Became the Terminally Ill Supporting Male Lead’s Rabbit Spirit - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
The smile in Su Ci’s eyes froze.
She blinked in disbelief, “Did Lu Zhe get shy? Or is he angry?”
Fu Gui: [He might be tired.]
Su Ci snorted softly, “Never mind, you better keep quiet.”
Fu Gui trembled slightly.
Entering the room, the pink bed added a touch of warmth to the otherwise cold atmosphere.
Su Ci’s gaze landed on the desk. There was a cup with a cute rabbit pattern on it. It was her choice, adorable and lovely. She had such good taste.
Picking up the cup, it was filled with warm water. Probably, while she was taking a bath, Lu Zhe had poured it for her.
He clearly looked so indifferent, yet he was incredibly attentive.
…
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the window, warming the previously cold storage room.
Noises from outside interrupted the calm. Lu Zhe opened his eyes, traces of drowsiness evident, making him look less distant than usual. He got up from the foldable bed.
Upon opening the door, the source of the noise became evident.
Walking out, Lu Zhe realized the noise was coming from the kitchen.
“What are you doing?”
Lu Zhe’s voice, slightly raspy from just waking up, sounded unexpectedly charming, startling Su Ci in the kitchen.
She almost burned her hand.
“Good morning.” Su Ci turned to face him, “I’m making breakfast.”
Lu Zhe noticed water spilled on the floor, rice scattered on the countertop, and discarded carrot peels. He remembered Su Ci once claimed she was good at cooking.
Sensing a burnt smell from the kitchen, Lu Zhe expressionlessly approached.
He stood next to Su Ci, lifting the pot’s lid, only to find a thick porridge so sticky that it was almost solidifying into a lump of rice.
“Put too little water.” Su Ci said with a hint of frustration.
Lu Zhe glanced at the carrot beside her. It was cut unevenly and looked overcooked.
“This carrot is too hard to stir-fry; no matter how I cook it, it remains hard.” Su Ci whispered her complaints.
This morning, Su Ci hadn’t lingered in bed. Instead, she woke up early to prepare breakfast. Over the past days, Lu Zhe had been taking care of her in every possible way. She felt the need to show some initiative, so he’d know she wasn’t just freeloading.
To present herself in the best light, she even dressed in the new skirt they bought yesterday and tied her hair up in a half-bun, adding a touch of gentleness to her demeanor.
However, while she looked beautiful, her cooking skills left much to be desired.
Su Ci looked pitifully at Lu Zhe, showing her finger which had a small cut from the knife.
If she couldn’t impress him with her culinary skills, she might as well earn his sympathy.
She said, trying to sound pitiful, “Lu Zhe, I got cut by the knife while making breakfast for you.”
She exaggerated a bit, “It bled a lot just now; I don’t know if it’ll get infected by bacteria.”
Lu Zhe lowered his gaze.
On her delicate fingertip, there indeed was a tiny cut. It appeared to have barely broken the skin’s surface, leaving a thin red line that was hardly noticeable. How could such a minor injury bleed? It didn’t even need bandaging or medication.
He looked at Su Ci, who had damp, dark eyes and a pale face, appearing as if she had suffered a great injustice. Without a doubt, her earlier claims about being skilled in cleaning and doing laundry were likely also untrue.
Lu Zhe spoke, “You sit outside.”
Su Ci obediently nodded, without offering to stay and help in the kitchen. At least she had some self-awareness.
She didn’t keep track of time.
Watching Lu Zhe bring out the porridge that seemed transformed, it was clear he had added water and re-cooked it. The large charred pieces of carrot she had stir-fried were replaced with a refreshing vegetable dish, and another small dish held several freshly steamed custard buns.
Su Ci glanced at Lu Zhe, who sat opposite her, maintaining a stony face with no emotion. Somehow, she felt he was very capable.
To her, anyone with better cooking skills seemed impressive.
She picked up a custard bun and took a bite. The bun was soft, and the delicious custard filling oozed out. It tasted wonderful.
Compared to her previous diet of rabbit food or gnawing on carrots, Su Ci felt that being able to eat buns now was an immense blessing.
Lu Zhe informed Su Ci, “I have an errand to run this afternoon.”
“Where are you going?” Su Ci inquired.
“For work.” Yesterday, Boss Fang had sent him the client’s address.
“I’ll accompany you,” Su Ci said without hesitation.
Being alone here was too dull, and she’d rather be by Lu Zhe’s side. “I promise, I won’t hinder your work.”
As she finished speaking, the doorbell at the entrance rang.
“Is someone looking for you?” Su Ci asked Lu Zhe.
The doorbell rang a few more times.
“I’ll go check.” Lu Zhe got up.
Upon opening the door, he saw a middle-aged man in a suit standing outside, followed by two others carrying gift bags.
“May I inquire if Miss Su Ci resides here?” the middle-aged man asked Lu Zhe.
“Are you looking for me?”
Hearing that it was for her, Su Ci approached and immediately recognized the man as the housekeeper of the Fu family. “Is there something you need?”
The Fu family housekeeper smiled and spoke, “Miss Su Ci, these are gifts of gratitude that the old lady asked me to bring to you.”
“I recall that your young master already expressed his gratitude and gave me 20,000 yuan,” Su Ci remembered clearly the miserliness of Fu Baili.
The housekeeper detected the girl’s sarcasm, but he maintained a polite smile on his face. “The old lady insisted on personally thanking you. Each of these gifts has been carefully selected by her. Please accept them, Miss Su Ci.”
He continued, “The police have apprehended the person responsible for the high-rise vandalism. They did it impulsively due to a bad mood, tossing the damaged glass teapot from above. Thanks to you, Miss Su Ci, the old lady escaped a potential disaster. She said that in the future, if you ever need assistance, you can turn to the Fu family.”
In the past, many heiresses had gone to great lengths to pursue Fu Baili, devising ways to get close to him, to be by his side. There was even one occasion when a wealthy young lady shifted her attention to the old lady, all in the hope of getting closer to Fu Baili.
This time, Su Ci had saved the old lady, and the situation was just too coincidental, leading Fu Baili to wonder if this all had been planned in advance.
That was why Fu Baili casually dismissed Su Ci, and the old lady did not object. It wasn’t until last night when the truth was revealed by the police that the old lady promptly sent people to express her gratitude.
Su Ci was clever and immediately caught the subtle undertones in the housekeeper’s words. In high society, who didn’t have their hidden agendas? Now that the Fu family had realized that she truly was the old lady’s savior, they were treating her with a different attitude.
She understood that those in high society acted cautiously and with vigilance, but it didn’t mean she had to like it.
Of course, she would accept the gratitude she rightfully deserved.
Su Ci didn’t say much and agreed to let them bring the items into the house.
“Miss Su Ci, if you ever have any needs, you can always visit the Fu family, and I can help convey your messages to the old lady,” the Fu family’s housekeeper said with a pleasant demeanor.
Suci casually agreed without taking it too seriously.
After all the gratitude gifts were brought into the house, the Fu family’s housekeeper and his team departed. Before leaving, he couldn’t help but cast an extra glance at the young man standing quietly by Su Ci’s side.
Su Ci began to unpack the gratitude gifts and found that several bags contained clothing, made of soft materials with stylish designs that matched her taste.
She then opened the small gift boxes in other bags, which revealed jewelry items – diamond necklaces, gold bracelets, and some diamond earrings. The total value was estimated to be in the tens of thousands.
Su Ci was a bit disappointed that the Fu family didn’t gift her cash, especially considering her current financial situation. However, the thought that she could sell these jewelry pieces when in need of money brightened her mood.
She approached Lu Zhe and informed him, “Yesterday, I saved an elderly lady, who happens to be wealthy. She came today to express her gratitude.”
Then, she asked Lu Zhe, “Do you think I’m kind-hearted and beautiful?”
A sense of pride showed on the girl’s fair complexion, as her bright black eyes looked at him. Before Lu Zhe could respond, she began to boast, “Beautiful people aren’t as kind as me, and kind people aren’t as beautiful as me. Oh, what an extraordinary treasure I am.”
Watching the extraordinary treasure excitedly opening the gift boxes beside him, a faint smile crossed Lu Zhe’s dark eyes.
……
In the afternoon, Su Ci insisted on going out with Lu Zhe no matter what.
“It’s quite far,” Lu Zhe informed Su Ci.
Su Ci replied affectionately, “It’s alright. We’ll save some money and take the bus instead of a taxi. I haven’t taken public transportation before.”
Luzhe responded coldly, “It’s very sunny outside.”
Su Ci swung the umbrella she held, “Don’t worry about me. I brought an umbrella. Let’s hurry, it’s not good to keep the client waiting.”
Lu Zhe said, “I was ready to leave.”
Su Ci thought about applying sunscreen and finding her umbrella, and she smiled at Lu Zhe, “Luzhe, let’s go.”
The afternoon sun was intense, scorching the ground.
Su Ci followed Lu Zhe to the seventeenth floor of a large building.
Because it was a Saturday, the company’s employees were not working, and there was only a young female employee responsible for coordinating.
She had a gentle appearance and politely served water to Lu Zhe and Su Ci, saying, “Both of those computers over there have issues. Our company’s IT manager is on leave, and we don’t have anyone available, so we had to find someone from outside to come and repair them.”
Lu Zhe stood up and said, “I’ll go take a look.”
Beside him, Su Ci immediately responded, “You go ahead. I’ll patiently wait here for you.”
Lu Zhe glanced at her and proceeded to check the computers.
The young female employee looked at Su Ci with envy and remarked, “You and your boyfriend have a great relationship.”
Su Ci turned her head to look at the employee and said, “He’s not my boyfriend.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” the female employee quickly apologized. She had assumed that the two of them were a couple due to their remarkable appearances, and she felt embarrassed for her assumption.
“It’s alright,” Su Ci said with a slight smile, her red lips curved. “Who knows, maybe in the future.”
The female employee was taken aback for a moment, then she chuckled, and the heaviness in her features softened, making her look even more gentle.
“You look pretty when you smile,” Su Ci rarely complimented people, but the employee’s smile was genuinely pleasant.
The female employee was momentarily surprised, her smile becoming even more pronounced, and a hint of shyness appeared on her face.
It was hard not to feel shy when a girl as exquisite and beautiful as Su Ci praised your smile. “You … you are very good-looking too.”
Su Ci nodded in agreement.
Her gaze settled on the female employee’s wrist, and she couldn’t understand why this young woman would die in twenty minutes.
Fu Gui: [Fu Gui knows, Fu Gui knows, please, master, save her.]
Su Ci replied, “I don’t want to meddle.”
Fu Gui silently retreated.
“Maybe we’ll have to wait for a while. Are you hungry? There are some snacks in the pantry. If you’d like something to eat, I can fetch them for you,” the female employee asked, concerned that Su Ci might be getting bored.
Su Ci glanced at her and said, “Sure.”
The female employee got up to get some snacks, selecting ones that girls would like to eat. “These won’t cause heatiness, and they’re low in calories. You can enjoy them without worry.”
Su Ci smiled as she accepted the snacks handed to her.
She unwrapped a peach-flavored yogurt bar, slowly taking bites while occasionally checking the female employee’s remaining life span. It had now reduced to fifteen minutes.
Every time the female employee met her eyes, she blushed and smiled shyly. Su Ci found it hard to imagine why a woman who spoke so gently and acted so kindly would be dying.
Fu Gui came running again, [Fu Gui knows, master can ask Fu Gui.]
Su Ci, with her mouth full of peach-flavored yogurt, asked, “Go ahead.”
Fu Gui’s small voice was excited, [She’s going to cut her wrist.]
Su Ci squinted her eyes and looked at the female employee once more, “You mean she’s going to cut her wrist here in the company shortly?”
Fu Gui: [Yes, master, please save her.] The golden marshmallow was so delicious, Fu Gui wanted more.
Su Ci raised an eyebrow, and her enticing teardrop mole beneath her eye made her even more alluring. She bit into her yogurt bar, lost in thought.
Ten minutes later, Lu Zhe had successfully repaired both computers. “The computers are working fine now.”
The female employee transferred the repair fees to Luzhe and said, “Thank you for the snacks. They’re delicious. I’ll walk you out.”
“Thank you for the snacks, they were great. You don’t need to trouble yourself; we can leave on our own,” Su Ci stood up and walked over to Lu Zhe.
“Alright, then I won’t see you off.” The female employee smiled gently at Su Ci and turned to check the computers.
Su Ci licked the sweetness off her lips and then swiftly pulled Lu Zhe into a nearby employee storage cabinet.
Lu Zhe’s dark eyes fixed on her.
Su Ci blinked and silently mouthed to Lu Zhe, “Shh!”
Since the woman was going to die in five minutes, it meant she had only a few minutes left before she would cut her wrist.
Fu Gui was excited, [Master, you are going to save her, right?]
Su Ci: “You know how it is, the heart is soft.”
The space behind the storage cabinet was quite small, just enough to accommodate two people.
At this moment, as Su Ci’s body was pressed closely against Lu Zhe’s, her light blue dress brushed against his black pants. Her upper body was snugly against his chest, creating a very ambiguous situation.
No matter how thick-skinned Su Ci was, her fair face still blushed.
She tried to move her foot to create a bit of separation, but as soon as she did, Luzhe in front of her tensed up.
Seeing Lu Zhe lower his gaze, Su Ci immediately reached out to cover his eyes.
Everything turned pitch black.
Lu Zhe heard the girl whispering in his ear in a tone as if she were the wronged party, “Lu Zhe, don’t move.”
