Chapter 34.4
That face was similar to the one he remembered —
Elder Zhong turned around, ordered the medicine boy to take care of Luo Wanqing, waved his hand, and said, “I’m leaving.”
Luo Wanqing lay on the bed, and after a moment, the medicine boy came up and helped Luo Wanqing get up.
Luo Wanqing felt a fiery pain on her face, but the rest of her was fine. She got up and sat for a while, then stood up, said goodbye to the medicine boy, endured the pain, and walked out. She had walked a few steps when she saw Xie Heng waiting at the door with Zhu Que. Luo Wanqing was stunned, then hurriedly saluted towards Xie Heng, “Young Master.”
Xie Heng looked at her, turned his head, and glanced at the maidservant. Zhu Que immediately understood and hurriedly yelled, “Someone come and help.”
Luo Wanqing froze and saw Xie Heng nodding at her, then turned to leave. The maid came up to help her, and Zhu Que turned his head to look at her and seriously criticized her, “You don’t need to pretend strong. Whenever I got injured in this Inspection Department, I let someone support me. After all, I’m a boss.”
“What Zhu Que said is true.” Luo Wanqing sniffed and couldn’t help but smile. Still, when she laughed, it hurt a little.
Zhu Que waved his hand at the situation and said, “Leave, laugh some other day. It’s ugly.”
Luo Wanqing pursed her lips and nodded her head to bid farewell. She was helped back to her room by the maidservant, and then she drank the medicine dispensed by Zhong Lingshu. According to Zhong Lingshu’s request, she began to run her inner energy and meditate, borrowing the effect of medicine to run her internal energy repeatedly to promote the wound’s healing. Initially, it was a fiery pain, but slowly, the wound began to itch. This itch was like ants crawling on her body; she couldn’t scratch or wave it away. By the time the pain and itching intensified in the middle of the night, she was somewhat unable to stay up, so she gave up meditating and rolled over in bed. She gasped for air and pounded her hands on the wall, tossing and turning for a long time, but she couldn’t drive away the discomfort caused by the healing wounds. She didn’t know how long she had been up for when an ancient zither suddenly sounded outside. Like a needle in the stormy sea, the sound was very calm, instantly clearing Luo Wanqing’s consciousness. She lifted her cold, sweaty face and looked towards the window but couldn’t see anyone. The following days, it was the same: meditating and soaking medicine repeatedly.
On the fifth day, Zhong Lingshu finally came back. He brought someone to remove Luo Wanqing’s bandages, carefully examined and scrutinized her for a while, and then happily said, “Good, it’s better than I imagined! Take a look.” Saying this, Zhong Lingshu placed a mirror in front of Luo Wanqing.
Luo Wanqing raised her eyes and saw herself in the mirror. It was very similar to before, yet not too similar. Because the eyes had become slender, the whole person looked colder compared to the past. The slightly adjusted upward corners of the eyes vaguely added a few more points of flirtatiousness. Besides that, there was almost no change from that face in the past.
“Is it too good-looking?” Zhong Lingshu probed his head, looked at the mirror, and then at Luo Wanqing, and couldn’t help but sigh, “It’s truly a peerless beauty! How come I never encountered such a beauty when I was young?”
“Elder Zhong!”
Zhong Lingshu had just finished speaking when Zhu Que rushed in in high spirits, “How is it? Young Master said he wants it to be ……” Before Zhu Que finished his words, he froze in place. When Zhong Lingshu saw his appearance, he smiled and asked, “What did Young Master say?”
“Oh.” Only then did Zhu Que react, moving his gaze over, not daring to look at Luo Wanqing, only saying, “Let Agent Liu go over there. You guys can freshen up.”
Zhu Que turned his head away, “I’m leaving.”
“Hey! Kiddo!” Zhong Lingshu shouted toward Zhu Que’s back, then looked at the silent Luo Wanqing strangely. “Why are you so calm? Isn’t this face pretty enough?”
“Elder Zhong’s handiwork is excellent.” Luo Wanqing turned back and nodded, “It’s me who was a bit startled.”
“It’s your bones that’s good.” Zhong Lingshu nodded.
Luo Wanqing’s heart thumped. She raised her head to look at Zhong Lingshu and hesitated before saying, “Elder Zhong, can I ask you for something?”
“Hmm?” Zhong Lingshu looked over in confusion. Luo Wanqing pursed her lips and carefully said, “Can you not tell others about our bones similar and not having too many changes?”
“Why?” Zhong Lingshu didn’t understand.
Luo Wanqing smiled gently, “I still want to take credit. If I can make Young Master feel pity, I’ll have advantages in the future.”
Zhong Lingshu understood and nodded, “All right, I’ll listen to everything a beauty says.”
Luo Wanqing knew that Zhong Lingshu was joking and nodded her head, “Many thanks.”
“Hurry up and freshen up.” Zhong Lingshu greeted the maidservant outside and urged, “Xie Heng is waiting. It’s the first time he has waited for a woman. I’ll leave first if there’s nothing else. Ask Xie Heng to call me if you need me.”
“Elder Zhong, be careful.” Luo Wanqing got up and sent Zhong Lingshu away. Afterward, she turned around and saw a female attendant carrying a water-blue wide-sleeved robe. She served Luo Wanqing to put on the clothes usually worn by noble women. She pulled up her hair in a bun, put on her dangling headgear, and wore the Thousand Machines on her body. Then, she followed her out of the small courtyard.
Xie Heng was playing chess with Qing Ya in the courtyard. Someone led Luo Wanqing to the long corridor. Before she could salute, she heard Xie Heng say, “Don’t kneel.” Xie Heng twirled his chess pieces and pulled up his sleeves, casually raising his eyes. The watery blue woman’s figure came into his eyes. It was a face similar to but different from his memory. He remembered that person coming toward him with determination and vulnerability, like a piece of cracked, sharp, and beautifully dispersed ice on the earth; however, the woman on the promenade at the moment carried the calmness laced with the sharpness of a sword. She was born with such beautiful and gentle features but was surrounded by coldness.
At that time, the wind blew spring’s peach blossoms all over the sky. The woman raised her hand, her sleeves sliding down, revealing the Thousand Machines that he wrapped around her wrist. She nodded slightly and respectfully said, “Young Master.”
