- Vol. 1 Chapter 16 - Divine Revelations and Tremors
Immediately, Liu Qiang’s mother screamed again, “Crazy, don’t touch my Ah Qiang!”
He Shiqi stepped in as Liu Qiang’s mother was about to rush over, saying, “Stay away!”
“Ah Qi, don’t cause trouble!”
“You idiots, watch your crazy son! Why release him and cause chaos!”
“Hit that fool!”
“Who dares to hit our village’s Ah Qi?!”
“What’s the commotion about, people from South Village coming to North Village!”
The scene completely spiraled out of control, turning into chaos. Fists were swinging here, shoes were thrown there, rakes were wielded here, and bricks were being picked up over there. It seemed like it was about to escalate into a brawl between the two villages.
Amidst the turmoil, only Lian Youyou stood quietly, placing her hand above Ah Qiang’s forehead. The faint aura of death told her that Ah Qiang was truly dead. The soul had already been taken away by diligent underworld emissaries, leaving only the decaying and foul-smelling flesh in the approaching summer heat.
Lian Youyou withdrew her hand and sniffed the air, thinking to herself, “Hmm… it’s still so smelly even from a distance.” She rolled her eyes and casually wiped her hand on the back of He Shiqi, who stood beside her.
While wiping her hand, she continued to examine Liu Qiang’s corpse. In the scorching heat, the intestines were exposed, rotting rapidly. Even if she had enough magical power to use retrospection to see Liu Qiang’s past, it wouldn’t be necessary. The wounds on the body already told her everything that happened.
There were evident marks of tree branches on Liu Qiang’s hair, face, neck, body, and clothes. Examining closely, there were even wood splinters in his face and arms, culminating in the large hole in his belly.
These clues connected and intertwined in Lian Youyou’s mind, forming a series of images replaying the sequence of events: Liu Qiang went up the mountain, was thrown by a shockwave, his body sliced by flying broken branches in midair, and finally impaled on a sharp broken tree, dying a gruesome death.
Oh dear, Lian Youyou had indeed caused trouble. Just as she descended to the mortal realm, she accidentally killed a commoner. Well, this was quite embarrassing.
But wait, what about the wound on his leg? Lian Youyou’s sharp gaze focused on the wound on Liu Qiang’s calf. That wound seemed to be from a wolf demon, and…
She squinted her eyes, and suddenly, the fabric of time and space around her seemed to freeze in an instant. The world turned gray, quiet and still. Threads of black energy emerged from the wound, resembling elongated black worms wriggling through the air, sending shivers down the spine.
“She’s a monster!”
Suddenly, a sharp shout pierced through Lian Youyou’s eerie gray world, injecting colors back in. The black energy dissipated under the scorching sunlight, burned away by its intensity.
The shout halted everyone who was about to fight. They all turned to the direction of the shout, which came from He Shiqi’s mother, Lin Yuniang. She had somehow climbed onto a well cover, her face pale, sweat dripping down her forehead.
All eyes were on her, but she was trembling all over. She got off the well cover, knelt in front of Li Xiangu, and cried, “Immortal Xiangu, this crazy girl was brought down from the mountain by our Ah Qi yesterday. But after bringing her back, she kept claiming to be a goddess. My Ah Qi got influenced by her, treating her as a master… sob… sob…”
Lin Yuniang started sobbing, deeply regretting her malicious thoughts of tarnishing the purity of this girl of unknown origins. She hoped to keep her for her mentally challenged son as a wife.
Little did she know, her plan had backfired terribly. Now they had invited a disaster into their home. With no way out, they could only implore Li Xiangu to help them get rid of this disaster, Lian Youyou.
Lin Yuniang cried uncontrollably, while Mr. He Xiucai, who saw the scene from the doorway, squatted down in place with his pipe in hand, and wore a distressed expression. They had brought this upon themselves, this was their retribution, a retribution indeed.
“Immortal Xiangu, please save Ah Qi, please banish the monster.” Lin Yuniang bowed to Li Xiangu.
From the moment Li Xianhu locked eyes with Lian Youyou, a sense of inexplicable fear had grown in her heart. She couldn’t even look Lian Youyou in the eye, feeling utterly terrified.
And now, when Lin Yuniang suddenly labeled Lian Youyou as a monster, Li Xiangu felt even more panicky. If Lian Youyou was just a simpleton, she could have dealt with her easily.
But if she truly was a monster, a monster taking human form at that. How could she possibly confront her? She wasn’t a real immortal; she couldn’t perform any true magic. She knew deep down that she was just a charlatan, no different from the people around here, a mere mortal!
Li Xiangu was somewhat flustered, but of course, she couldn’t show it. She had to maintain her facade.
Upon hearing Lin Yuniang say that Lian Youyou was a monster, everyone around retreated with a collective “whoosh,” creating a larger empty space around Lian Youyou than before.
Li Xiangu quickly pondered the situation and threw a handful of dust, aiming it at Lian Youyou. “Bold demoness! Surrender now!”
Lian Youyou raised an eyebrow, her gaze slanting as she withdrew her hand behind her back, and with a raised chin, she coldly laughed, “Demoness? Who’s the demoness here? I am the divine Lian Youyou, a true god from the Ninth Heaven! I have divine beasts!” Lian Youyou once again took out the black cat wooden plaque, saying, “See! See! This is my divine mount, the Demonic Flame of Darkness!”
Old He Xiucai continued sighing while squatting at the doorway. Lin Yuniang sat on the ground, staring blankly at Lian Youyou.
Li Xiangu, upon hearing this and observing Lian Youyou, felt somewhat relieved. This girl was just a fool, not a female demon. If she wasn’t a demon, what was there to be afraid of?
The villagers around, witnessing Lian Youyou bringing out a worn wooden plaque and claiming it to be a divine beast, were all left dumbfounded.
Lian Youyou raised the wooden plaque high and shouted, “Demonic Flame of Darkness, reveal yourself!” She tossed the wooden plaque with force.
The wooden plaque “whooshed” and landed on He Shiqi’s back, then “thumped.” It bounced off and fell on the ground, still just a wooden plaque.
He Shiqi scratched his head, turned around, glanced at the wooden plaque on the ground, lifted his foot, stepped on it, then picked it up with a foolish grin, and stared at it in confusion.
“Hahahaha!” In an instant, everyone burst into laughter.
“Fool! Another fool!”
“Hahaha! Fool matches fool, turtle matches tortoise!”
“Old He, your wife claims that fool girl is a demoness. Looks like your old lady is a bit cuckoo too.”
“Hahaha, the entire Old He family is a bunch of fools, and even gave birth to a foolish grandson.”
Mr. He Xiucai sighed, covering his face. From the beginning, he thought it was embarrassing and inappropriate for his wife to suddenly rush out and label Lian Youyou as a demoness.
On the other hand, Lin Yuniang became anxious. The nearly seventy-year-old lady jumped up in place, exclaiming, “I’m not crazy! It’s true! It’s true!”
“Come on! Hurry up and escort this whole lunatic family out of here!”
Li Xiangu flicked her dust cloth, and immediately, a few sturdy men from the Liu family surrounded them. They grabbed He Shiqi, who was still foolishly looking at the black cat wooden plaque, and Lin Yuniang. Just as they were about to push Lian Youyou, suddenly, a deep rumbling began which started shaking the earth.
After yesterday’s fireball incident, both the people from South Village and North Village were nervous about any slight tremors. What was about to happen again?!
