Da Li Temple - Chapter 26.2
Chapter 26.2
Injured
The guards had captured the murderer, but perhaps because of the intense struggle, a few guards stabbed him out of self-defense when arresting him. After the murderer lost consciousness, he slipped into the river, sucked in several mouthfuls of water, and was already out of breath when they pulled him up.
??
“Quickly go find a doctor!” Seeing this, Lin Wanqing immediately wanted to rush forward.
??
Su Moyi pulled her back, “What are you doing?”
??
Everyone looked at her with disbelief in their eyes.
??
Lin Wanqing didn’t care about that much, shaking off Su Moyi’s hand, finding the cloak that she had thrown by the river just now, and helping the murderer hold down his bleeding wounds.
??
“My mission is to bring the suspect to law.” She ripped the cloak from her hand and wrapped it around the murderer’s abdomen, adding, “Whether he is dead or alive depends on the law.”
??
Su Moyi couldn’t argue with her, so he ordered Ye Qing to go to the city to find a doctor. Seeing the wound was bandaged, Lin Wanqing let the guards put on the shackles for the murderer.
??
The change only happened in a split second. The murderer on the ground suddenly woke up and snatched the saber on the waist of the guard at his side and stabbed Lin Wanqing’s back!
??
“Hiss–” The sound of a blade entering flesh rang in her ears.
??
Lin Wanqing couldn’t react in time. She only felt a powerful force pull her away, and then she fell into an embrace with the pine wood scent. With two clangs, the saber was kicked to the ground. That embrace spun her around, and she saw the murderer’s grim face. He instantly spurted out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground with several sharp knives on his body. Even in death, he stared at Lin Wanqing with those cloudy eyes.
??
Lin Wanqing was stunned, subconsciously reaching out to embrace the person holding her, but only touched warm wetness with the fishy smell.
??
“Lo, Lord Su ……” She froze for a moment, whimpering in her throat, barely able to make a sound. His scent was all over her nostrils, and the smell of blood gradually masked the good-smelling pine fragrance.
??
“Su Moyi ……” Lin Wanqing mumbled, realizing that the hands holding her had gradually lost their strength.
??
“Su Moyi!” With the strength steeply loosened, Lin Wanqing could not hold his abruptly falling body. Under the dim light, she only saw the shocking piece of red on the side of his waist.
??
*
The carriage galloped along, carrying Su Moyi back to Da Li Temple. Some guards helped the Imperial Doctor to hold the lamp, while some helped to boil water. Ye Qing stood by Su Moyi’s bedside anxiously. Dozens of oil lamps brightened the room, and everyone was busy coming and going. Only Lin Wanqing grabbed her wet sleeves and stood frozen in the doorway, expressionlessly looking at the man on the bed with a blood-soaked robe. His hair and robes hadn’t dried yet, plastering to his body. The fine lines between his usually furrowed brows were no longer there. He just lay there, pale and weak.
??
The crowd carefully changed his wet clothes, and the Imperial Doctor sprinkled blood-clotting powder on Su Moyi’s waist. But the powder diluted after several tries because the wound was too deep. So, he had to use a clean, thick gauze to stop the bleeding. However, the moment he pressed it down, the blood gurgled out, so he had to replace it with another one.
??
In a short period, three pieces of gauze were already wet. When The Imperial Doctor was about to start stitching, they cleared all the people present to avoid disturbance, leaving only Ye Qing, who was holding a lamp with a grave expression.
??
“You have to talk to him while I’m stitching,” The Imperial Doctor instructed while threading the needle, “Don’t let him fall asleep.”
??
The churning sensation in her abdomen hit her, making Lin Wanqing want to vomit a little. She covered her mouth as she retreated to the wall, gasping for air.
??
Would he die? When this thought popped up, she was abruptly startled. Her heart couldn’t tell what it felt like. She only felt the wall she held was shaking non-stop. At some point, it started to rain outside. It was the provoking kind of rain, tearing the night apart.
??
The oil lamp in Ye Qing’s hand swayed, and not knowing how long, the doctor finally cut the thread in his hand. The wound no longer oozed blood, but Su Moyi didn’t wake up.
??
Ye Qing never stopped calling him, but every sentence fell into the night breeze and disappeared into the rain. Su Moyi couldn’t drink the medicine to fix qi and replenish blood, so everyone could only be anxious. Only Lin Wanqing looked at the sleeping Su Moyi dully, like a stone statue. In her impression, Lord Su seemed always sitting upright and never smiled. He carried a natural intimidating pressure, as if demons, devils, ghosts, and monsters couldn’t approach him. Suddenly, she remembered the first time she saw him in the Capital Government Office. Because she yearned for criminal justice, when she was young, she would secretly look at the books in the streets to fantasize about what those famous ministers of the past generations and those judges, who had broken the cases like gods, were like. But when she saw Su Moyi, she didn’t fantasize anymore. It was because she felt that the Chief of Da Li Temple, who was in charge of the world’s criminal justice, should be like this. It could only be like him.
??
“Lord ……” In the evening breeze and chilly rain, Lin Wanqing walked over and held Su Moyi’s hand. It was cold, without a trace of warmth.
?
“Lord,” she called to him, her voice choked with sobs. “Don’t sleep ……”
??
“Don’t you want to know about me? Shall I tell you about me when I was a child?”
??
The listener was silent, and all that answered her was the wind moving the curtain.
??
“They all say that you are a famous genius in Sheng City, opening your mind at three and becoming a poet at four. But do you know, Lord, that I was a late starter in reading when I was young, and by the time I was six, I still couldn’t read much? That book you can recite backward and forward, Records of Washed Grievances, I memorized it ten times. But each time, I forget after memorizing it.” A moist warmth came from the back of her hand, and Lin Wanqing realized that she couldn’t control her tears.
??
“Later, I decided I could only eat one meal a day if I didn’t memorize it. As a result, I nearly starved myself to death ……” Tears mixed with a self-deprecating laugh, and her voice grew sad.
??
“Lord, I’m not like you …… I’m not a genius. I don’t have a noble family on my side. I’ve spent a hundred times, a thousand times more effort than the next person to get here. I’ve always only had myself. I’ve never owed favors ……”
??
“So you …… don’t let me owe you ……” The wind blew the curtain, and the firelight leaped lightly.
??
Lin Wanqing felt a slight tightening in her hands. Under that leaping light, the man turned around leisurely. His pale eyebrows tinted with fatigue and sternness while his eyes reflected the leaping candle flame. He looked at her in askance, unable to hide the condescension and disdain in his eyes.
??
“I saved you …… because I don t want your matter …… to drag me down.” Su Moyi’s voice was hoarse but not less mean. He calmed down and could not stop the disgust: “You can’t memorize it even after ten times…… hehe ……”
??
“Still have the face to say?”
