Chapter 13 part 2
Su Ci looked up, trying to identify the source of the fallen object, but couldn’t pinpoint from which floor it had been dropped.
“I saved the old lady.” Su Ci glared at the bodyguard who had attempted to grab her.
“Thank you, young lady.”
The elderly lady looked at the shattered glass on the ground, shuddering at the thought of what could have happened. Had it not been for this young lady pushing her aside, she might have been killed instantly by the falling glass kettle.
She instructed the bodyguard next to her, “Investigate who dropped the object from above. Call the police and let them handle it as they see fit.”
The bodyguard responded, “Yes, madam.”
The old lady approached Su Ci with a gentle and kind smile. “You saved my life.”
Su Ci blinked, unhesitatingly acknowledging the fact without a hint of modesty. “Yes, I did.”
Subsequently, Su Ci was invited to the old lady’s home.
Looking at the opulent mansion and its surroundings, it was understandable why the elderly lady needed bodyguards whenever she went out.
After going upstairs to change into a fresh set of clothes, the old lady descended, still adorned in gold and jewelry. She wore several necklaces made of jadeite beads, along with a white jade pendant. Her wrists sparkled with gold bracelets, and her fingers sported a jadeite ring from an old mine.
She exuded an air of affluence.
Su Ci sat gracefully on the burgundy-colored sofa, sipping tea prepared by the housemaid, appearing at ease without any hint of nervousness.
The elderly lady nodded appreciatively. Apart from Su Ci being her life savior, the old lady was fond of her looks. She had met many young ladies of wealthy families, but none matched Su Ci in terms of beauty. Even though Suci had a captivating teardrop mole under her eye, her eyes radiated purity, suggesting impeccable character.
“I really owe you for earlier,” the old lady said with a sigh. “I never imagined I’d have such a close brush with death so unexpectedly.”
Su Ci nodded in agreement.
Looking at the life value on the old lady’s wrist, it now displayed two yellow blocks and three red ones, with a label reading: Twenty-three years.
Su Ci sincerely told the old lady, “After a misfortune comes good luck.”
Hearing Su Ci’s pleasant voice and remembering how she had saved her, the old lady’s wrinkled face broke into a warm smile, “You’re right.”
At that moment, a tall and lean figure briskly walked in from the outside, “Grandma, are you okay? Were you hurt?”
“I’m fine. Aren’t you in school? Why did you come back all of a sudden?” The old lady asked her grandson.
“The butler said you had an accident, and I was worried.” Fu Baili’s lips tightened, and there was genuine concern on his handsome face.
Su Ci took a leisurely sip of her tea. So, the old lady is Fu Baili’s grandmother?
“I’m alright, thanks to this young lady here. She saved me. We should thank her properly.” The old lady introduced with a smile, “Her name is Su Ci.”
“This is my grandson. His name is Fu Baili.”
Though Fu Baili might have an arrogant demeanor, he knew where to draw the line. He thanked Su Ci, “Thank you for your timely help in saving my grandmother.”
‘Timely help’?
Why did Fu Baili make it sound like it was a trivial matter?
Fu Baili pulled out a card, saying, “There’s 20,000 yuan in this card as a token of our appreciation.”
Su Ci was taken aback.
Wait, she remembered that the Fu family in the book was a wealthy family. Was Fu Baili trying to dismiss her with just 20,000 yuan?
Seeing Su Ci staring blankly at him, Fu Baili instinctively frowned. He had encountered too many girls who were infatuated with him, all except for Zhao Youyou.
“Don’t you want it?” Fu Baili asked Su Ci.
Su Ci grabbed the card immediately, “I want it!”
She had exerted effort; why wouldn’t she want it?
Although she understood that wealthy families were most concerned about owing favors and Fu Baili wanted to repay her life-saving favor with money, as the male lead, shouldn’t Fu Baili be extravagant and lavish with his spending?
20,000 yuan didn’t suit his status at all!
Su Ci genuinely felt that Fu Baili, the wealthy young master, was too stingy.
“I’ll have the driver take you home,” Fu Baili sent her out.
“Oh,” Su Ci responded.
Su Ci didn’t have a good impression of Fu Baili at all. Holding the card, she said goodbye to the old lady and left.
Su Ci had the driver drop her off at the entrance of Yi High School. Non-students weren’t allowed inside the school, so she found a shaded spot and waited for Lu Zhe to finish his classes.
It was only now that she had the time to question Fu Gui, “How did you know how Mrs. Fu would die?”
After consuming another golden marshmallow, Fu Gui replied with satisfaction: [After you saved someone last time, I received a golden marshmallow. Once I consumed it, I could predict how someone would die.]
Surprised, Su Ci asked, “Then why were you constantly urging me to save her earlier?”
Fu Gui: [Every time you save someone, I get another golden marshmallow.]
With a cold laugh, Su Ci remarked, “So, you benefit while I do all the hard work?”
Shivering, Fu Gui said, [Master is the kindest person in the world.]
Su Ci: “I only admit I’m the most beautiful woman. I’m not kind-hearted at all, and I’m not a savior. Don’t expect me to save people just for you.”
Fu Gui: [Eating the golden marshmallow allows me to level up. Once I level up, Master will receive a big surprise.]
Su Ci: “Oh, I’m not interested.”
Su Ci didn’t bother asking about the surprise and told Fu Gui to shut up.
She didn’t know how long she had been waiting, but her face was flushed from the heat, her pale skin tinged with soft pink color. She looked lovely.
Many students passing by couldn’t help but take a second glance at her, and some of the boys blushed.
Su Ci didn’t give anyone else a glance. When she saw the tall figure slowly coming out from inside, her pair of dark eyes finally lit up.
“Lu Zhe.”
As soon as Lu Zhe stepped out of the school gate, she quickly grabbed the hem of his shirt.
Meeting Lu Zhe’s surprised gaze, she explained, “You didn’t give me the keys, so I couldn’t go home.”
Lu Zhe was silent, realizing he had forgotten.
Su Ci told him, “I’ve been standing at the school entrance for a long time.”
Lu Zhe had an apologetic look in his eyes.
Suzhen whispered to him, “My legs have gone weak from standing so long; I can’t walk anymore.”
“I’m sorry,” Lu Zhe apologized, realizing that he had indeed forgotten to give her the keys.
A mischievous glint flashed in Su Ci’s clear eyes, “It’s okay, just give me the spare key when we get home.”
Giving her the key also meant he wouldn’t ask her to leave.
“Alright,” Lu Zhe agreed.
Su Ci suddenly smiled, her eyes shimmering with the scattered light of the setting sun. Her tone was soft, somewhat coquettish, “Lu Zhe, my legs are weak. When we reach a less crowded place, can you carry me on your back?”
She decided not to take a cab, in order to save money for the seemingly financially strapped Lu Zhe.
Lu Zhe didn’t respond. Su Ci casually followed behind him, seemingly indifferent to the astonished gazes around them.
Where did such a beautiful girl come from? Could she possibly be Lu Zhe’s girlfriend?
Su Ci declined the idea of returning to the place alone, where there was nothing. She thought it might be better to go to the computer store with Lu Zhe.
The quickest way from the school to the computer store was through the small alleys, and Lu Zhe was accustomed to taking that route.
As Su Ci followed him, she noticed that Lu Zhe limped slightly with his left leg. Was his condition worsening?
She pondered whether her kisses, which added to his lifespan, could also cure his ailment.
Just as she considered asking her little companion, Fugui, the young man ahead of her suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Lu Zhe leaned forward slightly, bending his knee. “Get on,” he said.
Huh?
Su Ci’s initial comment about her legs feeling weak was just a playful tease. She never expected him to actually offer to carry her.
Her eyes blinked in surprise, her lips curling into a smile.
She indeed climbed onto his back, her arms wrapping around his neck. Leaning her head close to his ear, she whispered, “Lu Zhe, why are you so kind?”
