- Chapter 16 - Part 2 - Confrontation in the Dark (2/2)
Lu Yinge pushed open the iron gate in silence, his mind a mess of frustration like a tangle of countless threads that he couldn’t unravel.
He hadn’t expected the new team leader to be a woman, let alone such a petite girl. He didn’t typically lose his temper with women; it wasn’t something he would do. But now, his anger was bottled up inside, with no way to vent it except to keep it to himself.
Damn it.
He cursed silently in his mind, increasing his pace without showing it, and positioning himself in front of Lin Yu.
They should be in the lobby now. The hospital was eerily quiet, and the deep darkness amplified feelings of confusion and fear. The harsh white light of their flashlights did nothing to ease the atmosphere; it only added to the desolation.
Each corridor seemed like a gaping maw of darkness which made Lu Yinge furrow his brow.
Evening had passed into night, and the somber twilight deepened. The nocturnal darkness flowed through every corner, and a light breeze rustled through the hallway which made the windows at the corner of the staircase rattle as if echoing the cries of dying souls.
“Let’s search every room one by one.”
As a fan of “Escape Room” and “American Horror Story,” Lin Yu wasn’t fazed by the idea of navigating a hospital.
The West District Hospital had reappeared in such a bizarre manner, and there must be hidden secrets behind it. What they lacked now were clues.
The hospital was quite spacious with corridors weaving into intricate and complex patterns on the first floor. As they entered one of them, they heard a series of jarring thumping sounds.
Thump, thump, thump.
That was the sound of iron rods forcefully striking the walls, echoing through the deserted corridor which sent a chilling sensation straight to their hearts.
The sound resonated from both sides, surrounding them in the middle of the corridor. As the thumping grew louder, Lin Yu finally saw the faces of the two responsible.
One was fat, the other thin; they are both completely bald, and towering at over two meters in height. They moved like sluggish mountains, their iron rods striking the walls with every ounce of their strength.
Lu Yinge sneered, “Playing tricks.”
Lin Yu looked serious and exclaimed in a low voice, “These two bald guys are so ugly.”
…Why is she focused on such a weird detail?
She paused for a second, then lifted her head with interest, “I know you’re not happy with me. How about this, let’s take this opportunity to have a little competition.”
Lu Yinge raised an eyebrow but remained silent. She continued, “There’s definitely more than just these two creatures here. Let’s see who can capture more, shall we?”
He chuckled softly in response.
The bloodthirsty glint in his eyes was like a shooting star across his vision. Lu Yinge lazily licked his lips, and his voice filled with a hint of satisfaction, “I can reluctantly accept that proposal. Let’s begin then.”
Meanwhile, the two bald men who had surrounded them in the corridor exchanged glances and raised their iron rods.
The fat one let out a beastly hoarse roar, “The hunt begins!”
Wait, something’s not right.
Why isn’t that girl showing any signs of fear? Instead, she’s coming at him with a terrifying smile.
The fat guy hadn’t even finished his thought when a sudden side kick took him off guard, and he experienced a sensation he had never felt before.
“Hmm, that’s right,” Lin Yu rubbed her wrist and looked down at him with a high vantage point, “the hunt has begun.”
What kind of monsters are these?!
The fat guy realized the situation was dire, and screamed, “Use the smoke bomb and run!”
This was definitely one of the most thrilling experiences of his life.
Both he and the thin guy were the lowest-ranked residents in the hospital. When they encountered the murderous lunatics, they often used the homemade smoke bombs they carried with them to escape — essentially, it was just lime powder.
But what was going on with those two people? They were terrifyingly crazy! They were almost as insane as the guys in the intensive care unit!
Fortunately, the hospital’s hallways were intricate, and they had managed to evade the two for quite a while before deciding to hide in a storage room.
This was originally their hunting ground.
Based on the fat guy’s experience, escapees were more likely to hide in small concealed spaces like closets, and they had used this psychology to their advantage, killing quite a few people.
Who would have thought that they would end up hiding inside a closet themselves one day?
Perhaps due to nervousness, the fat guy was unusually silent after hiding in the closet. He stood still and stiff. On the other hand, the thin guy fidgeted uncomfortably and asked, “Bro, do you feel like the closet is a bit cramped?”
The fat guy didn’t answer.
He was trembling.
In the thick darkness that felt like a solid entity, a familiar face appeared from beside the fat guy.
It was an incredibly beautiful and serene woman, with almond-shaped eyes that curved into a gentle smile. However, in such a sinister setting, she couldn’t help but appear exceptionally terrifying.
Her long black hair partially covered half her face, and the faint light filtering through the gap was fully absorbed by her eyes, making them eerily bright.
Lin Yu’s voice was ethereal and soft like a whisper in their ears, “I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. The closet is indeed a good hiding place, isn’t it?”
Darn.
Darn, darn, darn, darn, darn!
What’s wrong with this woman?! She’s actually ambushing us!
The thin guy’s voice and body trembled. His stiff body writhed like a convulsing worm, and he nervously said, “Bro, what should we do now?”
“What should we do! Out of the closet!” roared the fat guy.
They pushed open the closet door with their tongues hanging out. The heavy light flooded their vision, and just as they were about to embark on an exciting escape from the hospital, they found their will to survive abruptly crushed.
A tall menacing man with a strong presence stood in the doorway, and his eyes filled with ferocity.
They were trapped between a rock and a hard place. The fat guy had anticipated that the closet would be an excellent hunting ground, but he never expected to guess the beginning of this story yet miss out on its ending.
Stepping out of the closet for the first time in his life was this kind of experience. He felt exhausted and wanted to cry.
The thin guy had given up hope, his words incoherent, and he chuckled in a poignant manner, “Bro, you were right. The closet is indeed a good hiding place. Haha, haha.”
The fat guy had tears streaming down his face, “Brother, sister, please don’t beat us up.”
“Player Lin Yu, awarded two points.” Lin Yu held one of them by the shoulder, ignoring the grotesque and twisted expressions on the two big men’s faces.
Then she looked towards Lu Yinge with a leisurely gaze. “You’ll have to step up your game.”
