Became the Terminally Ill Supporting Male Lead’s Rabbit Spirit - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The orange-yellow sunlight fell on the trees, piercing through the branches and leaves, casting mottled star-like shadows on the ground.
A young boy in a school uniform stood tall, with deep-set eyes and eyebrows, holding a snow-white little rabbit in his hands. No matter how you looked at it, it seemed like a beautiful painting.
Su Ci’s little feet fidgeted uneasily, her gaze filled with anticipation as she looked at Lu Zhe.
“Lu Zhe!”
From a distance, Li Dongliang, wearing a pink backpack and pink sneakers, ran over. His eyes lit up as he looked at the rabbit in Lu Zhe’s hands, “Lu Zhe, let me touch it.”
Seeing the fluffy, snowball-like rabbit, it would be an affront to the heavens if he didn’t get to pet it.
“No.” Lu Zhe refused directly.
She was so close, she could feel that Lu Zhe was about to kiss her, and now it was interrupted!
With her red eyes, Su Ci angrily glared at this flashy pink boy.
So infuriating!
“Ah, look, the bunny is looking at me. It likes me.” Li Dongliang noticed the little rabbit gazing at him blankly, and his heart fluttered from the cuteness. He was itching to reach out and pat the rabbit’s head.
Humph!
Su Ci gave him a disdainful look.
“See, it’s looking at me again.”
Su Ci glanced at the hand he stretched out to touch her. On the inside of his wrist, there were six yellow squares, indicating sixty years!
Su Ci’s eyes grew redder.
Do they all have such long lifespans?
Then she looked at Lu Zhe, who was holding her, with only three years left to live. He was undoubtedly a short-lived supporting male lead!
“Ah, the bunny is looking at my hand, it must want me to hold it.” Li Dongliang’s originally sunny and handsome face broke into a silly grin, reminiscent of the foolish son of a wealthy landlord.
Annoyed, Su Ci simply closed her eyes.
Seeing the little rabbit close its eyes, appearing cute and obedient, Li Dongliang’s heart, despite being that of a rugged man, thumped with girlish excitement. “Brother Zhe, is the bunny soft? Let me touch it, just a little bit.”
When had the little tyrant of the class ever begged someone? Just to pet a rabbit, he didn’t care about his pride. He might get a nosebleed due to the overwhelming cuteness of the bunny.
Lu Zhe evaded Li Dongliang’s reaching hand, giving him a brief indifferent glance, “Jia Mingyang still has four laps to go.” After saying that, he turned around and left, holding the rabbit.
Unable to pet the rabbit, Li Dongliang made a mournful face and shouted at Jia Mingyang, who looked as exhausted as a dead dog, “Jia Mingyang, you’re so slow! Are you even a man? You’re running so slowly. Don’t delay my dinner.”
On the other side, Jia Mingyang was panting like he was about to pass out, his clothes soaked in sweat. Hearing Li Dongliang’s words, he felt as if a his breath was stuck in his throat, nearly suffocating him from anger.
Who asked him to supervise anyway?
Just leave!
On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends, Lu Zhe would work part-time in a computer shop.
The owner of the computer store was a chubby man. He wasn’t very tall, and his face was padded with excess flesh on both sides. His curly hair looked a bit messy and unkempt.
“You’re here, young man. Alright, you look after the store. Son, stay with your brother Zhe here. Dad will go upstairs and cook for you.” Boss Fang grabbed the keys from the table and headed upstairs..
The boss’s son, Fang Kuaile, was just over three years old, nearing four. He had a fair and delicate appearance, with refined features that didn’t resemble Boss Fang’s.
He sat in a mini wheelchair, and when he saw Lu Zhe, he struggled to wheel himself over to him, politely saying, “Brother Zhe, you’re five minutes late today.”
The little guy was very smart, having already learned to tell time and mastered addition and subtraction up to a hundred.
Lu Zhe’s cold hand patted his head, lips slightly curled, “En, I had something to do today.” He set down his backpack, unzipped it, and took out the rabbit to avoid it getting stuffy inside.
Xiao Kuaile looked at the tiny white ball of fur on the table, his shiny black eyes widening instantly, “Rab … rabbit.”
He was a bit scared but also intrigued, “Brother Zhe, this is a bunny.”
“Yes.”
Xiao Kuaile looked enviously at the rabbit, “The bunny has four legs, it must run very fast.”
The child in front of her had a tender voice, looking immaculately adorable like a little angel. However, Su Ci noticed that he sat in a wheelchair with no legs.
An angel with broken wings.
“Daddy said that once we have enough money, he’ll get me two legs, and then I’ll be able to walk and run as fast as s bunny,” Little Kuaile said cheerfully.
He didn’t realize that even with prosthetic limbs, he would face many challenges to walk normally, let alone run like others.
A hint of pity flashed in Su Ci’s eyes.
“Brother Zhe, what’s the bunny’s name?” Xiao Kuaile asked Lu Zhe.
Lu Zhe answered succinctly, “None.”
“Ah, the bunny doesn’t have a name?” Xiao Kuaile opened his small mouth in surprise, “You should name it quickly, or it’ll be sad.”
Lu Zhe was silent for a moment.
He looked at the bunny, which resembled a snowball, and casually said, “Tuantuan.”
“The bunny’s name Tuantuan?” Xiao Kuaile blinked his shiny big eyes.
“Yes.”
Su Ci didn’t expect Lu Zhe to name her.
What’s with ‘Tuantuan¹’? A lump of something? Or because she’s chubby?
No matter how she thought about it, it wasn’t a good name. She snorted, clearly disapproved!
“Brother Zhe, will Tuantuan bite?” Xiao Kuaile asked Lu Zhe again.
“No, it won’t.”
Hearing this, Xiao Kuaile reached out and gently touched the bunny with his tiny finger, his eyes lighting up, “Tuantuan is a good bunny, don’t bite Kuaile.” Saying that, he touched the bunny again with his finger.
With just this simple touch, Xiao Kuaile already grinned widely, revealing his tiny white teeth.
Su Ci remained still.
She saw the life value inside of his wrist. There was just a thin red line in the grid, not even filling one square.
Su Ci got closer to his wrist and noticed the annotation next to the grid: 1 day.
He only has one day left to live?
Shock filled Su Ci’s red eyes. It was hard to believe that the fair-skinned child in front of her only had one day of life left.
She called out to Fu Gui, “Does he really only have one day left to live? Could there be a mistake?”
Fu Gui: [There’s no mistake!]
Meeting Xiao Kuaile’s bright, smiling eyes, Su Ci asked Fu Gui, “Can I save him? If I kiss him, can his life be extended?”
Fu Gui: [I don’t know if you can save him, but the kiss will only work with Lu Zhe and is ineffective with others.]
Su Ci: “You don’t know?”
Fu Gui: [Previous owners could only see the life value of one person. There has never been a case like yours where you can see everyone’s life value. So, I don’t know if you can save him.]
Su Ci: “Oh.”
Fu Gui: [Don’t be sad.]
Su Ci: “I’m not sad. Life is predetermined by fate.”
Su Ci accepted the situation quickly. Before her transmigration, she died of a heart attack, so she was no stranger to the concept of a short life.
Fu Gui thought that his owner would cry and beg him to find a way to save the boy. After all, his previous owner was a kind-hearted girl with very developed tear glands and a strong sense of sympathy. He didn’t expect that his current owner seemed to be rather cold-hearted.
Knowing that her kisses only worked for Lu Zhe, Su Ci felt relieved. She was not a savior and did not wish to bear such responsibility. Right now, she was just a poor, helpless little rabbit who couldn’t even take care of herself.
Seeing the rabbit hop towards him, Xiao Kuaile’s round eyes sparkled even more.
He took out two candies that he had hidden away, reluctant to eat them himself. Thoughtfully, he unwrapped the candies and offered one to the rabbit, saying, “This is candy. One for you, one for me. Now, we’re good friends.” The little boy remembered his father saying that good children should learn to share.
“It can’t eat candy.” While sitting in front of the computer, Lu Zhe coldly responded as his hands were busy typing on the keyboard.
“I know, bunnies eat carrots.” Xiao Kuaile’s big shiny eyes curled up in a smile, looking so adorable that it could melt anyone’s heart.
Recalling how he had fed the bunny carrots for three consecutive days after finding it, a hint of embarrassment hid in the depths of Lu Zhe’s dark eyes.
Lu Zhe worked at the computer shop from 6 pm to 9 pm, and on weekends, from 9 am to 6 pm.
The night deepened, and the crescent moon appeared behind the clouds.
Lu Zhe left holding the rabbit.
Upon leaving the computer store, there were several street stalls on both sides of the road. He stopped at a small ornament stall set up by an old man.
“Young man, take a look. The jewelry here is very popular among girls,” the old man seated on a small stool said with a smile.
Lu Zhe picked up a bracelet from the stall. It was a delicate red bracelet with a small green gourd attached, roughly the size of a fingernail. Even in the dim light, it was evident that the gourd was made of plastic and of average quality.
“Young man, are you buying this bracelet for your girlfriend? I have a better one here.”
The old man took another bracelet out of the bag hanging in front of him. This red bracelet had a white jade-colored gourd, the size of a fingernail, and its quality was visibly better than the one in Lu Zhe’s hand.
“If you’re buying it for your girlfriend, get this one. She’ll surely like it,” the old man said, genuinely thinking it was a better choice for someone as handsome as Lu Zhe.
“She’s not my girlfriend.” Lu Zhe put down the bracelet he was holding and took the one handed over by the old man. He then wrapped the red string around the rabbit’s hind leg.
The jade-colored gourd looked exceptionally adorable on the rabbit’s foot.
Su Ci shook her little foot, and the small gourd trembled. Was this a gift from Lu Zhe? She looked up but only saw the stern jawline of the young man.
“How much is it?” Lu Zhe asked.
“Well, the gourd on this bracelet is made of jade remnants, so it’s not cheap. It costs three hundred yuan. If you’re buying for the rabbit, you can get the previous one for just thirty yuan,” the old man replied candidly, without any intention to deceive.
“Alright, I’ll take this one.” Lu Zhe promptly paid the old man, holding the rabbit, and left.
At the stall, the old man held the three hundred yuan, astonished that the young man bought such an expensive bracelet for just a rabbit.
Streetlights cast long shadows on the road.
Nestled in Lu Zhe’s hand, Su Ci looked down at the red string on her foot, feeling a bit humiliated. This was the first time she had worn such inexpensive jewelry.
…
The next morning.
Lu Zhe opened his backpack, and as expected, the snowball-like rabbit had somehow sneaked inside. He took it out.
“Stay at home,” Lu Zhe lifted the rabbit to face him, gently tapping its light pink nose.
Having been caught again, Su Ci snorted in annoyance. She wouldn’t have a chance to become human in this lifetime, would she?
Thinking this, she bit her rabbit teeth and backed away slightly with her two legs. The next second, disregarding any potential consequences, she mustered all her strength and leaped towards the handsome face looming in front of her.
Lu Zhe was initially taken aback but quickly caught the falling rabbit. His mouth got bumped by the rabbit; it wasn’t painful but felt weird.
He gazed down at it, finding its red eyes astonishingly bright.
Sighing, Lu Zhe placed the rabbit back into the cardboard box. Next to it, there was a small bowl filled with rabbit feed. He thought it was time to buy a proper rabbit cage.
He closed the door.
Walking at a moderate pace, Lu Zhe felt the numbness in his left leg intensifies compared to yesterday.
Perhaps in not too long, even walking would become an issue for him.
The bedroom was quiet.
The red string wrapped around the snow-white, slender ankle made the jade-colored gourd look even more delicate and refined against the pale foot.
Su Ci blankly looked at her body, which was snow-white and exquisitely shaped. Her jet-black long hair concealed the view in front of her. Just with this figure alone, she already looked enchantingly beautiful like a seductive little fairy.
Realizing she was not wearing any clothes, Su Ci hastily pulled over the gray blanket from the bed.
¹: Tuantuan (??), literally means ’round’, but usually as a nickname for pet or chubby babies, who usually looking round and cute.
I thought about it and I’m sorry but from now on, the chapters would be set on this quality. This way I could upload chapters way faster. thank you for reading.
