Handsome Trash - 34
Hyewon couldn’t lift herself when she woke up the next day.
Part of it was because she had been tormented by Eunhyuk the previous night, but the other part was due to her not having eaten for two days.
She also had not taken her birth control pill.
She had been using birth control to regulate her cycle even before she met Eunhyuk; the pain she experienced every month made it impossible for her to function.
It only took two days of her not taking the pill for her symptoms to start.
“What are you trying to do? Sit down.”
Eunhyuk made her some French toast, but Hyewon could barely manage to sit up straight to eat it.
“What? You don’t like Western food? Do you want Korean?”
‘What kind of food is this…’
The words remained on the tip of her tongue, but they wouldn’t come out. Hyewon had no strength in her body and her vision blurred.
“Ah…”
With a short exclamation, her body fell backward. For a moment, it was pitch black like a fuse had been blown.
If Eunhyuk hadn’t swiftly reached out, she could have hit her head off something hard.
He panicked as he looked at Hyewon, who was white as a sheet and barely breathing.
They were lucky that it was the weekend and Dr. Jang lived in the same building, otherwise he would have thought he was a psycho who nearly killed his girlfriend after an all-nighter.
Dr. Jang is a doctor at Samwoo Group. To be precise, he was their family doctor. Until Eunhyuk’s grandfather passed away, he lived in the same building to reduce the commute to their home in case of an emergency.
“What’s wrong? I made you a meal, so why won’t you eat it…?”
Eunhyuk followed Dr. Jang’s instructions to search Hyewon’s bag for medication and found her birth control pills. He looked up at the doctor in disbelief as he found the pack of pills that was almost gone.
Dr. Jang checked the IV connected to Hyewon’s hand to make sure it was inserted properly, then looked over the stack of her medical records.
“Hmm, this seems temporary. However, according to her medical records, she spent quite a bit of time in the hospital for period pains a few years ago.”
Dr. Jang seems to be discussing this as if he is nothing more than Hyewon’s brother.
“She must have regulated her cycle with birth control pills.”
After Hyewon’s escape, Eunhyuk had instructed the doctor to look into her hospital records, but he had no idea it would help them out in this way.
“… I had no idea.”
“If she’s been in and out of the hospital for these symptoms, it’s not unreasonable for her to be obsessed with birth control pills. Sometimes, bad period pain can be comparable, or even worse than giving birth.”
“That’s crazy.”
Eunhyuk had checked her medical records, but he had only gotten to the point where she had been prescribed medication for irregular periods in her gynecologist’s notes. He had no idea she was going through so much pain.
‘Well, sh*t. If she ever got her period, I would know.’
Eunhyuk almost wished he could go through it for her.
He felt his heart sink as he looked at Hyewon’s white face.
“I’ve given her some painkillers and she’ll wake up soon. I’ll leave some more medicine behind, so make sure to feed her.”
“How can I cure her?”
“Cure what?”
“Menstrual cramps. How can I cure that?”
“Master, a woman has to go through similar pain every month until she reaches menopause. Even temporarily relieving it, you can’t cure it if you never fix the underlying cause.”
Dr. Jang, who had listened to Eunhyuk’s immature rant, clicked his tongue.
“At least she doesn’t get her period during pregnancy,” the doctor muttered to himself. As he gathered the medical equipment he brought with him he spoke once more to Eunhyuk, “We’ll have to take good care of her. Her body seems to be weak.”
“…”
Eunhyuk was on the verge of tears, so Dr. Jang gave a wry smile.
“There are no reports of anyone dying from menstrual cramps in academia yet, so it shouldn’t be too serious. You should stop by the hospital tomorrow and get her properly checked out just in case.”
Even as Dr. Jang gathered his things and left, Eunhyuk was still staring at Hyewon’s tightly closed eyes in a daze.
*.*.*.*.*
The sight of Hyewon’s pale face made Eunhyuk’s heart sink.
The fact that every month she grunted in her sleep and broke out in a cold sweat was even more horrifying.
“Is Dr. Jang a quack? He said you would wake up quickly.”
Hyewon slept for half a day after Dr. Jang left.
It was dark, but Eunhyuk didn’t bother to turn on the lights. He sat straight up in the chair, waiting for Hyewon to wake up. She eventually slowly opened her eyes and let out a low moan.
“Kang Hyewon.”
“It’s night already? How long did I sleep…”
As Hyewon slowly tried to sit up, Eunhyuk gently pushed her shoulders, forcing her to lie back down.
“What the hell? Don’t try to get up, just stay down.”
When Eunhyuk noticed Hyewon finally opened her eyes, he felt so much relief. He reached over her and turned on the low lamp light right next to her. Hyewon stubbornly tried to sit up despite being told not to, and then Eunhyuk’s relief turned to irritation.
“Don’t you have any idea why you’re like this? You’re sore to the point of splitting and we were having s*x until dawn.”
“…”
Breaking the silence, Eunhyuk blurted out the words he had been holding back and Hyewon stared at him in bewilderment.
“Why do you like such trash?” Eunhyuk questioned her, letting out another sigh.
“You’re trash.”
Then, a weak wrinkle formed on Hyewon’s face and she smirked.
“Laughing?”
Eunhyuk couldn’t understand why Hyewon was giggling.
“Are you angry? I’ve been tossing and turning for days and barely slept, and now my body won’t listen to me…”
