Chapter 6  Explains The Sudden Change

Yu Sheng squatted down.

The fifth child raised her little head, and stared suspiciously at Yu Sheng. Her round and timid eyes made her look extremely pitiful.

‘Where else can you see such a well-behaved child.’ Yu Sheng got up to wipe the tears off her cheeks.

However, the fourth son pushed her hand away and blocked her before she could even touch the fifth child.

He stared at Yu Sheng resentfully, “I thought for a moment that you had changed but it turns out, you are still the same. Don’t sell little fifth. We may be young but we can earn money to support each other.”

Yu Sheng initially wanted to explain right away but when she saw that the fourth son was just pretending to be calm, she suddenly had an idea. “Since you said you could make money, then let’s talk about it. Have you figured out how to earn money?”

The fourth son didn’t expect to be questioned. He hesitated for a long time before muttering, “We harvested so many chestnuts today. We can take them to town and sell them.”

Yu Sheng became silent.

The fourth son felt that there was nothing wrong with what he had said, but seeing that she didn’t respond, his heart could not help but skip a beat.

Yu Sheng chuckled at his words but then got serious, “It’s a good idea, but can you harvest chestnuts every day? Moreover, you have been to the town a few times. Do you think you could start a business there? Will you be able to handle it?”

Seeing that the fourth son still wanted to refute, Yu Sheng became even more stern, “Not to mention that there are so many beasts in the mountains. Your second and third older brother had an accident yesterday, can you guarantee their safety when that happens again? What about little fifth’s?”

“How long do you think this plan will last?”

The fourth son shook his head and tried to rebut, but he knew that what she had said wasn’t false.

Seeing that the other children were staring at him, Yu Sheng knew that the conversation was almost done, so she said, “If it’s for food, I’m not too old to work yet. How can I sell my own daughter?”

The children stared at their mother in disbelief that these words actually came from her mouth, each one having different opinions in their minds.

They were thinking about the changes in their mother these past few days. They’re still a bit afraid, but she still hasn’t reverted back yet.

The eldest daughter-in-law is the only one who is completely convinced. Her mother-in-law is not guilty of lying, she has been providing them with food these days, especially for little fifth. 

The fourth son’s face soured as he realized that he was being played. He felt ashamed knowing his face was still flushed with anxiety.

Yu Sheng didn’t care what they thought, seeing little fifth crying made her heart break. She picked the girl up and wiped the tears streaming down her cheeks.

Little fifth embraced Yu Sheng, burying her face into the crook of her mother’s neck and said, “I believe what you said, little fifth will be obedient, eat less and live more.”

Yu Sheng: “?”

She lightly tapped little fifth’s nose and said seriously, “That’s not allowed.”

“Ah.” Little fifth was stunned.

Yu Sheng smiled, “It’s fine that little fifth is sensible but you can only get better if you eat more.”

Little fifth scratched her nose and nodded her head against Yu Sheng’s neck as she thought deeply about what her mother had said, then buried her head even deeper.

Yu Sheng raised her head and saw the children staring at her in horror. She turned to look at the dazed eldest daughter-in-law beside her, “Go find clothes for little fifth and prepare a bath for her.”

“Oh, yes.” The eldest daughter-in-law agreed and hurried to work.

The other kids were staring with covetous eyes.

Yu Sheng knew that she had changed a little bit, and they probably won’t accept it without giving them a proper explanation. It is impossible for her to be as vicious as the original owner, so she could only create an excuse.

“I had a dream yesterday, I dreamed about being dead but no one missed me.”

None of the children dared to respond and just stared at her.

Yu Sheng suppressed a few tears, “In this lifetime, I just want to keep some thoughts to myself, but in the end, I wish I could die.”

“Mother, we don’t dare.” The second and third sons were anxious.

The fourth child didn’t speak, just pursed his lips tightly, with a dignified look.

“A few days ago, your father asked me to treat you well in a dream. If you think about it this way, what your mother did before was really stupid.”

After finishing speaking, Yu Sheng changed her tone, “Okay, you all may go out now, I want to give little fifth a bath.”

“Mother, let me do it.” The eldest daughter-in-law just came out of the kitchen. ‘Although mother is different now, she has never done these jobs before.’

Yu Sheng simply snatched the bath towel from her hand.

“It’s fine for me and my daughter to take a bath, so go and do other things.”

Inside the room, little fifth poked her head out of the tub timidly.

“Mother, I like you.”

After she said that, she shrank her body back into the water in fear.

Yu Sheng fished her out, thinking that this little girl was really funny. The girl still looked afraid of her not too long ago, she gently tickled her nose, “Then why do you like mother?”

Little fifth hesitated for a long time, seeing her mother looking at her with a smile, she gave it up, hugged her, and said softly: “Mother is nice now.”

“Pfft~” This little girl’s mouth is really sweet, Yu Sheng likes it even more, but she made a serious face on purpose, “If you like your mother, listen to your mother’s words, and eat well in the future, otherwise…”

“Oh, please don’t change back, mother.” Little fifth trembled in fright, but hugged her mother even tighter.

“Mother, I went to the village to ask about the ox cart last night. The ox carts travel to and fro twice a day, and more than an hour to go to the town. We could go after eating.”
