Hunter: I'm Really Not a Nen Exorcist - Chapter 15
Holding it in, holding it tight –
Until reaching the limit, then releasing it all at once.
That’s what Moyu could barely extract from Light’s awful analogy.
However…
He was quite curious to know who first introduced Light to this art.
Suppressing the urge to ask, Moyu averted his gaze, no longer looking at Light. Wishing to avoid another of Light’s experiences, he immediately closed his eyes to start practicing.
Light had intended to offer more guidance, but seeing Moyu already engrossed in his training, he refrained.
“I really am suited for mentoring,” Light thought, a smug expression on his face as he observed Moyu.
Good guidance means explaining principles in the simplest terms.
Just like he had just done –
With just one analogy, Moyu understood instantly.
“If it wasn’t for my ultimate dream of capturing the ‘Phantom Troupe,’ becoming a Nen instructor and guiding newcomers seems like a good option,” Light mused, his arms crossed, the pride evident in his demeanor.
Unaware of Light’s thoughts, Moyu focused intently, trying his best to mobilize the aura within him.
“First, gather the aura, then suddenly open the pores…”
“There’s no need to rush; if it fails once, try again.”
“But before that, by closing the pores, more power should be accumulated.”
Moyu concentrated, organizing his thoughts.
Although Light’s “wisdom” felt somewhat crass, one couldn’t deny –
The rough words contained solid logic.
At the very least, they provided Moyu with some insight.
Within the courtyard of the temple.
Mist floated in the air, and the dim morning light shone upon Moyu.
The hazy glow and the aura’s radiance complemented each other.
After about ten seconds –
The aura that floated around Moyu receded at a pace visible to the naked eye.
Moyu had closed his pores, entering the state of ‘Zetsu’.
This way, he could accumulate even more power internally.
Seeing this, a trace of surprise flashed across Light’s stoic face.
“Holding back such power, but overstepping might not be wise. Nen training is all about progress step by step, steadily,” Light remarked.
It seemed he had guessed Moyu’s intentions. He neither approved nor disapproved.
Admittedly, his mentoring was excellent, but he couldn’t dictate the pace of one’s progress.
Ideally, Moyu would be able to expand his pores by noon, allowing the “aura output” to reach a level where sparring would be productive.
If he couldn’t manage by noon, Light could assist Moyu in opening his pores using his own aura. However, succeeding on one’s own and succeeding with help have different rewards.
If circumstances permitted, Light would prefer Moyu to meet the criteria through his own capabilities.
“Moyu, I believe in you, you, you…?”
Suddenly, Light’s eyes widened.
Reflected in them was an ever-brightening aura.
Moyu was emitting a massive amount of energy, a torrent flowing around him, evidently having opened his pores to an unprecedented level.
How long had it been?
Ten seconds?
My God! What a genius!!!
Light was utterly taken aback.
He’d thought Moyu would need many attempts to adequately expand his pores. But the boy had met – no, exceeded – expectations with a single attempt.
“A genius, an absolute prodigy…!!!”
“I must find a way to recruit Moyu!!!”
Excitement surged within Light.
This wasn’t just ensuring a path…
This was potentially a ticket to a two-star ranking.
Unaware of Light’s reaction, Moyu was enraptured by the sensation of the surging aura, a marvelous feeling filling him.
It wasn’t omnipotence he felt but rather… an intensified potential.
“Is this enough?” Moyu asked, slowly opening his eyes to look at a flabbergasted Light.
Catching Moyu’s gaze, Light quickly composed himself, feigned a cough and solemnly stated, “Impressive. It seems my guidance played a crucial role.”
“…”
Moyu paused, wisely choosing not to correct Light’s impression.
“Let’s start then. I can’t maintain this for too long.”
Without retracting his Nen, Moyu stepped back, locking eyes with Light, urging him to start their sparring session.
Using ‘Ren’ to open the pores amplifies one’s aura output, but the inner “potential aura” is limited and cannot be sustained indefinitely.
“Don’t be impatient; we have plenty of time.”
Light’s eyes sparkled as he also released his aura, preparing for their practice session.
However, the aura output Light released was roughly equivalent to Moyu’s in terms of magnitude.
It was evident that he had intentionally controlled his power.
“During our sparring session, I’ll restrain my ‘Ren’ to a level comparable to yours, so you don’t need to feel constrained by thoughts like ‘his Ren is stronger.’ Feel free to unleash your full offensive and defensive capabilities,” Light said, taking up a defensive stance with his left fist down and right fist guarding.
“Then, I won’t hold back.”
Moyu’s eyes sharpened as he took a bold step forward, stamping his foot on the ground.
Thud!
The ancient stone tiles, worn over the years, shattered under Moyu’s force.
Like an arrow released from its bow, Moyu’s body shot towards Light.
“Choosing a direct, aggressive approach after confirming both parties have comparable ‘Ren’ is indeed the fastest way to extract the value from a sparring session. But… You’re so young, where does this pressing desire to become stronger so quickly come from?”
Seeing Moyu’s aggressive approach, Light stood his ground, ready to counter.
However,
In the next instant, Moyu suddenly halted.
“Hm?”
Light looked puzzled at Moyu, who had abruptly stopped his attack.
Moyu turned his attention to the shattered stone tiles beneath his feet. He hadn’t considered the environmental factor before initiating the battle.
With the power of ‘Ren’, he hadn’t anticipated that a simple charge would effortlessly destroy the tiles.
Would a ten-day sparring session wreck the entire courtyard?
What would Hawk say when he returned?
Moyu could almost visualize Hawk’s constant complaints.
“Should we… move somewhere else?”
Looking up from the broken stones, Moyu turned to Light, making a suggestion.
“…”
Light seemed slightly exasperated.
He had thought Moyu had stopped due to some other reason, but it turned out Moyu was worried about damaging the temple’s courtyard.
“Let’s stay here. There’s no other suitable location outside,” Light refuted Moyu’s suggestion. To alleviate Moyu’s concerns, he added, “Don’t worry about it. After our session, I’ll hire professionals to restore this place.”
“Then, I’m relieved.”
A glint appeared in Moyu’s eyes, thinking about the extensive connections of a professional Hunter.
With no more reservations, Moyu took another step forward.
Thud!
Another tile cracked.
Moyu sprinted right in front of Light, crouching slightly to minimize his target area, and aimed a probing punch at Light’s abdomen.
Enhanced by aura, this punch was quite forceful.
However, to Light, Moyu’s offense appeared amateurish, filled with glaring openings.
“His combat experience is virtually nonexistent…”
Surprise flickered deep within Light’s eyes. Just as Moyu’s punch was about to connect, Light quickly drove his knee towards Moyu’s chest.
With a muffled thud, Moyu was struck squarely in the chest, sending him flying backwards. He crashed to the ground, rolling several meters before coming to a halt.
However, since both their aura output were at similar levels, and Light had purposefully pulled his punches, Moyu wasn’t injured.
This was one of the unique advantages Nen users possessed. They could engage in all-out battles during training without fearing injury, allowing for rapid experience gain.
In a real combat scenario, however…
Just now, all Light needed to do was transfer over 50% of his aura output to his knee, and a single strike could have ended Moyu’s life.
“His direct combat skills are indeed lacking…”
Moyu got up from the ground, not surprised by the outcome.
Although he had extensive knowledge of Nen, his physical combat experience was almost non-existent.
This was Moyu’s current strength level.
Thus, excluding the Nen ability factor, any Hunter who has just learned Nen after passing the Hunter Exam could easily defeat Moyu.
After all, combat experience and physical aptitude are crucial components of one’s strength.
The reason he could ‘one-shot’ Ian last night was entirely due to strategy and the difference in their knowledge of Nen abilities.
Simply put –
Physical combat and aptitude set the minimum, while Nen ability and technique determine the potential maximum.
“I still have a long way to go.”
Moyu whispered to himself before raising his eyes to face Light, with a renewed determination evident on his face.
Weakness was no issue.
Because after countless challenges, one inevitably becomes stronger.
All that was needed was to move forward, taking each step with resolve.
“How… did he defeat Ian?”
Masking his astonishment, Light observed Moyu as he rose.
Knowing that Moyu had almost zero combat experience, the doubts Light had from the previous night resurfaced, even stronger.
Comparing Moyu’s current strength to what he knew of Ian’s capabilities, Light couldn’t fathom how Moyu had emerged victorious.
In terms of Nen techniques, combat experience, and even physical fitness, Ian was clearly superior to Moyu.
As Light pondered this, Moyu launched another attack, once again opting for a straightforward charge.
However,
This time, Moyu shifted his stance slightly before striking, hoping to increase his hit rate through feints.
But it was still too naive.
Light effortlessly deflected him.
Crashing onto the ground—
Moyu didn’t get up. Having exhausted almost 90% of his potential aura, he was evidently drained.
After all, it had only been two days since he awakened his Nen.
The total of his potential aura was not something he could raise in such a short time.
Lying flat on the ground, Moyu started to replay the recent exchanges in his mind, hoping to extract lessons from them.
Just ten days…
He had to cherish every single moment, striving to grow as much as possible!
