Chapter 14 part 1
Lu Zhe didn’t respond.
The alley was serene, with the setting sun casting long, intertwined shadows of the two on the ground.
Looking at the shadow, Su Ci asked Lu Zhe, “Lu Zhe, am I light?”
She remembered watching him work out when she was in her rabbit form. Although he looked lean, he had a muscular build. Given her slender frame, she must be a breeze for him to carry.
The silent Lu Zhe finally spoke, his tone unreadable, “Not light.”
Those two simple words instantly made Su Ci bristled with anger. If she were still in her rabbit form now, her snow-white fur would surely stand on end, puffing up like a snowball.
Lu Zhe implying she’s not light means he thinks she’s heavy!
Rounded up, it’s equivalent to him thinking she’s fat!
Weight and appearance are sensitive topics that one should never touch upon when it came to girls.
She pressed against Lu Zhe’s back, whispering angrily in his ear, “Where am I heavy? The parts that should be slim are slender, and the parts that should have flesh are just right. I have a perfect figure!”
The biting words, accompanied by her warm breath, tickled Lu Zhe’s earlobe, making him felt a slight itch.
He stared straight ahead, a hint of amusement in his deep eyes, “Mmm.”
Su Ci huffed, and her gaze settled on Lu Zhe’s ear. To her surprise, she found a small mole on his earlobe, which looked unexpectedly cute.
She stretched out her fingertip, lightly touching his earlobe.
Lu Zhe, carrying her, stiffened momentarily.
“Su Ci.” The young man’s voice was cold.
“I’m here.”
Su Ci seemed to have discovered something fascinating, and she chuckled, “Lu Zhe, you have a small mole on your left earlobe. I also have one under the corner of my left eye. But yours isn’t as cute as mine.”
The girl on his back felt soft and warm, her laughter gentle and playful. As she spoke, she reached out to touch his earlobe again.
With a hint of resignation in his usually cold voice, Lu Zhe simply responded, “Mmm.”
Along the way, Lu Zhe walked at a steady pace without slowing down.
Close to the end of the alley, Su Ci hopped down from his back.
Walking by his side, she mused, “I bet Boss Fang will be quite surprised to see me.”
Lu Zhe cast her a glance before pushing the door to the computer shop open.
Inside the store, Xiao Kuaile sat in his small wheelchair, engrossed in his toy, while Boss Fang was busy fixing a computer.
“Brother Zhe is here,” Xiao Kuaile exclaimed, his round eyes lighting up at the sight of Lu Zhe. But when he spotted Su Ci next to him, he dropped his toy in surprise, his little mouth agape. “It’s the pretty sister! Dad, it’s the pretty sister!”
Even after just one meeting, Xiao Kuaile remembered Su Ci.
“Naughty boy, what pretty …” Boss Fang began, lifting his head from behind the computer. Upon seeing Su Ci, his reaction mirrored Xiao Kuaile’s.
Sa … savior.
He hastily dropped the tools in his hand and stood up excitedly, “Xiao Zhe, you helped me find my savior? That’s great.”
Su Ci gently touched Lu Zhe next to her, looking at him with a bright smile, “Told you so.”
Lu Zhe cleverly pieced together the clues quickly. The person who had saved Xiao Kuaile, the savior Boss Fang kept mentioning, was Su Ci.
Her fair skin, long hair, the high school uniform from Yi High School, and the red string on her ankle, identical to that of the rabbit’s—all these description fit Su Ci.
Boss Fang quickly approached Su Ci. He was so excited to shake her hand, but when he saw that both of his hands were covered in dust, he frantically rubbed them on his clothes to clean them.
With Su Ci’s hands looking so pristine, Boss Fang felt hesitant to extend his, fearing he might dirty her hands.
“I’m so glad I finally found you. You saved my son last time, and I haven’t had the chance to properly thank you,” Boss Fang said, his voice filled with gratitude as he looked at Su Ci.
Su Ci replied, “You’ve already thanked me.” She remembered the candy she had received from Xiao Kuaile.
“No amount of thanks is enough for the huge favor you did for us. If you ever need any help in the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out,” Boss Fang assured her.
Su Ci nodded nonchalantly. In her mind, she felt there wasn’t much she’d need from Boss Fang. The one she really needed by her side was Lu Zhe.
Xiao Kuaile wheeled himself over to Su Ci and looked up at her with a gleaming face, “Pretty sister.”
Su Ci looked down, “You remember me?”
Xiao Kuaile nodded vigorously, “Sister is pretty, Kuaile remembers.”
Su Ci was amused and flattered by the child’s innocent compliment. She rewarded him with a big smile, “I’ll treat you to candy next time.”
On the side, Boss Fang patted Lu Zhe’s shoulder, “Lu Zhe, thank you so much this time for helping me find the person who saved my son.” Now that he had found the savior, a burden was lifted from his heart.
Lu Zhe replied, “I only just realized that she’s the one you’ve been talking about.”
Mr. Fang looked at Lu Zhe in surprise, “You’ve known her for a while?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Boss Fang, feeling a sense of destiny, patted Lu Zhe on the shoulder again, “It’s really fateful.” He had employed Lu Zhe, and Lu Zhe’s friend had saved his son.
Seeing Su Ci playing with Xiao Kuaile, Boss Fang pulled Lu Zhe aside and asked in a lowered voice, “Xiao Zhe, what does your friend like to eat? I’ll cook some dishes to treat her well.”
Lu Zhe responded, “I’m not sure.”
Mr. Fang shot him a glance, “You young man, how can you not know? Boys should take the initiative …” His words trailed off abruptly.
Boss Fang originally wanted to hint that Lu Zhe and the young lady looked good together and might develop feelings for each other in the future. However, the thought of Lu Zhe’s illness stopped him from voicing his thoughts.
If Lu Zhe was a normal teenager, he could have had a love story during his youth.
He had researched ALS online before, and knew that it was incurable. The young girl was vibrant, beautiful, and full of life. In contrast, Lu Zhe’s life had a visible end. The terminal illness would sap his vitality, causing him to wither away and eventually die.
The two couldn’t possibly be together.
Boss Fang felt a bitter sadness for Lu Zhe, “It’s okay, I’ll ask the young girl later about her preferences.”
“By the way, there’s a job tomorrow. Will you take it?”
Not only did Boss Fang run a computer shop, but he also took on private work, selling developed products and even offering door-to-door computer repair services. Sometimes Lu Zhe would help out. Considering Lu Zhe’s situation, Boss Fang never took a cut from his earnings.
“En.”
Boss Fang added, “I’ll send you the address later.” Ever since he got to know Lu Zhe, there wasn’t a day when he didn’t feel sorry for him.
Ignoring Lu Zhe’s handsome appearance and excellent academic performance, his computer skills were also top-notch.
At such a young age, he had developed several products, and with Boss Fang’s help, they had been sold at good prices.
If it weren’t for Lu Zhe’s ALS, his future would have been bright.
Lu Zhe replied, “Thank you, Uncle Fang.”
