Hunter: I'm Really Not a Nen Exorcist - Chapter 6
The night was as dark as ink, with the storm clouds hinting at a coming rain.
A staggering figure navigated through the oppressive forest.
It was a woman with beautiful features and a graceful figure.
Her face adorned with makeup and clad in fashionable attire, she was clearly not from the nearby villages, likely a tourist from a large city.
Racing through the forest, the bushes and tree branches left scratches all over her.
Yet, she did not slow down. It was as if something terrifying was chasing her from the shadows.
And the light up ahead, growing closer, was like the dawn piercing through her dark night.
“I’m almost there… almost…”
“I don’t want to die! I don’t!”
As she ran, her hope intensified with every step closer to the light.
Finally, after a combination of rolling and crawling, she reached the vast ground in front of the temple’s grand entrance, built with a mix of cobblestones and cement.
“Is anyone there? Help! HELP!”
The woman cried out with what little strength she had left, collapsing in front of the temple’s grand doors. She tried to push them open with her right hand, but they seemed locked.
“Open… open the door, please…”
Her hoarse voice was laden with despair.
The dwindling strength left her knocking weakly, producing a sound barely louder than a mosquito’s buzz.
Eventually, she lacked even the strength to call out.
The woman lay exhausted in front of the entrance, her chest heaving like a bellows.
“Please… please…”
A low whimper escaped her lips as she glanced back at the darkness, biting her lip.
Perhaps any second now, that monster would emerge from the shadows, dragging her into an abyss of despair.
“Open the door…”
The woman whimpered.
Creak—
At her most desperate moment, a divine sound resonated behind her.
The aged, weathered doors, which looked as if they’d fall with a gust of wind, miraculously opened.
The woman quickly turned her head. A gentle and straight beam of light emerged from the temple, casting a shadow on her nose.
As the wooden doors widened, the light, initially hitting her nose, spread, illuminating her eyes and eventually enveloping her entire body.
Her trembling body froze in that instant.
Then—
The woman saw a boy with a clear face, his mist-filled eyes slowly widening, as if a drowning person finally touched something that brought a sense of security. There was a moment of blankness in her mind.
The one who opened the temple doors for the woman was Moyu, who had just had a satisfying meal. At this moment, what lay before him was a darkness so dense that he couldn’t see his hand in front of his face.
Moyu cast a quick glance at the flustered woman before turning his gaze back to the oppressive darkness ahead. In the distance, a nebulous glow of Nen fluctuated, its exact distance uncertain in the pitch black.
“A person? Or something else?”
Moyu stared at the aura “burning” in the darkness, saying nothing.
Whatever it was…
If it could make this woman this desperate, it couldn’t be anything good.
The woman finally came to her senses and fell to the ground, clutching Moyu’s calves, her voice hoarse and broken, “Help, please help me… something is chasing me… my friends… they’ve all been killed…”
“Be clear. Is it a human or an animal?”
Moyu didn’t look at her but kept his focus on the aura ahead. If it stayed still, so would he.
Hearing Moyu’s question, the woman hesitated, whispering, “I… I was only thinking of escaping… I didn’t see clearly, but I heard my friends screaming. They… they…”
She paused, glancing at the somewhat reassuring light inside the temple, pleading softly, “Can… can I come in?”
Moyu didn’t answer, just sidestepped to allow her room.
Seeing his gesture, the woman immediately understood. Though she was drained of energy, her will to live pushed her to crawl inside like a worm.
She then struggled to look up at Moyu, urging him to close the door. It was then that she realized that ever since he had opened the door, the boy had been staring in the direction she came from.
Could he… see it?
The woman’s gaze turned vacant, that being the only possibility she could think of. But in her desperation for safety, she didn’t have the time to ponder it further. All she wanted was for Moyu to shut the door quickly and alert everyone inside the temple.
“Lock… lock the door. That monster is catching up…”
She implored weakly.
At the same time, she noticed that Moyu’s composure was unnaturally calm, almost uncharacteristic for a boy his age.
“Then… call everyone from the temple…”
“I’m the only one here.”
Moyu responded nonchalantly. His gaze shifted as the aura in the darkness began to move, slowly advancing towards them.
“Why… why are you the only one…”
Upon hearing that in such a vast temple there was only Moyu, the woman was dumbstruck.
A flimsy door and a boy, not older than sixteen… How could they possibly fend off the monster that had annihilated her companions in the woods?
The woman sank into deep despair.
But Moyu wasn’t in the mood to console her.
Even though he wasn’t sure what this so-called “monster” was that the woman mentioned, what was clear was that this monster could wield Nen. That meant it was a threat to him.
If this woman hadn’t sought refuge here and had died in the forest, she wouldn’t have brought trouble with her.
But then, he wouldn’t have been aware of such a dangerous entity lurking in the woods either.
In short—
From the moment this woman collapsed at the temple gate, Moyu knew he couldn’t remain indifferent.
Fortunately, he had the means to counteract Nen.
“Come in.”
While keeping an eye on the movement of the aura, Moyu slowly stepped backward.
“Can you… help me up?”
The woman pleaded, looking at the retreating Moyu.
Moyu remained silent, only shaking his head in response.
Given the current situation, this seemingly harmless “pleader” was still within his range of caution.
Seeing Moyu’s indifferent reaction, the woman had no choice but to crawl into the temple.
However, she failed to notice—
Under the light, the young boy in front of her cast no shadow.
