Hunters Keep Coming To My House - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
“So, Ms. Yeon-oh, catching that guy will solve everything, right?”
“Ugh, uh… yes, maybe…”
“You don’t seem to have the best stamina.”
“…Ugh, Mr. Kang Yoon-soo must have great stamina.”
Kang Yoon-soo laughed heartily, sprinting rapidly with his long legs. And I found myself currently piggybacking on him.
‘…Darn it.’
This all happened about 10 minutes ago.
“…Catch that scammer!”
Startled by my suddenly raised voice, Kang Yoon-soo turned his head toward where I was looking. Then, he grinned upon seeing the real estate agent.
“…Is there someone here?”
“Mr. Kang Yoon-soo, this isn’t the time for that. We need to catch that guy now.”
“Why do I have to?”
“…What?”
Didn’t Kang Yoon-soo just say he wanted to be friends with me? As I looked at him with an incredulous expression, he shrugged, feigning ignorance.
Is he messing with me? The irritation was building up to the point where I wondered if this person was making fun of me.
But what mattered now wasn’t the Kang Yoon-soo in front of me, but the real estate agent who was sneakily trying to escape in the distance.
‘Alright, Kang Yoon-soo… We’ll settle this later.’
First, I’ll catch this guy and then think about it. If I missed this chance, I might never have encountered this person who deleted my phone number and ran away again.
So, I had to catch him quickly. I gritted my teeth and started sprinting at full speed.
Back in elementary school, I was a relay race runner! I even got first place! Like a cheetah targeting its prey, I ran at top speed towards the escaping real estate agent. Amidst my sprint, there was someone leisurely walking beside me.
It was Kang Yoon-soo.
“Um, who’s that person?”
“…Hmph, when do you pretend not to know?!”
“That was when I didn’t think Ms. Yeon-oh would run so seriously.”
“Argh, you’re a jerk!”
“Ahaha, you’re the third person to say that in front of me, Ms. Yeon-oh. The first was Tae-il, and the second was Seung-hoo.”
Kang Yoon-soo laughed, finding something amusing, and accelerated, leaving me behind.
“Ms. Yeon-oh seems to lack the speed to catch that guy. Hmm, probably due to the difference in physical levels…”
“Ugh, don’t make me talk! It’s hard!”
“If you need help, just let me know. As I mentioned earlier, I want to be friends with you.”
Then just help me!
I had no idea how that real estate agent was running so well or how he was so good at what he did.
‘Oh, wait… According to Kang Yoon-soo, that real estate agent is also a Hunter…. ‘
Even if I’m a lower-level hunter, I should have been able to catch a normal person. But looking at the widening gap between me and the real estate agent, it was clear he was undoubtedly a hunter.
And not just any hunter, but one with a higher level than mine.
‘Considering my current level is almost C-level, he must be at least B-level.’
Or maybe he has passive skills related to running.
Nevertheless, running so well wasn’t in my plans. Moreover, I was getting more irritated by Kang Yoon-soo, who was walking quickly beside me and constantly laughing.
My thighs felt like they were about to explode, and I could feel my breath reaching the tip of my chin. If I kept running, the breakfast I had this morning might come up.
So, I eventually had to call out to Kang Yoon-soo for help.
“Ugh! Help! Please, help!”
“Alright. Get on my back, Ms. Yeon-oh.”
As if waiting for me, he stopped at a distance and crouched down, making it easy for me to hop on. Though I considered it a pointless consideration, my body settled comfortably on his broad back.
It was annoyingly cozy and comfortable. Despite thinking it was a useless concern, I was irritated. Once I was on his back, Kang Yoon-soo securely held me and spoke in a calm voice.
“Don’t be surprised, even if I’m a bit fast.”
With that, Kang Yoon-soo practically soared. Yes, that expression would be accurate. He soared like a rocket.
Thanks to that, I needed some time to adapt to his back with my eyes half-closed. Could a person be this fast? Was he even a person to begin with?
This was how I ended up being carried on Kang Yoon-soo’s back. And for the last 10 minutes, Kang Yoon-soo had been chasing the real estate agent.
He maintained an incredible speed that didn’t slow down compared to when he first started running. However, the real estate agent, who matched Kang Yoon-soo’s incredible speed, made the situation absurd.
So, let’s say this real estate guy had an innate talent for running, matching Kang Yoon-soo, an S-level. Then how fast would someone faster and more agile than Kang Yoon-soo, like the top-ranked Jung Tae-il, need to run to catch him?
It was truly ridiculous.
However fast Kang Yoon-soo was, how fast could Jung Tae-il possibly be? I remember having a casual conversation with Kang Yoon-soo at home, where he praised Jung Tae-il’s agile speed repeatedly… I brushed it off at the time, but now I realize it wasn’t just talk.
There was probably no chance of it happening, but I vowed never to get on Jung Tae-il’s back. Even now, it felt like I was riding on a cheetah sprinting at full speed without any equipment.
As my useless thoughts came to an end:
“Nowhere to run now, suspicious guy.”
Kang Yoon-soo stood still in a dead-end alley. In front of him was the real estate agent I had been eager to see and catch.
Though he had his back turned, I could recognize him at a glance. Tall, perfectly dressed in a suit, and maintaining an upright posture—the kind of person who exudes a vague presence.
Yes, now that I look at him again, he seems incredibly suspicious.
I descended from Kang Yoon-soo’s back and nonchalantly turned my neck a couple of times. Then I slowly approached the real estate agent.
“Excuse me, do you remember me? You sold me the house with the orange roof.”
“…”
“Hey, over here. Can’t you see me? Do you have any idea what I’ve been through because of you?”
“…”
The real estate agent continued to ignore me, showing no intention of turning around.
“Hey!”
Only I was getting angrier at his silent back. Even though I should have reacted more calmly to such a situation, the injustices I had faced were flashing before my eyes like a panorama, making me increasingly upset.
When I was about to grab the real estate agent’s shoulder to make him face me and see his face properly, pa-aat!
A bright light erupted from where the real estate agent was standing. It was a dazzling and beautiful golden light.
I instinctively closed my eyes due to the blinding light, and when I opened them again…
“…He’s gone.”
The real estate agent disappeared without a trace.
If only I had seen his face… or pulled out a strand of hair… I could have somehow interrogated and found him!
I bit my lip and kicked the ground in frustration. It felt like missing a caught fish. How much regret would follow?
“…Well, there’s still plenty of time. I’ll catch him again.”
At that time, whether it’s death or a meal, let’s see who wins.
As I stared in disbelief at where the real estate agent had disappeared, Kang Yoon-soo slowly opened his mouth.
“Um, Ms. Yeon-oh.”
“…Why?”
“I feel like I can help you. Would you like some assistance?”
“…Help with what?”
Is there something left for him to help me with now? No matter how confident Kang Yoon-soo is, finding someone who has disappeared like this would be difficult. If he finds it, it’s either divine intervention or someone from the intelligence agency.
I turned around to look at Kang Yoon-soo. As I did, he confidently extended one of his hands. On that hand, a golden aura was gathered like a circle.
“I can help you find that person.”
“…How can you, Mr. Kang Yoon-soo?”
“Usually, when someone disappears like that, it’s natural not to find any traces, but I can find it. Because…”
Because there’s leftover mana.
When someone disappears like that, it’s all done using skills, and skills require the use of mana, right?
Kang Yoon-soo, who was slowly explaining to me, began to lift the corners of his mouth.
“I’ll find that person for you.”
“…Mr. Kang Yoon-soo, you don’t seem like someone who would just help out of goodwill.”
“If earlier I wanted to become friends and help, this time it’s more appropriate to play a little trick.”
Kang Yoon-soo tightly grasped the golden mana in his hand and made it disappear. Then, he took a step closer to me.
“Next time, have a meal with me.”
“…A meal?”
“Yes, a meal. That’s my little trick.”
As if saying that helping me with one meal is nothing, he answered with a confident smile.
“So, this time, don’t be as wary as before. Please accept it, Ms. Yeon-oh.”
