- Vol. 1 Chapter 19 - Astonishing Demonstration
Lian Youyou stood on the offering table, grinned, and said, “Everyone can listen before resorting to violence.”
The crowd calmed down, realizing that gossip was more important.
“Master! Make way! Make way!” When He Shiqi saw Lian Youyou, he immediately rushed to the table as if a loyal dog had found its owner. He pushed people away and stood guard, hands on his hips, and not allowing anyone to approach.
Lin Tingjun’s cold gaze shifted between Lian Youyou and He Shiqi. A madwoman? A fool? What kind of drama was this? There were no monsters causing trouble, so he could have left to get some sleep. But this unfolding spectacle piqued his interest, especially this village girl who despite her rustic appearance, and seemed to know his identity and moved faster than him.
Lian Youyou waved at Wei Chi Feng and said, “Sir, I believe you’re here officially to dispel rumors. Let’s clarify things and then let everyone go back to cooking, nursing babies, and reporting without letting a swindler like this cause chaos, shall we?”
Wei Chi Feng glanced at the village girl and nodded, raising his hand authoritatively. “Everyone calm down! Otherwise, I’ll take you all to the prison for a cool stay!”
His threat had an impact. The villagers became more obedient and focused on Lian Youyou.
Wei Chi Feng grasped his big sword at his waist and asked, “So, what’s the story then?”
“Yes, what’s the story?” Villagers held tools like hoes and planks, eyeing Lian Youyou as if they would throw those objects at her if she couldn’t explain things clearly.
Lin Yuniang was about to speak but was restrained by Old He Xiucai who shook his head, glancing at Lian Youyou, and implying that she shouldn’t act as a troublemaker; considering their frail build.
Lin Yuniang pursed her lips and stayed close to the old man.
Lian Youyou cleared her throat and began, “So, yesterday, Liu Qiang went up the mountain. Why do you think he did that?”
“Hunting!” shouted one of the villagers.
“Ah Qiang said he found a wolf on the mountain, so he set a trap the day before. And yesterday, he went up to check if the trap caught the wolf,” another villager provided new information.
“Snap!” Lian Youyou snapped her fingers and pointed at the villager who had just spoken.
“Finally, someone who understands.” This time, the bite mark on Liu Qiang’s leg made sense.
The knowledgeable villager felt proud. He tilted his head up at a 45-degree angle, thinking he looked quite handsome now.
Lian Youyou continued, “So, Liu Qiang went to check the trap, and he probably had caught the wolf. But then, out of nowhere, a meteor fell!” Lian Youyou acted out the scene dramatically, “Whoosh—boom! In an instant, Liu Qiang and the wolf were sent flying. I get it now. While being thrown, the wolf bit Liu Qiang’s leg in retaliation. Then, Liu Qiang fell onto a broken tree branch which pierced through him that causing his death!”
“How is that possible?” A villager immediately raised an objection. “When we went to find Liu Qiang on the mountain, that tree was so tall. How could Liu Qiang have reached it?”
Several young men who had gone up the mountain together nodded in agreement.
“Moreover,” another villager added, “Look at Liu Dong; he still looks like he’s lost his soul. That’s clearly the work of a monster!” The men pointed at Liu Dong, who had been huddled in the corner and almost forgotten by everyone.
“Liu Dong? Who’s Liu Dong?”
Lian Youyou looked over and noticed that Liu Dong resembled the deceased Liu Qiang. Same last name, huh… my mistake.
“Ah Qiang—my poor Ah Qiang—” Liu Qiang’s mother cried as she hugged the trembling Liu Dong.
Meanwhile, Liu Qiang’s father glared at Lian Youyou with a hoe in his hand. “I knew it! Ever since you came, everything’s gone haywire! Black dog disappeared, the rooster ran off, and Li Xiangu turned into a swindler! And you even touched my son’s body!” He pointed at Liu Qiang’s corpse in the yard.
Guo De and Guo Gang wrinkled their brows in disgust.
Lian Youyou smiled awkwardly and politely, “I was examining the body, examining it…” She looked at Wei Chi Feng, “Sir, you should know about examining a body. Without looking or touching, how can we know how someone died?”
Wei Chi Feng listened to Lian Youyou’s words and found her reasoning sound. However, he was still suspicious about how Liu Qiang had climbed the tree. “So, how did Liu Qiang get up the tree?”
Lian Youyou pointed at the muddy ground beneath her, “Let’s consider this as the Pingshan mountain. Alright, this represents Liu Qiang…” Lian Youyou jumped down from the table, picked up a piece of steamed bun, placed it on the ground, then looked around, picked up a chopstick, broke it to make a sharp point, and stabbed it into the ground. “This is the tree, roughly the same height, right?” Lian Youyou gestured toward the men who had carried Liu Qiang’s body down the mountain.
They estimated the proportion between the steamed bun and the chopstick and nodded, saying, “Roughly the same.”
“Good.” Lian Youyou picked up a bronze incense burner, stood up, and surveyed the curious yet skeptical villagers.
“If a person is on the ground, they can’t get onto a tree. Usually, an impact can’t send a person flying either…” Lian Youyou said while throwing the incense burner.
“Boom!” The incense burner smashed into the ground, only creating a few small stones that jumped up. The piece of steamed bun on the ground barely moved.
The crowd was astonished.
“But the falling meteor is different,” Lian Youyou explained. She picked up the heavy copper incense burner again and tossed it in her hand. “It adds the force of Earth’s gravity and acceleration… um… you probably don’t understand all this, but in short, the higher the height, the heavier the object when it falls. This can send someone flying. Ah Qiu, hold onto that chopstick. I’m worried that the force might make it fly too.”
“Okay!” He Shiqi immediately crouched down and held onto the chopstick.
Then, Lian Youyou jumped up, surprising the crowd with hushed gasps. “Oh—”
Even Wei Chi Feng watched with some amazement, not expecting this village girl to have such skills.
With a graceful leap, Lian Youyou reached the top of a tall poplar tree in the courtyard, which was about as high as a four-story building. She stood high in the treetop, calling out, “Everyone, watch closely! I’m about to throw up!”
All eyes were fixated on the piece of steamed bun on the ground, like gamblers staring at dice.
Lian Youyou, high in the air, flashed a sly smile, and then she tossed the copper incense burner. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and a faint golden divine power emanated from her palm.
Without this added power, the copper incense burner couldn’t achieve the speed and impact of a falling meteor.
However, she couldn’t actually fly too high, or it would truly terrify the people. So, she had to rely on the remaining trace of her divine power.
With a graceful turn on the treetop, she swiftly threw the copper incense burner. Boosted by the divine power, it accelerated to an incredible speed, even turning red as it sliced through the air. Its velocity was so fast that ordinary eyes couldn’t track its trajectory!
