Hunter: I'm Really Not a Nen Exorcist - Chapter 24
The knock on the door persisted for a while.
Busy with washing dishes, Moyu chose to ignore it.
Naturally, Cheadle didn’t take the initiative to answer either. She just sat on the stone chair, silently watching the door that slightly quivered with each knock.
The knocking lasted for about ten seconds, then silence. The visitor probably gave up.
Cheadle tilted her head, listening to the fading footsteps, then turned her attention elsewhere.
Minutes later, Moyu came out of the kitchen after finishing his chores.
Cheadle glanced at him, “Someone knocked earlier and left something at the door.”
“Hmm.”
Upon Cheadle’s mention, Moyu wasn’t surprised. He just nodded and headed straight to the door. Unlatching it, he found bags filled with daily necessities and food.
Given the time of day and the items left behind, the only person Moyu could think of was Monica.
“It wasn’t necessary,” he muttered, picking up the bags and bringing them inside.
Cheadle watched with amusement as Moyu entered the courtyard, carrying various bags.
Although she had not stepped out when the knocking occurred, she had a general idea of what happened outside.
Feigning ignorance to Cheadle’s gaze, Moyu walked into the kitchen.
After this minor incident, Moyu quickly found an excuse to return to his room for practice.
Cheadle was a bit disappointed. She wished to continue their conversation, but she didn’t push him.
For the next two days, aside from preparing meals for Cheadle, Moyu spent most of his free time practicing.
On the fourth day of Cheadle’s visit, Hawk, who had been away for nearly half a month, finally returned.
To Moyu’s surprise, Hawk wasn’t alone. He was accompanied by a man as skinny as a bamboo pole.
But what surprised Moyu even more than Hawk’s companion was his father’s presence.
“Hawk? What…”
Moyu stared, astonished at the stable flow of Nen around Hawk. It wasn’t the free-flowing aura from half a month ago but a mature, controlled ‘Ten.’
Pretense…
Moyu quickly came to this conclusion and stared silently at Hawk.
Facing the scrutinizing gaze of his son, Hawk felt uneasy, scratching his bald head and shoulders.
Moyu remained silent, just staring at Hawk.
Cheadle and the bamboo-like man stood by, watching quietly.
“Moyu,” Hawk began, rubbing his head, “This… it’s complicated. Let me explain, but brace yourself.”
“Alright, take your time,” Moyu said, glancing at Cheadle from the corner of his eye.
Considering the revelations about Hawk being a Nen user and the cryptic words he had used, Moyu began to suspect the reason behind Cheadle’s unexpected visit. Memories of the day he awakened his Nen and the malicious aura he felt returned.
That night, despite being overwhelmed by the malicious aura, he woke up the next day perfectly fine. Since Hawk appeared to be a normal person, Moyu dismissed the possibility that his body was healed by Nen.
And now, the truth about Hawk being a Nen user…
Moyu ceased his assumptions, waiting for Hawk’s explanation.
Hawk glanced at Cheadle, who gave a slight nod.
If Moyu had remained a normal person under the seal of Divine Script, he would’ve lived an ordinary life. This would also mean he wouldn’t bear the burden of a particular Relic of the Dead.
From Hawk’s perspective, it was imperative that Moyu never came in contact with anything related to Nen.
However, things have changed. Moyu awakened his Nen despite the seal of Divine Script — an unexpected development. Considering Moyu’s lack of knowledge about Nen, Hawk was anxious but remained composed.
The crux of the matter is that without a solid foundation in Nen knowledge, the growth rate of a Nen user who awakened their abilities autonomously is significantly limited in a short time.
Such a judgment isn’t wrong.
However, the problem lies in how Moyu’s growth speed has defied these norms.
In conclusion—
When continuous suppression didn’t yield desired results, Hawk had to agree with Cheadle’s perspective that it’s easier to let go than to keep holding back.
Hawk looked at Moyu earnestly, “Moyu, first of all, don’t be afraid.”
“Hmm?”
Moyu, sensing the gravity in Hawk’s voice, immediately became serious.
Taking a deep breath, Hawk said, “You might be nearing death, but…”
“Enough, Hawk,” Cheadle interrupted, her expression darkening. She quickly approached, shooing Hawk away with a dismissive gesture, “Get lost.”
Though Hawk wanted to maintain a fatherly dignity in front of Moyu, he could only obediently retreat, overshadowed by Cheadle’s dominant aura.
Moyu frowned slightly but said nothing.
After sending Hawk away, Cheadle turned to Moyu, speaking gravely, “I might not understand this matter as deeply as Hawk does, but I can explain the basics to you.”
“Go on,” Moyu urged, waiting for her to continue.
He could sense the trepidation both Hawk and Cheadle felt about the upcoming revelation, but having some inklings of what it might be, Moyu wasn’t particularly alarmed.
“The root of this issue began when Elena became pregnant with you…”
Cheadle began her account, and Moyu listened attentively.
By the end of her narrative, he understood the gravity of the situation, especially the threat of the Relic of the Dead, which made him even more composed.
“So, you’re saying the solution lies with this gentleman?” After Cheadle finished, Moyu turned his attention to the bamboo-like man standing nearby.
He was a rare Exorcist, one capable of potentially removing post-mortem Nen, and was brought by Cheadle for this very reason.
Meeting Moyu’s gaze, the Exorcist remained impassive, his face as emotionless as a corpse’s.
“Yes,” Cheadle confirmed, nodding heavily. Then, suddenly, she frowned, “Hawk? What are you doing?”
Her eyes darted to the pool, where Hawk was fervently collecting coins.
“Don’t we have to address the payment issue?” Hawk responded, holding up a handful of coins.
Cheadle massaged her temples, looking exasperated.
The Exorcist’s mouth twitched subtly.
Moyu maintained a neutral expression.
He was supposed to be an elite tomb robber, wasn’t he?
How did it come to this?!
