. The only surviving child is Sanua Nelas. He’s the only one you see there.”
The Nelas family, which was respected by everyone as a family that produced priests with unprecedentedly strong spiritual power, was said to be one of the few historic families that were able to maintain its status even after the founding of the new Huppert Empire.
However, for some reason, the Nelas family, which was so powerful, lost its reputation overnight and was driven into extreme contempt for the past 500 years.
The glory of the Nelas family plummeted to the point where all but one their sixteen children died a miserable death.
As I listened to the explanation of the Nelas family’s demise for a long time, it occurred to me that they lived in the same situation as the cat whose seed withered for some reason.
“Get the hell out of here, you little bugger!”
At that moment, the dull sound of a foot being kicked made my fur stand on end.
“Wahahaha!”
The sound of loud laughter from people suddenly reached my ears.
“Now give me 10 kelings!”
The voice of a young but evil man rang loudly throughout the room.
Could that angry voice belong to Sanua Nelas?
“I told you I’d give you 10 kelings if you bring water here!”
The middle-aged man scowled and shouted, as if he was trying to overcharge.
“I told you I’d pay you ten kelings for fetching water here!”
“No matter how I look at it, this is not the bucket I mentioned earlier!”
“What do you mean, this is the right bucket, do you think I don’t even recognize my own bucket?”
“Who does this little bastard dare to shout in front of?”
There was a loud bang of something being smashed.
“Why did you break it!”
“Yes, I smashed it. So what if I break it, huh!”
As the man picked it up again and threw it down again and again, everyone in the bar cheered and encouraged him.
It was clearly a mean-spirited jeer that made one person a joke.
“Now, get some water in this bucket one more time. Then i’ll give you 10 keling. No, eleven kelings!”
“You broke it, you ruined everything!”
“What? You, you bastard!”
There was a groan from the middle-aged man as he raised his heavy flesh.
“Yeah, hawks are the way to go for cocky assh*les like you. Go ahead and beat the sh*t out of him.”
The sound of the man’s footsteps approaching made my heart tighten with fear.
“Don’t try to run away, stand right there. I’ll have fun if you laugh when you’re beaten to dust, and then I’ll give you the 10 kelings you’ve been wanting!”
The middle-aged man rambled on loudly as if he wanted everyone to hear him.
Soon afterward, I could hear him walking toward the child, breaking one thing after another as he went.
The sound of running footsteps and heavy footsteps rang out ominously.
The moment people’s mocking laughter filled the bar as if they were even crazier people, I felt Killian walking somewhere.
“BANG!”
The next thing I know, I hear a terrifying sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before.
As I tried to comprehend what was happening,
“Ugh.”
A painful groan was heard from the smirking middle-aged man I had heard earlier.
His throat was burning as he struggled to breathe.
“Smile, assh*le.”
Killian’s low, raspy voice whispered to the man.
One hand grasped the man’s throat and lifted his arms up.
“If it makes you feel better.”
His tone was extremely calm as usual, but there was no feeling of mercy in his hands, He pushed the middle-aged man against the wall and lifted him up in the air.
An odd hissing sound, scraping against the humid, dirty air, came from the man.
“I’ll give you a hundred kelings.”
Killian, who elegantly swore at the end, sneered coldly.
“Smile.”
Boom!
Killian’s hand once again slammed the man roughly against the wall.
I heard the sound of objects hanging on the wall falling.
The thunderous laughter of people stopped.
“Huh.”
“Not really.”
In Killian’s calm voice, I heard a middle-aged man urgently hitting his arm.
Clack, clap, clap!
There was a desperate to let go of him.
“You’re not making me feel any better.”
The struggling middle-aged man’s foot slammed into Killian’s leg, but Killian didn’t flinch, just lifted the man higher into the air.
Clack, clap, clap!
The middle-aged man’s struggles to get off of him grew faster and louder.
The more he did so, the stronger the grip strangling the man’s throat became.
“Spit it out!”
An agonized groan pierced my ears, threatening to take my breath away.
“If only I could beat a man for ten kelings.”
“Kkkkkkkkkkkkkk!”
“For a 100 kelings, I could break your neck, I suppose……. What do you think?”
“Kirk!”
“I can’t hear you very well.”
“K……ugh.”
“Speak straight.”
I could feel the fury of madness as Killian responded, spitting out anger through his teeth.
The frightened middle-aged man grabbed Killian’s arm this time and started scratching him recklessly.
As the movements of the man struggling for life became more intense, Killian became more and more calm.
“Heh…… billion.”
“…….”
“Hmm.”
“You want me to let go, huh?”
Killian smirked and pushed the middle-aged man further against the wall.
The man who was struggling in pain and resisting seemed to be losing strength due to Killian’s harsh actions.
The man’s slaps on Killian’s arm slowly began to fade.
“Hmph, Ugh.”
The man’s desperate moans, holding onto Killian’s arm, were now almost crying
“Now that’s a face worth seeing.”
Thud!
As Killian lightly let go of the man’s body, the sound of the heavy body collapsing to the floor rang out.
“Hah!”
But it was quickly followed by a howl from the man as Killian’s shoe crushed him somewhere.
“If you ever hit someone again.”
At that moment, there was the sound of snapping bones.
“Then you’ll find your head on the ground.”
* * *
Killian took Sanua Nelas, the last descendant of Nelas family, to a nearby lodging.
Then, he first ordered food for him who was suffering from hunger.
The smell of delicious food wafted into me as I crouched in Killian’s inner pocket.
“Eat slowly.”
Killian said in a low, sighing voice, but the other man didn’t seem to mind.
The sound of slurping, gulping, shoveling food into his mouth, chewing, and then shoving it back into his hand filled the room.
It seemed like dozens of minutes had passed like that.
“We’re ready.”
Harrid said quietly to Killian, who had been waiting patiently as the sounds of eating subsided.
If things went wrong, Harrid would be in charge of erasing Sanua’s memories of this place.
“Sanua Nelas.”
Baron called Sanua quietly.
“Sanua Nelas…….”
“Who’s Sanua Nelas? Don’t be an assh*le and call me that name. I’m Jack!”
Sanua Nelas, perhaps angry at Baron calling his name again, screamed.
Jack? I’ve heard that name before.
It’s such a common name that it might sound familiar, so I listened to their conversation for a moment.
“Is Jack the name you came up with?”
Harrid asked in a casual tone that gave away his identity.
“Yeah, it is. Whatever.”
At Sanua’s sarcastic response, Harrid whispered to Baron in disbelief, ‘Father, this man is far from educated.’
Though Harrid is a wizard, Harrid had been raised as the son of an Earl, and he was not pleased to be humbled by the younger Sanua.
“Do you know a child whose day and night changed?”
Baron asked again.
“A child who is like night and day? You mean a child who wanders around at night without sleeping? I used to hear about that a lot back in the day…….”
“Who taught you to talk with food in your mouth, can’t you see all the nasty stuff coming out of your mouth right now?”
“Whatever!”
Sanua shouted as Harrid interrupted, his voice rising in anger at the way Sanua was speaking to Baron.
“Harrid, stop it. Sanua Nelas…….”
“It’s Jack!”
“Hmm.”
Baron was about to call out to Sanua, stopping Harrid, when Sanua snapped back, coughing to calm his alarm.
“Yes, Jack, if you have any inherited items or stories from your deceased parents you can tell me.”
“How much will you pay me?”
Sanua’s reaction to his demand for payment left Baron speechless.
“You’re looking for something from me, aren’t you, How much are you going to give me?”
“How dare you treat the person who saved you!”
“A hunter does not trade without a price. It’s an unwritten rule.”
A Hunter? Does this mean that Sanua, who is said to be a descendant of a priest, became a hunter at a young age?
How on earth does this kid, as skinny as a skewer, hunt?
I wondered if he had been attacked while trying to hunt an animal.
But Sanua’s response to Harrid’s words suddenly caught my heart.
The Hunter’s Rules…….
My mind was buzzing as if I was vaguely trying to recall something, but I couldn’t easily match it.
“How much do you want?”
Killian asked, leaning back in his chair.
“I’ll give it to you, just tell me.”
“Really……?”
Unlike before, there was tension in Sanua’s voice as he questioned Killian.
